Perpetually Despised

Growing up from a showbiz clan and public personalities, one would surmise that snob actor SA has learned how to handle fame, and more importantly, being a relative newcomer in the industry-- how to keep it.

Certainly, being a celebrity is never easy. From giving it your best in every public performance, your all in every take, you also are expected to look perfect from every angle and be amiable towards people, most especially your supporters, the masses, the people who continuously help you stay at the top. Nevertheless, it is still a dream job for most if only for the fame and huge money in exchange for such little discomforts.

SA is apparently very oblivious to this logic. During a recent event in the province, people were very disappointed with him, who was as elusive as a panda - choosing to stay inside the comforts of the van he was riding in, feigning a headache when he was supposed to be on top of it for a motorcade. He didn't want to be bothered in his hotel room, and had also denied the media any interviews. The public officer in charge of the event was pulling his hair in frustration but SA remained indifferent.

Likewise, one insider in SA's weekly noontime show also was in absolute shock at having first-hand experience at SA's arrogance and seemingly rude behaviour. What's more appalling is that his mother has been very tolerant of his son's attitude.

It would be amazing to see the numbers of SA's legion of young fans drop. With his lenient mother and no sensible advisers in sight, who knows what the future brings to SA, who does nothing but live up to his overrated image.

"Fame is an illusive thing -- here today, gone tomorrow. The fickle, shallow mob raises its heroes to the pinnacle of approval today and hurls them into oblivion tomorrow at the slightest whim; cheers today, hisses tomorrow; utter forgetfulness in a few months." ~ Henry Miller

Billy Crawford and Nikki Gil Have Called It Quits

After four and a half years of being together, the high-profile couple decided to end their relationship quietly. Once touted as one of showbiz’s long enduring relationships, Billy and Nikki shocked loved ones as they broke the news to them.

Billy tried to save the relationship, but Nikki found it best to sever it off for their own good. In the end, it was a mutual decision.

Earlier in the relationship, Billy and Nikki thought, and everyone believed that they would end up together. They were in fact seriously talking about buying a house of their own and some investments, too. But things happen for a reason, and years after, the separation was the best option for the both of them.

They confirmed though that there was no third party involved in the break-up. When asked to elaborate why, Billy admitted that perhaps, they kind of grew tired with each other and before they knew it, they felt they were already and slowly growing apart.

Nonetheless, both of them are thankful for the 4 ½ years of beautiful memories.

Celebs lead such charmed lives, you may be surprised to know that most of them have a kuripot streak. Just like lesser mortals, their gross spending doesn’t always match their net income.

Take, for instance, this young TV host/actress who demands to split the bill every time she dines out with friends—as in, she makes sure everyone pays the exact same amount. Or, the wife of a seasoned actor who buys fake branded shirts for her hubby’s TV appearances. There’s also this former matinee idol who relies on ex-deals for almost everything—from hotel accommodations to groceries.

There’s nothing wrong with being frugal. After all, it’s not how much you earn but how much you save. This is especially true in the unpredictable world of show biz, where you can be a millionaire today and a pauper tomorrow. The trappings of success can indeed be a trap. It reminds me of a poster which says: “Money talks! All mine says is goodbye!”

Work hard, spend moderately, live easy!

Read on and see how some celebs scrimp. Why not do the same—so you can stop asking yourself after each payday, “Where did my money go?”

Pops Fernandez

I must say that I always avoid splurging unnecessarily. I don’t think the term for me is kuripot. I’d rather say I’m practical. It’s hard-earned money; I want to spend it wisely.

Ogie Alcasid

I am kuripot only with myself. I like showering my loved ones with gifts that they will enjoy. My wife spoils me with nice things. Spending beyond our means would not be wise because our families need financial security. In the end, we realize that our money isn’t really ours but was lent to us as a blessing for us to be a blessing to others.

Amy Perez

I don’t go for brand names when it comes to the toys/gadgets and clothes of my kids. They don’t mind wearing local brands as long as they’re comfortable. The important thing about spending wisely is you get to save for your children’s future. As a mother, my priorities have changed. Before I buy something, I ask myself if I really need it. Anak muna bago sarili.

Christine Bersola-Babao

I scrimp when it comes to things I personally desire. Good thing I have a sweet hubby, who buys those things for me on special occasions. If it’s a pressing need, then I buy. Or, if it marks an important milestone, I buy something special with a special price tag. Most of the time, I wait until the item goes on sale. Spending wisely is very important because many people don’t have jobs. Also, I prioritize my scholars, and family members who need help for their medical needs. They are more important to me than material wealth. That’s not spending; that’s saving—saving lives.

Rita Avila

I always buy what I really need. Occasionally, I buy what I want. I compare prices when I go to the grocery. I buy what I think is reasonably priced, quality-wise. In restaurants, I don’t mind paying more if the food is great. I eat well and exercise to avoid getting sick so I don’t have to spend on medication. As for expensive bags, I think a hundred times until my husband buys it for me.

Kim Atienza

I get to scrimp on hair care because I always wear a hat. I don’t need fancy gels and waxes. I don’t even need a brush. Mas magulo ang buhok ko, mas gusto ko. But I never scrimp where my family is concerned. I want my wife Felicia and our kids to have the best that life has to offer. Spending wisely means the biggest allocations are for important things, such as a beautiful home and quality education. After money is set aside for these, then you can spend on luxury.

Going for Plan B

Controversial Celebrity CC had been frequently spotted in an Asian country AC the last couple of months. Those who saw her there wonder out loud what she was doing there when she had hardly any project or endorsement that would require her presence in AC for a shoot or campaign. Oh, which suddenly brings to mind, could it be the very reason why she was often seen there in the first place? Is there a certain ‘project’ on-going in AC? Uh oh – can’t resist to be malicious at this point.

It had been a long, dry spell of projects for CC for many months now. Things went from bad to worse when she transferred from Major Network MN to Promising Player PP. As is the culture in show business, your name can only take you so far – in the long and short of it, it is always talent that will prevail.

Suffice it to say that no matter the name and connections, CC did not make the cut. She was jobless for so long, something she can’t afford to be because she has children to feed. What’s next step? As in most showbiz vixens, there will always be a plan B - if you get the drift.

Looks like CC conducts her “business deals” in AC where it is most convenient. Reportedly, her high profile clients also prefer to deal with her in AC for more privacy. Hmmm, seems like the trade has been so lucrative. Does this explain why CC lives in style inspite of the long dry spell?

Easy Returns after Election

Political Figure PF had recently won in the last elections. After surviving and hurdling all the dirt thrown at him, PF had successfully trampled his rival for the nth time and emerged victorious in the contested position.

From the start, there had been a lot of misgivings and cynics who feel that PF won’t be able to win and deliver due to his past demeanors and controversies. And though PF has a considerable following, this fact alone doesn’t make a count all the time. What this country needs is a firm hand, as well as a hand that never dips into the public funds.

PF has professed to cooperate with his constituents and institute reforms. Truly, he was feeling the pressure from the huge expectation from the public.

In one event during the campaign, where PF and his Close Relative CR attended, they were overheard talking of loss of property and easy profit. To be specific, PF's relative was expressing her heartbreak for having to sell their property for the proceeds to be used for the campaign. PF casually brushed it off, and with full-confidence,told CR that she need not worry because, securing his seat meant that they will surely recover that financial loss in no time.

This appalling, sad revelation only add to the filth and crookedness that people associate with political leaders. PF had better not behave as if his term is a one, long shot take like in the films where he played the villain. He should just put his many cinematic portrayals as a protagonist, a father-figure, the brave soul who saves the day. In this case, he should allow his art to imitate life, for once.

Letter from a Reader: Shortchanging Fashionista

Dear Fashion Pulis,

I just want to let you know about this deceiving practice at a Fashion and Design School FS. The head of FS, who is a professional designer, had been doing this for a long time now. If you happen to call FS to inquire about their teaching staff, be prepared to be shocked by the names that you will hear – they are mostly beginners. The faculty is composed of their students who have just recently graduated in 2010 to 2012 with no proper training at all. At FS, there are only two names who are at most, familiar.

We all know how expensive it is to be educated in a fashion design school. The tuition and the materials alone will cost you an arm and a leg. Isn’t it but right that the school be armed with teachers with relevant skills and competency, along with pertinent experience to speak of – and not fresh graduates whose only qualification is their knowledge lifted from their textbooks? The backbone of any school rests in the quality of its teaching force which is the benchmark how your school will be judged.

This is very alarming.

And may I add that the teaching staff who handles the graduating students in creating their respective collections, to my knowledge is someone who only had done one collection showcase to his name – and that was his graduation collection in 2011! What right and credentials does he have to teach?

FP, I hope that your blog can help address this. I absolutely detest this system - this malpractice. FS had graduated not a few designers who are now well-known and respected in the industry, both local and international. It makes me cringe at the possibility of FS graduating lemons if this present system is not properly and seriously addressed – and in the process, damaging the good reputation of the school.

Thank you very much, Fashion PULIS.

From a Concerned FS Alumna

Beyonce's Hair Gets Stuck in Fan While Singing

The Royal Baby

Source: www.cnn.com

London (CNN) -- The public got its first view of the new heir to the British throne Tuesday as Prince William and Catherine, the Duchess of Cambridge, left a London hospital hospital with their newborn son.

"It's very special," said William, who emerged from St. Mary's Hospital with his wife a day after the birth of their still-unnamed boy. Catherine held the child, wrapped in a cream-colored blanket, as the couple waved to well-wishers outside.

The couple is "still working on a name," William said, "so we'll have that as soon as we can." But he added, "He's got her looks, thankfully."

The prince has already changed his first diaper, the couple told reporters.

"It's very emotional. It's such a special time," Catherine said.

The couple left the hospital Tuesday evening with William carrying the boy out in a car seat and installing him in the back of a black SUV for the trip to their residence at Kensington Palace. They walked out down the same steps where Diana, Princess of Wales, and Prince Charles gave the world its first sighting of Prince William 31 years ago.

Shortly before the couple left the hospital, Charles stopped by for a brief visit with his first grandchild, accompanied by his wife, Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall. He told reporters it was "marvelous."

And Catherine's parents, Carole and Michael Middleton, visited earlier, with Carole Middleton telling reporters the royal baby is "absolutely beautiful."

She said both mother and baby are doing "really well" and that she and her husband were "so thrilled" at being grandparents.
