Affluence Gone?

Stars know that money-wise, showbiz is far from stable. Which is why they take every opportunity to strike while the sun shines, so to speak. Thus, more and more stars are becoming financially savvy to prepare and secure themselves and their family's future for any eventuality.

A showbiz family was once at the apex of stardom with majority of its Members ME in the league of top celebrities, the crème de la crème. A Family Member FM took the task of handling ME. In and out of showbiz, FM was both liked and hated. The powerful FM made sure ME get good projects.

Along with power, fame and money can bring out the worst in some people. FM personified them. She was generous yet shrewd. She was adept at the game and knew how to play expertly, including which issues will spark publicity. She handled ME well and money was the least of her problem.

That was just few years ago.

Today, things have drastically changed. In a twist of fate, ME are not that in-demand anymore. FM is not that visible in showbiz circles like she used to. Her unsuccessful ventures/projects had put her in such dire financial pressure. Things changed, but not FM's character and the issues she often got entangled with.

FM allegedly did not pay the dressmaker whom she contracted to make the uniforms for her household staff (maids, drivers). The agreed amount was Php20,000 to which FM paid thru check. The poor DM fumed when the check bounced when she presented it to the bank.

She called FM right away and demanded payment. FM was feisty and tried to justify herself saying that the uniforms she made were all of bad quality and her staff could not even wear them.

DM was outraged and felt that FM was up to something. She knew that FM's alibi was just a ploy so that she would not be pressured to pay up. How can her creations be of bad quality when it has been her business for years? DM's suspicion was confirmed when she saw FM's maids wearing the very uniform she was complaining about.

DM is now in a quandary - to this day FM has not paid her. Php20,000 is big money for DM that she can not afford to lose just like that. Never did she imagine that a customer like FM whom she thought was good and reliable would give her this big trouble

Wonder why ME can not salvage FM's reputation and help her pay up? You know, what is Php20,000 if all of them would give their share?

Destined to Crash

The much-talked about love affair between Ladies' Man LM and Sexy Girl SG had sent tonques wagging predicting that it is doomed from day one. But LM and SG were sure as hell that theirs was something unique and special, and were quite proud of it.

Well, cynics sure know where they were coming from - both LM and SG's personal love history leaves much to be desired.

But LM and SG were determined to prove their detractors wrong – they felt they were destined for each other. But some friends of theirs expressed concern that it must be really wrong – judging from the circumstances they got entangled in in the past. Yet, some chose to give the couple the benefit of the doubt.

To be fair, LM and SG did walk the talk at the start - their relationship began as kind of unique, special and sweet, each one hoping it would be for keeps. But for one to achieve such means each partner must commit to work at it seriously.

But no one knows for sure. And so it came to pass. The whirlwind affair is now gone, kaput, nada – never to resurrect again.

What could have triggered the split? Have they finally realized that it was not worth taking the risk after all? Didn't it seem like yesterday when both proclaimed they would make it work?

Heard from the grapevine that LM caught SG's gym instructor/trainer in her house – not just once, but twice. The first time was patched up - SG explained, LM forgave. But the second time was entirely different. LM saw the same guy coming out of SG's bedroom.

Confrontation ensued. Unable to restrain himself, LM flared up – curses thrown, angry words.

Said she, " Bakit ikaw? Di ba you're f****n (censored) also? "

What goes around, comes around. Takes one to know one.

End of story. End of affair.

Letter from a Reader: A Bully Pastor's Family

Dear Fashion PULIS,

Hi Mr. Lim. I know your blog has been the voice of some people who experience unfortunate situations. I am writing to share with your readers the horrible experience I and my daughter had a few weeks ago.

My mother, myself and my 5-year-old daughter were in a Kiddie Pen KP inside a major mall last Sept 13, 2013 at 3pm. We left my daughter there so we could do some groceries. It was not the first time that I brought my daughter there, as it has been my practice to bring her there whenever I'd be in a hurry to do some errands so she could play and would be safe - until that fateful day.

While my mother and I were in the grocery, I didn't know that my daughter was being bullied, hurt, kicked in the head and chest by a big 7-year-old boy inside KP. We learned about this when we went back to pick her up. My daughter immediately told me that she was hurt by that boy. I confronted the caretakers of KP and was told that the boy is a regular customer and that he is unruly and hurts everyone there while his Lola and Lolo just watch.

I asked them for that boy's phone number and I called his guardian. The Lola who answered me tried to call the boy's Lolo but he refused to take the call. I ended up talking to the grandmother. I told her what happened in KP, but her reply shocked me: " In the event that your daughter dies, you just go and sue us. "

I was outraged! I did not expect such words coming from an elderly woman.

By Saturday morning, a day after the KP incident, my daughter started having fever and was vomiting. I rushed her to the hospital. Until the 8th day of her confinement, she was still having high fever. I could not have her checked by a neurologist because my medical insurance does not cover it.

My daughter's hospital confinement lasted 10 days. She has trauma and was asked to see a child psychiatrist. I am very worried.

I learned later on that the boy's grandfather is a Pastor and founder of a born again church affiliated with a big congregation. This congregation has a program that airs regularly on television and has a popular showbiz couple as one of its active members along with other celebrities.

I tried to reach out by calling them, leaving messages on facebook but these people are not responding. I am now at my wit's end. I was told that this Pastor and his family are untouchables.

This is the reason I am writing to you, FP. I want to expose how inhuman this Pastor and his family are.

May this be a warning to mothers and child guardians out there not to leave their children in paid playgrounds or playpen - caretakers/staff there can never be relied upon. Bullies are everywhere and our children's safety should always be foremost.

Thank you, Mr. Lim. God Bless you.

Sincerely,

Ms. Sol

Regular viewers of “The Buzz” were surprised when the show announced in its Sunday episode that it was the last appearance of Toni Gonzaga and Charlene Gonzales as hosts on the top-rating show.

Before the showbiz talk show ended, a video was shown tracing the journey of how “The Buzz” started up to the time when Gonzaga and Gonzales became part of it.

Voiced over by long-time "The Buzz" host Boy Abunda, he thanked the viewers for keeping the show number one for almost 15 years even when it had a number of changes in terms of hosts and format.

After the video, Gonzales and Gonzaga then said their goodbyes after joining Abunda as the show’s hosts for over three years.

It was not disclosed why Gonzales and Gonzaga are leaving the show. But in the video's voiceover, Abunda hinted about changes in the show.

"Sa inyong walang patid na pagsubaybay, sa inyong walang sawang pagsuporta at sa patuloy naming pagbibigay serbisyo, kasama kayo sa isang panibagong simula," Abunda said in the voiceover.

"Kasali kayo sa pagbubukas ng isang bagong kabanata, mas malawak, mas malaki. Pakikinggan, paguusapan at pakikialaman. Ito ang pagbabagong kakapitan, pagbabagong tatatak sa puso at isipan. Ito ang inyong ‘The Buzz,’" he said.

Gonzales took the opportunity to thank both Gonzaga and Abunda for the wonderful journey that they have shared.

“I just want to say thank you sa 'Buzz' family, sa lahat ng bumubuo ng 'Buzz,' it was a wonderful journey. It was a privilege and honor to be able to share the stage with two of the greatest artists in the industry – Toni Gonzaga and Boy Abunda,” she said.

“Isa rin sa mga reasons kung bakit ko tinanggap ang show na ito is because I want to work with the greats like the both of you. I would say that one of the best gifts that I received from this show was the friendship of you Boy and Toni. Mula sa puso ko maraming maraming salamat,” she added.

Gonzaga, for her part, said she will always look up to Abunda and Gonzales even though they won’t be working with each other every Sunday anymore, adding that she has learned a lot from them about life and career.

“Gusto ko magpasalamat sa Talk Unit for this wonderful opportunity, for letting me be a part of a show like 'The Buzz.' Maraming salamat din kay Tito Boy, he is the most generous person na nakilala ko sa industriyang ito. Hindi po nagsasawang ibahagi sa amin ang nalalaman niya sa industriya, I learned so much from him. Ate Charlene, I will always look up to you as a mom and as a wife. I have so much respect for the both of you,” she said.

Saying she doesn’t believe in goodbyes, Gonzaga said: “I believe that goodbyes don’t really mean that it’s the end or tapos na ang lahat. It just means na 'yung pamamaalam namin sa hapon na ito ay I’ll see you again. I will miss all of you.”
