Her Overbearing Kin

The future of a celebrity often hinges on the people who are handling his/her career. Often, when a family member decides to manage the affairs of a celebrity, the results can be either a boom or a doom. Specifically, several mothers have made an impact on the career of their child-celebrity. Some mothers have successfully steered the careers and lovelife of their celebrity children, and they got their ways. By contrast, some children celebrities have decided to go against their mothers, either for the sake of their careers or for the sake of their lovelife at the risk of getting negative reactions from the public.

Recently, people have noticed that the mother (TM) of a rising teenage actress (RA) is starting to throw her weight around. During one of the out of town appearances of RA up north, people noticed that TM was extra moody, which made people feel that TM was feeling the power of being the mother of one of the hottest stars these days. To show how powerful she thinks she is, she called the city mayor and requested for the car coding to be lifted for them. Upon calling, TM said, “Mama ito ni -----, paki-lift ho ang coding para diretso na po kami sa hotel.” While RA is projecting a very positive image, TM is showing otherwise.

Moreover, TM is indicating signs of overprotecting RA. TM refused to have RA eat at a buffet, and insisted that the buffet will only make RA fat. While RA seems to know how to cope and to play along with the demands of showbiz, TM is allegedly on the contradicting path. Some could not help but comment that TM seems to want fame that has been accorded to the notorious parent (NP) of love struck famous singer actress.

As time passes, RA is proving to be the next important talent of her network, and this role entails much pressure, which includes pleasing fans by being chummy with a hot teen actor. Will TM take the cue from NP by overprotecting her daughter, including guarding her from teen actor, and taking advantage of her daughter's popularity?

Non-Payment

Seasoned Artist SA is probably at his wits trying to figure out how to settle his mounting financial obligations. Heard from the grapevine that SA who has been without projects for a long time now reportedly looks beleaguered as his financial troubles have become too stressful for him.

Observers believe that perhaps this explains why SA looked bloated in his recent television appearance. Notably, most artists are only motivated to lose weight if there’s a project forthcoming to inspire them. But when there’s none to look forward to and with a lot of time on their hands, keeping fit often takes a backseat.

Ditto, different people deal with stress differently. SA seems to find ally and comfort in food - no matter how temporary, and at the cost of his career.

Unlike his Active Colleague AC, who is deluged with projects, SA is wanting for so long. What a waste for someone who is so talented - his fans can only wish his career will pick up soon.

Perhaps, SA should take a moment and keep stock of what is truly relevant, his health issues notwithstanding. Reportedly, his financial woes have reached depressing proportions that he can’t even pay his gas credit which has ballooned quite alarmingly allegedly after a year of non-payment.

More recently, the credit card company had sent SA several payment reminders, but to no avail. Unless something is done immediately, SA might be in deep trouble. Lest he forgets, a Close Kin CK is in the same deep s**t. He’d better take stock.

Methinks that more than than anything, it’s the person’s credit reputation that should be upheld – bar none.

Just Brush Off the Fans

The network of Oblivious Talent (OT) enjoys much popularity because of its wide international reach. To keep this advantage and to show its appreciation to Filipinos abroad, the network schedules its stars for performances in various cities all over the world. OT was fortunate to be included in such a show despite the negative news hounding her career.

As always, some Filipinos wanted to have their photos taken with the performers of the show, which was held somewhere in the West. Newly regarded box office loveteam took time to mingle with the people. Both the singer-actor and young actress hugged the people who met with them. Both did not mind the sweat of the fans as they exchanged hugs and pleasantries. The loveteam said that they did not mind the sweaty fans, as everyone was tired anyway.

Meanwhile, OT was with Dancer Actor (DA) and security people. Some fans wanted to have a photo with OT and DA. DA stopped for photos, whereas OT did not give in to the request and walked away with her bodyguards. The fans were stunned as OT snubbed them, and some wondered if the stories about her lack of reverence and respect were true.

Some of them could not help but compare the rude action of OT to humility of the loveteam, who are no doubt in a higher level of achievement in terms of box office, talent, and endearment. OT, who needs all the help to propel her career, did not bother to take advantage of the moment to be closer to fans. Instead, she added to the negative perception people have of her.

Coming from a tumultuous family of showbiz personalities, OT should at least be reminded that a network talent should behave accordingly when facing fans. Moreover, OT should be taught that fans from abroad comprise a huge influence in the popularity of her network, and these fans use their hard-earned money just to watch a show. In addition, during the start of the career of her family members, the importance they gave to their fans was one of the reasons of their staying power.
