More often than not, big companies usually invite celebrity singers to perform at their corporate events for added entertainment and ooomph. Although it doesn’t come cheap, they try to raise funds for the purpose.

A Call Center company CC decided to celebrate its Christmas party and hired the services of a Singer in Bloom SB. CC employees agreed to raise funds and allot a big budget for the talent fee of SB whom they wanted to see and hear perform live. But they never thought that they would be in for a shock.

On the day of the party, SB came late, as in 2 hours late! On top of that, she looked like she was not in the mood. At one instance, SB was talking on the phone with raised voice. People who heard her presumed she was talking to her boyfriend. (Read: rumored boyfriend, Handsome Singer HS) on the other line. SB’s demeanor naturally stressed the people at CC.

Unlike other professional performers, SB did not practice their mantra: The show must go on. True, she performed, but only did for the sake of it. SB was nowhere near performance level. To say that she under-delivered was a misnomer, the CC people felt they were had – and no one can blame them.

SB performance suffered big time – 1st song, she forgot her lyrics, 2nd song, she failed to hit the notes, 3rd song, her timing was so off and not synchronized. All these because she had a bad day and was not in the mood.

Some employees regretted doing away with some perks and raising funds just so they could pay her huge talent fee. They all chorused, “ Sayang! ” Oh well. The company swore to never hire SB again.

As a side note, those who know SB and HS well naughtily wished them good luck in their relationship and hoped that there will be less bad days to come. One of them quipped, “ In the first place, what can you expect in such a relationship? Can they not be please be true to themselves? “

Acting Not Worth Risking

Finally, after lingering in the shadows of his reel partner (RP), suave talent (ST) was given his biggest break in a teleserye. The project was going to pit him against Intense Actor (IA), who recently managed to resurrect a dying career via an unexpected hit drama series. Originally, the role of ST was meant for Charming Performer (CP). However, CP let the role slip as he was still dithering on his long-term relationship with the network.

The announcement of ST as the replacement of CP was met with criticism. Instead of encouraging ST, people immediately pointed out that IA was going to swallow him in their scenes together. Compared to IA, ST is no match for the energy IA gives to every inch of his role. Nonetheless, the production had faith and ST was signed up.

After all the defenses for signing up ST for the role, he was pulled out of the series. Immediately, a story was floated that he will be doing a light series with RP, and that CP will soon be reclaiming the role that was meant for him. Of course, the fans preferred seeing RP and ST together, as their image as a couple generates a positive response from the public and can result in good box office returns. However, as CP still has to renew his contract, nothing is definite if indeed he will take on the role that was meant for him.

Now, why would the network, which has proven several times that its directors can transform performers turn into actors, suddenly pull out ST? Sources have it that the reason why ST was removed from the soap was plain and simple: his acting skills were way below expectations. Allegedly, one scene took 25 takes, and the production was only on its second day. Perhaps rather than risk more criticisms and higher production costs, ST was deemed better off for non-dramatic roles.
