The Choosy Actress
Sometime ago, a fan (AF) approached a highly-regarded network talent (RN) and asked if they could have a photo together. RN momentarily gave AF a blank look and walked away. It was as if RN did not hear the request of the fan. AF decided not to ask RN again and dismissed it as RN might just be having “one of those days.” Later AF told her co-worker (CW) about the incident. CW could not believe what she heard and said that when she met RN, the actress was nice and accommodating.
RN, the same actress, had two different reactions to two different fans. AF then realized that RN had discriminated her. Unlike AF, CW has a certain classy air and can be stereotyped as someone who lives in exclusive gated villages down south. Thus, RN was kind to her. Apparently, RN chooses to show her amiable side to people whom she thinks are of the same level.
This story is not really surprising as RN, since she entered showbiz, has dichotomized the audience. During the start of her career, she rubbed a senior showbiz insider (SS) the wrong way, which was quite risky as SS is well-respected in his field and can be quite influential in someone’s career if he decides to be. RN had no choice but to apologize for her frankness and make amends to SS. In another incident, RN was said to have refused a role, as it would mean playing second lead to a mature actress, even if the said role would get as much exposure in the series.
While RN is a competent actress, her attitude behind the camera always crops up when it comes to the low box office results of her movies. Perhaps, RN can pick up a thing or two from her beloved relatives when it comes to dealing with fans. RN has been given good television and movie projects, but her name is not a guarantee of ratings or ticket sales. RN would need more than talent and family lineage if she wants to stay on top in the business.
Some people have a difficult time facing truth and reality. They prefer to live in a make-believe world, pretending that certain things aren't happening. – Joyce Meyer

What US Newspaper Movie Critics Have to Say about Anne Curtis and Blood Ransom

“Ms. Curtis, Filipino-Australian actress making her American film debut, suffers nobly, with full lips and heavy eyelashes, parading in leather and occasionally acquiring fangs, a veiny complexion and flaring red eyes. She is not without charisma, but this is not her proper vehicle. It would be interesting to see her in a role of more down-to-earth dimensions.” - NY Times

“Filipino American writer-director Francis dela Torre does sort of the opposite with "Blood Ransom," creating something passably American but seeming to aim primarily at a Filipino audience. More than anything, the film plays like a vanity project for Filipino entertainer Anne Curtis, making her American movie debut.” - LA Times

“while the portentous glances and oblique dialogue of the undead evoke stylish '70s Euro-vampires — as do the trippy cuts and fade-outs — Oliver's manhunt feels more like a low-budget '80s potboiler. Fewer cops and more full-tilt vampire batshittery might not have resulted in a more coherent movie, necessarily, but almost certainly would've made for a more captivating one” - The Village Voice
