Some Badly Bruised Feeling
More advertisers is always good news, they are the soul of tv programs. Per research, despite the advent of digital media,TV is still the ‘place to be’ for advertisers looking to reach big audiences.
Locally, television networks work their butts off thinking of ways to increase audience traffic to their programs. It has become a practice, a culture in most tv production to devise ways and means - fail or foul – to generate much-needed ratings.
A TV Program TP is often accused to milk everything it can to bring about viewership – often at the expense of its Talents/Cast TC, who become their unwitting victims. Yet, there are reports, too, that other TC’s are willing to bite the bait as well – all in the name of stardom.
Many avid viewers of TP believed that one of its TC, TC1 became the “sacrificial lamb” so that TP would rate and be talked about. Some insiders claimed that prior to TC1’s episode, TP was hardly hitting the needed figures.
Reportedly, TC1 was pressured into doing what he did. Even before that episode, insiders revealed that it was a production head’s idea to make TC1 repeatedly go to a private area for intimate conversations with the TP Master TM. That way, TC1 would be more comfortable towards TM, making it easier for him to talk more and expose his private details for everything its worth – and TM succeeded!
The impact of TC1’s episode was so great, making the people behind TP very happy. Reportedly, a Family Member FM of TC1 was so upset and accused TP for making their family look bad in the eyes of the public. FM added that TC1 shouldn’t have been pressured to do what he did for TP’s selfish reason (ratings). Obviously, TC1 was used for the purpose – at the expense of their family’s reputation.
FM cried foul many times, expressing her disgust on social media. She believed that her Other Relative OR on TP was so affected and that she wanted to pull him out of the show. FM strongly believed that her family need not be used as pawns and sacrificial lambs to attain TP’s goals.
However, there were talks going around that the controversial episode was premeditated - that TC1 already agreed to the script all along before the show was aired, knowing fully that he stood to benefit from it - an advantage he would have over some of his more popular peers in TP.
But on a lighter note, a significant number of TP’s followers believed that TC1’s expose added to his appeal and had endeared him more to the community. Agree or disagree?

TV Host Won't Pay P78 Fare; Mauls Taxi Driver

Cabbie Edward Villanueva, 49, of World Taxi, said Daniel Marsh, one of the hosts of “Juan Direction,” a weekly documentary-style reality show, mauled him and damaged his cab when he insisted that the host pay the P78.50 fare reflected in the taximeter.
VERA Files tried to get Marsh side by text and call, but he did not reply.
Villanueva said Marsh got into his cab a little past 5 a.m. outside the Prive Luxury Club at The Fort in Taguig and directed him to go to the Tivoli Garden Residences in Mandaluyong.
On their way to Tivoli, the driver said Marsh, who was tipsy, was complaining that he lost his wallet at the club.
“I lost my wallet, my cash, my ATM, everything,” Villanueva quoted the Irish-Filipino TV host as saying.
Headlines ( Article MRec ), pagematch: 1, sectionmatch: 1
Upon arriving at Tivoli, Marsh just stepped out of the cab and declared “I’m free,” the driver said.
The driver said he called out, “No, Sir.”
Marsh, the driver said, insisted, “I’m free. I’m not joking.”
The driver said Marsh kicked his cab when he insisted on being paid.
Villanueva said he got out of the car and Marsh mauled him. “He hurt me with a head butt,” he said.
The driver said before Marsh went up, he threw him a P100 bill at him.
An eyewitness, who asked not to be named, related what she saw: “A taxi stopped in front of Heliconia Tower. I heard loud bangings and saw a foreign-looking young man, cursing, kicking, banging the taxi he alighted from. When the driver stepped out of the car, he punched him, cursed, shouting invectives, ‘You’re trying to rip me off. Who are you? You're nothing, you don't know me, don't fuck with me!’”
The eyewitness further said: “(The) poor driver was beaten and his taxi's window was broken. I told the security guards to call the police. The foreign-looking guy happens to be a resident of Heliconia 806, and a member of Juan Direction, according to the guard. He went up to his unit, with the poor driver left below. After 10 minutes or more the barangay police arrived, but the Tivoli guards cannot make its tenant go down and face the authorities.”
“All those things happened for at least 10 to 15 minutes, with school children picked up by their service, witnessed and heard the violence and the cursing. Tivoli guards cannot control its tenant. In fact, one guard said, this young man is so abusive that he kicks on the elevator, or punches the wall, whenever he is drunk, but ‘mabait’ naman daw pag di nakainom (he’s ‘nice’ when he’s sober).”
Villanueva said he has reported the incident to Barangay Hulo in Mandaluyong. He has gone to a barangay clinic and the health workers there advised him to subject his injured nose to an X-ray procedure.
He said Marsh also has not talked with him. As of press time, Villanueva was at TV5 trying to seek help from TV executives.

Wishful Thinking
Sometime ago, Braggart Personality (BP) celebrated what he thought was the confirmation of his return to a struggling network (SN). Allegedly, the production staff and the talents were all welcomed for the comeback. Auditions for new dancers were held, but no talent tried out for a hosting stint. Some of the loyal friends of BP fed press releases that included the cost of the contract, which amounted to billions spread in several years.
A month after the party, SN made its final decision. The network was not amenable to the conditions set by BP. In addition, SN stressed that its image was already being shifted to focus on the action-packed genre. Therefore, if BP wanted to air on SN, he had to buy his slot or become a block-timer, which was similar to the arrangement of a well-loved noontime show with another network (AN). The cost for a one-day weekend slot amounted to a hefty eight-digit figure, which BP found atrocious.
Instead of negotiating, BP exuded arrogance, and bragged that AN was going to get his services. BP said that his strong connections with a Veteran Showbiz Reporter (VS), who appears once a week in a showbiz program of AN, can pave the way for his appearance on AN. However, AN has remained silent on this claim and VS has yet to issue a comment that BP has dragged her name in his attempts for a comeback.
At the rate the circumstances are going, BP might have to rethink his strategy for his comeback. A bit of sincere humility on his part will always help, as his followers are still optimistic that BP will resurrect his show.
To admit you want to have a comeback means you have to admit you weren't what you were supposed to be. You dropped below your own standard. - Marilyn Manson

Raymart Santiago Reveals 'Truth' Behind Claudine Barretto's Bruises

Source: www.abs-cbnnews.com
In an e-mail to ABS-CBNnews.com on Tuesday, Santiago's legal counsel, Atty. Ruth Castelo, shared five photos of Barretto wearing a headgear with bandages on her cheeks. The photos, courtesy of Santiago, were taken during Holy Week of 2010, according to Castelo.
An accompanying statement read: "Here is a truthful version of the recent Twitter post of a make-up tutorial to conceal bruises, perhaps even wounds and scars, with the allusion of the subject having been battered. The wounds and scars are definitely real, but how they were sustained is a different story altogether."

The captions of the photos read, unedited: "Battered wife?!? Seriously...?!? …Amidst these happy faces…?!?! ...Who would believe such a lie?? …About one happy battered wife…???"
Post-surgery?
The last photo, a close-up of Barretto's facial bruises covered with bandages, was captioned: "Before applying make-up, first make sure that the wounds from the post-surgical procedure have healed so the bandage can be safely removed."

Topacio's tweets were in response to a post on a gossip blog where photos of Barretto early this year were compared to a more recent one where she bared more scars allegedly from being a battered wife.
In a series of posts, Topacio said: "We are not making this up. The scars have been there all along. In conclusion, no woman would deliberately make herself ugly. Who inflicted them? I leave it to you guys. To all those who say maliciously that the wounds are a fabrication, may you suffer what Claudine has suffered."
Battered wife?
Last week, Barretto had a photo shoot which showed several wounds on her thighs, among them burns supposedly from cigarette butts. Calling herself a "battered wife," the actress said the pictorial was to help others in a similar situation to speak up.
Dr. Acel Chicano, Barretto's attending wound care specialist, told reporters that the marks on the actress' thighs are hyperpigmented, meaning the wounds were not inflicted recently.
"Matagal nang nangyari iyon. Hindi iyon bago pa lang," she said.
Although Barretto did not identify who inflicted the wounds, she said the details are included in a complaint she had filed in connection with the Anti-Violence against Women and Their Children Act of 2004.
Barretto earlier accused Santiago of "physical, sexual, psychological and economic" abuse, supposedly dating back to 2002. These are detailed in her complaint against the actor for his alleged violation of the said law.
Santiago also alleged that he was a victim of domestic violence. In his complaint, the actor accused his wife of being mentally ill and having a history of drug abuse, claims backed by the actress' estranged siblings Gretchen, Marjorie, and JJ.
Court battle anew
Both Barretto and Santiago have repeatedly mentioned the welfare of their children -- 7-year-old Santino and 10-year-old Sabina -- in explaining why they took the spat to court, and why they are seeking sole custody of the kids.
Last July 14, however, Barretto exclusively told ABS-CBN News that she was planning to pull out from the agreement.
Barretto mentioned three reasons why she arrived at the decision, and why she is planning to sue her husband for "economical abuse" -- Castelo's recent statements about the ongoing legal battle, Santiago's supposed absence from their children's affairs, and his alleged unwillingness to fulfill his financial obligations.
PLDT Statement on #TheLast HomeStand Basketball Event
Exhibition Game Between Gilas Pilipinas and NBA Stars Cancelled

Gilas coach Chot Reyes made the announcement at SMART-Araneta Coliseum, saying that fans in attendance will be treated to a scrimmage featuring the national team instead.
No reason was given for the last-minute cancellation.
Meanwhile, officials of PLDT, which bankrolled the event, said that the company is ready to provide refunds to fans who are unhappy over the development.
The cancellation comes on the heels of a no-show from Blake Griffin and Paul George, who were at the center of promotions for the event.
NBA players James Harden, DeMar DeRozan, Brandon Jennings, Kyle Lowry, Damian Lillard, Terrence Ross, Kawhi Leonard, Tyson Chandler, Matt Barnes, Ed Davis, and Nick Johnson were supposed to take the court against Gilas in the event.
