Ditching the Event for Lack of Compensation

When one is recognized and brings honor to the whole nation, certain expectations are bestowed on the personality. Together with the fame that winning brings, the public expects warmth from the winner. For example, after winning an international award or an overseas contest, the winner becomes an instant celebrity, gains more than the expected number of followers, and opens the future to various opportunities. A wave, a smile, a greeting are all enough to pacify fans and maintain loyalty. However, when a winner does not wave, smile, or greet the audience, he/she will be in trouble, and fans will be turned off.

After the fete is over, the said celebrity could retire from the limelight or continue a career. Yet, despite the years, the public will always remember the winning moment and give the corresponding respect or accolade. Over the years, Iconic Personality (IP) has set several records that revolved around her being a celebrity. First, she transcended the wall that separated the society’s elite and that of the looked down upon showbiz industry. Second, she successfully portrayed some of the most memorable roles in the best movies in the past decades. Finally, she has defied time and maintained her youthful looks.

During an event, the audience immediately noticed the absence of IP, which was disturbing. If no one should be absent, it would have to be IP. While IP might not have been the major star of the night, her presence would have added flare and prestige to the occasion. However, her camp said that IP has a previous commitment abroad that she opted to honor rather than be part of history.

By contrast, according to circulating stories, IP initially committed to gracing the said event. However, something made her decide not to go. The decision not to participate could have probably stemmed from her learning in the so many years she has spent in the business. One of these lessons is that every appearance should be well remunerated. Any form of payment is recognition of the talent. In other words, appearing for free is not a good idea. Thus, when IP allegedly found that her presence at the said event would not be majorly compensated financially and that she would have to shoulder her outfit, she decided not to show up.

When this reasoning was realized, several were definitely disappointed. After all, the said event was not really to generate money, but rather, it was a venue for all winners cutting across generations to come over. Besides, the audience would appreciate seeing all winners on one stage on one night. However, IP did not think of making history that night and just stayed away.

Lacking A Much Needed Sensitivity

Words can be very powerful and influence the course of life. For example, during reality talent shows, the words of the judges can make or break the future of the contestant. Judges are usually recognized authorities from the industry and are expected to give their opinion on the performance of contestants. To be asked to join the panel of judges is a privilege and recognition of one’s capability in knowing if an ordinary person has potential to make it. Besides, most judges in talent shows started as nobodies and got their breaks because they had the elements of a star.

Given that the judging is done live and spontaneous, judges are expected to be lively, helpful, and constructive in their comments. Calling a spade a spade should be done with tact. After all, the way judges speak would reflect of their image and affect the feelings of the contestants. Nonetheless, everyone has to be open and game to the rudiments of the program. While things started smoothly in a talent show, the staff noticed that Judge One (JO) was sometimes giving unrelated and irrelevant comments lately. JO would sometimes give the impression that she was not attuned.

What then could explain this behavior of JO? Words did. JO is allegedly still hurting from what seemed to be an innocent discourse, but turned out to be a painful exchange of thoughts. As JO is not getting younger, she broached the idea of settling down and having kids with her Beleaguered Partner (BP). JO said that her family was getting older as well and they would love to see her married and having kids. These ideas are normal and expected for couples who have been together for years. Besides, JO and BP have gone through so much together and settling down would be one of the most anticipated milestones for the couple. Both their sides are accepting of each other and are rooting for them.

Unfortunately, JO heard the most unexpected response from BP. When JO hinted the same concern, BP retorted with words that touched a nerve. He allegedly questioned the idea of why do they have to be pressured to settle down and have kids while the most significant relation (SR) of JO was still alive. This response caught JO off-guard as she did not expect those words from a person whom she loves. Given her family situation, SR is her inspiration and her driving force for her to pursue her career. The least was for BP to understand where she was coming from.

While JO is trying to be optimistic and professional, the effect sometimes is seen in her spontaneous comments in the said show. Adding to the awkwardness is that JO and BP could only avoid each other for some time. Eventually, JO and BP will bump into each other and decide if they will truly let go of each other or give their fans the happy ending that is wished for them.
