Getting Her Share of the Dimsum

Depending on their image, celebrities are expected to behave in a certain way, which would serve as model behavior for fans who idolize them. For instance, an actress who often portrays roles of being bullied is expected to be a nice and kind person in real life. By contrast, the villain is often thought of as someone who is mean in reality. However, stereotypes are not always true, and most often, the impression celebrities make on media is not necessarily true for their behavior off cam.

When Seasoned Actress (SA) entered a restaurant in a posh hotel, all eyes were upon her. After all, despite the years, SA has maintained her youthful glow, which has given hope for young girls who wish to follow her footsteps to achieving her status. Although the restaurant was full and diners were expected to mind their own dishes, still, others could not help but glance at SA every so often. People are curious to find out if SA gorges out like ordinary mortals or if she remains prim and proper with every plate that she brings to her table.

Having been used to being observed, SA went around the restaurant like the typical diner. Some dishes were favored over others and naturally, SA picked the ones she liked. SA chose her food, sat at her table, and ate her food. As she seemingly behaved like everyone in a posh environment, everything seemed normal and other diners no longer minded that SA was a celebrity. Perhaps thinking that no one would bother to look her way, she did not realize someone saw her do the unthinkable. SA slipped a plate of dimsum in her bag. Then, she proceeded as though nothing happened. The act of SA was a bit shocking, especially because SA is a known celebrity and is considered to come from the upper echelons of society.

SA’s alleged behavior was so bold and risky for someone in her status. Imagine the embarrassing headlines if she had been caught with dimsum in her bag. The awkwardness would fall between hilarity and pity. Surely, it was not out of hunger that SA did that. Perhaps, she loved the dimsum that she only wanted to have some more when she gets home. Nonetheless, her action lacked class, which is the image she has built for so her many years in the limelight.

A common practice in the entertainment industry is to allow talents to perform in various locations all over the country. Sometimes, management is contacted to provide certain celebrities to grace a special event in a provincial town, or in some instances, the management plans out of town shows as a way to promote new talents. In either case, celebrities are expected to behave nicely and be friendly with the town sponsors.

Apparently, Network Starlet (NS) has no framework of good graces when it comes to dealing with people during out of town shows. When NS had a show somewhere north of the country, organizers were shocked at the irritable attitude of the said performer. NS refused to dine with the locals and insisted on room service. Thus, she missed her chance to interact with the people and gain their favor.

Then, during the program, NS was hesitant to grace photo opportunities at the backstage. However, she agreed only when she was informed that the people who wanted a photo with her were the VIPs of the province and some close friends of the political leaders of the area. Had she missed out on that one chance, she would definitely have earned the ire of the powerful and lose any future opportunity to perform in such an influential province.

The photo opportunity was obviously done because it was sort of forced on her. Her sincerity and friendliness were doubted because the door of her dressing room was locked throughout. This locking of her door prevented anyone else from asking for a photograph with her. Even her road manager allegedly also had this attitude as indicated by the raising of voice. Of course, the VIPs who were nearby witnessed such arrogance and were turned off by the attitude of NS.

Ironically, what irritated the witnesses was that NS is still building her name in the business. Although she started young, her following in her career as an adult has yet to really be influential. Compared to other celebrities in her station who have loyal and rabid followers as well as box-office projects, NS only has a handful. She does not even have a permanent love team partner. Besides, her career is no longer handled by the network, as she has moved to another family. However, her claim to fame is her pride in having reached so many Internet viewers on videos she uploads in her social media account. These videos indicate her seemingly special skills, which can eventually wear off as the novelty has faded. .

Perhaps, NS should be reminded of basic courtesy when it comes to dealing with people out of town, as these people could extend their influence to making her famous or infamous depending on her attitude. Besides, for celebrities who have failed in their bid for stardom, out of town shows are their fallback for financial concerns.
