The Threat

Enraged Actor (EA) used to benefit from hanging around Influential Personality (IP). Aside from showbiz commitments, EA allegedly earned much from IP. Although EA has kept a low profile, observers have been quick to react to his having a beautiful house and other material stuff. They felt that EA’s career might not have been lucrative enough to support his present assets.

Times were happy with IP until Hunk Talent (HT) asked EA for help. HT wanted to get into business and IP had the contacts for the introductions. EA helped HT and thus began HT seeing IP often. IP invited HT frequently, while invitations to EA lessened. Then, EA was told to focus on his family rather than hang around with IP.

Later on, EA found out that his work with IP was taken over by HT. EA could not confront HT or IP. Worse, EA’s benefits from IP were cut; after all, every task he did was based on the discretion of IP. Meanwhile, HT has been reaping what could have EA’s. EA suspected HT might have said something against him that made IP drop him.

With HT beaming with his finances despite having no projects, Close Relation (CR) asked what he was doing. HT said he was working with IP and benefitting from his contacts. CR, who is feeling the effects of the pandemic, asked HT if he could also be introduced to IP. CR needed work, as the pandemic has displaced a lot of people. HT responded negatively and gave the excuse that IP wants to keep his relationship with HT private. Thus, if CR needed financial help, he’ll make sure he gets it. Perhaps, HT felt that CR might do what he did to EA once introductions are made to IP.

Poor Excuse

Despite the limited opportunities resulting from the pandemic, Confident Celebrity (CC) seems to take for granted possible ways to keep his career afloat. Allegedly, CC has been attempting to gain entry into mainstream media to promote his craft. However, things have been difficult given that CC has slowly backed away from traditional management styles. Thus, CC has instructed his team to find venues for promotions.

Liaison Person (LP) booked CC on a Popular Venue (PV). The schedule was set and PV was excited that CC would come over. The day came and CC was nowhere in sight. PV called to ask where he was. According to LP, CC was running late due to traffic. Two hours later, CC arrives with his team. His assigned staff from PV has already changed.

Prior to entering the location, LP said that they will be disinfecting the equipment CC would be using. The PV staff was piqued, as they had been following protocols of disinfecting every two hours. They had just finished disinfecting and LP’s request would take more time. LP said CC gave specific instructions and disinfecting will be done quickly or else CC will reprimand him. No choice and PV allowed LP to implement the disinfection.

As soon as CC entered the venue, he apologized for being late and said he had to pickup Female Talent (FT) from the salon, as they had a function to attend after PV. CC was given his moment immediately. For documentation, the recorders skipped taking photos of FT, who was fully made up and waiting at a corner of the room for CC. Apparently, CC and FT were also going to related venues to PV. They were obviously late for those appointments as well.

When CC left, PV called the related venues and relayed the disinfecting experience, among others. Given the late time, LP received a call that cancelled the subsequent trips of CC to the related venues. Other guests had already arrived at their designated time and CC missed his slot.

Ineffective Strategy

A celebrity’s worth is only realized when circumstances arise. On one hand, management can refuse to let go of a talent by offering lucrative deals, such as higher pay and better projects. On the other hand, management can let a celebrity’s contract lapse without any action. The silence serves as the sign that the talent is eased out of his/her management. Thus, the celebrity has to find other means of continuing his/her career.

Sometimes, management can apply strategies to find out how much a celebrity is valued. Floating news about a talent’s plans has been called out by showbiz observers as a way to make interested parties notice a talent. For example, plans about leaving or moving are assumed to imply the talent wants better deals with the present management. Allegedly, the camp of Displaced Actress (DA) has been playing such a game, which caught industry players flat-footed.

Influential Celebrity (IC) was asked about DA’s plans and he vehemently denied having to do anything about DA’s future. IC would have given an affirmative answer if he were involved in DA’s career. Meanwhile, Puzzled Executives (PE) had to check their camp if anyone had something to say about DA’s moves. The investigation showed that nothing came from their side. Allegedly, the move to involve their team infuriated PE and stories of offers were thumbed down.

Given the reactions, DA’s camp had no choice but to accept the offer presented to them. The offer, although allegedly with a lesser fee, might be good enough to ensure DA’s visibility.

Standing Firm

An important lesson conveyed by celebrities who have lasted decades in the industry is humility. Moreover, the treatment from the lowest rank to the highest rank should be consistent, that is, to be kind regardless of status. Sadly, newbies often bear the attitude of celebrities who attained popularity ahead of them. Some newbies can look back at the experience that made them stronger and determined to break into the industry.

Years after working hard to achieve her status, Brave Celebrity (BC) probably did not anticipate the effect of opening her mouth. After she shared her story, which is commonly done during interviews, the reactions of the audience were unbelievable. Suddenly, everyone seemed to know BC’s secret despite her very incomplete narrative.

One day, BC received a call from Unexpected Intermediator (UI). Apparently, UI did not like the effect of BC’s story on Distraught Figure (DF). DF has not reacted publicly, but UI saw how DF has been bothered by BC’s story. Hence, UI allegedly asked BC to ditch her post given that DF has been experiencing anxiety. Besides, past is past.

UI did not expect BC’s answer. BC refused to adhere to the request and questioned the audacity of UI to give such an order. After all, no names were mentioned. UI responded that he has connections that can shut down BC. BC did not like the threatening sound of UI and added she does not care. End of conversation.
