Go Ahead

These days, social media is a powerful marketing tool that is recognized by various sectors. On the one hand, celebrities use their social media accounts to gain publicity, obtain endorsements, and rant off their sentiments. On the other hand, bashers hound celebrities and flood certain social media accounts with negativity, which is not good if the celebrity-owner is an endorser. The negativity might rub on the celebrity and subsequently, on his/her endorsements. Even the best damage control strategists of networks are helpless when a deluge of negativity floods a prized celebrity’s account.
With negativity coming into the picture, the production team and think tanks of a big network are on pins and needles as a new project needs to be up soon. The problem they foresee is that their Projected Replacement (PR) might become the weakest link of that time slot.
PR has been in the works, but taping was not given much publicity until some photos and videos of the cast surfaced in social media. At that time, nothing much was made out of the materials, but were thought of as the talents getting into a trend. After a few days, truth came out that their activity was their preparation for PR, which earned the posts mixed comments from netizens and bashers.
The material is not the problem of PR, rather, it’s one of the Main Leads (ML). ML has been dragged into left and right publicity, which is foreseen to have a negative effect on the showing of PR. Thus, finding a timeslot that would ensure high ratings is another issue. Regardless of the efforts of the damage control, the mere presence of ML draws much negativity in social media.
Bad publicity for PR, which could affect the foothold of the network in that timeslot is definitely not needed. However, the management cannot do anything much, but to push through with PR, as the actors of the leaving project need to move on to other areas of their lives.
‘Don't think for a minute that bad publicity and endless criticism don't leave their claw marks on everyone concerned. Your friends try to cheer you up by saying lightly, ‘I suppose you get used to it, and ignore it.’ You try. You try damned hard. But you never get used to it. It always wounds and hurts.’ - Ava Gardner

Repost: GMA Network Responds to Investigation Report of DOLE on Incident Involving Eddie Garcia

GMA Network filed its Comment today on the preliminary findings of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) in the investigation into the incident involving the late Mr. Eddie Garcia.
Prior to the formal hearing, DOLE-National Capital Region Regional Director Sarah Buena Mirasol stated that GMA allegedly committed three violations under the Implementing Rules and Regulations (IRR) of the Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Law: failure to submit an incident report within 24 hours, to employ or designate a safety officer, and to employ or designate a certified First Aider.
GMA, in its Comment, explained that after completing its thorough internal investigation, the Network initially gave a copy of the results to the family of Mr. Garcia as a matter of respect and thereafter voluntarily submitted a copy to the DOLE on July 5, 2019 in compliance with the law and its IRR.
Regarding the first finding, GMA noted that the IRR, as worded, states that such a case of “work accidents resulting in disabling injury or death” is an exception to the requirement that a report be made within 24 hours from the occurrence. Nonetheless, GMA submitted the report within one (1) month from the accident which occurred last June 8, 2019.
Secondly, on having a designated safety officer in the workplace, GMA confirms that it actually has sufficient number of DOLE-certified safety officers catering to its employees. The “workplace” covered by the OSH Law is deemed to refer only to those places where services of the employees are regularly rendered. The IRR cannot expand the coverage of the law to include temporary, moving, or shifting locations. Extending said requirement of the law through the IRR to all temporary taping locations would unreasonably burden the industry with a requirement which is beyond the contemplation of the law.
GMA maintains safety and security in tapings through extensive discussions among its safety officers, the program’s officers, and staff and its contractors in coordination with Barangay officials having jurisdiction over the locations for security, traffic and crowd control matters.
Lastly, on designating first aid responders, GMA validated that three production staff who have completed the Philippine Red Cross' lecture demonstration on First Aid and Basic Life Support – CPR were present on the location site on the day of the accident. Despite the safety measures undertaken by GMA, it was determined that what happened was an unforeseeable accident.
Moreover, in an article published in The Philippine Daily Inquirer on September 7, 2019, it was mentioned that GMA Network refused to comply with DOLE’s directive to provide a list of the locations of all its teleseryes, which shall be subject to inspection by its representatives. GMA, for its part, said that there was no refusal to provide the information. The locations and schedules were not submitted immediately because of their tentativeness and the fact that they are too numerous to remember from memory. These tapings are under the supervision of different officers and thus needed ample time to compile. However, a list of regular taping locations and schedules was submitted within the prescribed period.
The Kapuso Network assures that it will continue to cooperate with the DOLE on this matter.

Mistaken Move

Network Actress 1 (NA1) and Network Actress 2 (NA2) started as supportive friends when the cameras of their project started to roll. Their relationship was admired by the production as the two behaved like sisters. They would even apply makeup on each other. Thus, production days went smoothly. However, in one take, NA1 accidentally pulled NA2’s hair hard, as she was following the instructions of the director to make the scene realistic. When she realized what she did, she immediately apologized to NA2 and all was well until Dashing Hunk (DH) entered the picture.
One time, DH took a video during their break that showed NA1 resting. DH did another video and wrote a positive caption on NA1’s looks. He tagged NA1, who simply said ‘thank you’. Later on, while NA1 was doing her live recording, her phone caught DH dressing up. NA1 commented on how sexy his body was. Similarly, DH just said thank you’.
While DH was not looking, NA2 tinkered with his phone and read the private messages of NA1 and DH. NA2 did not like the implication of the exchanges and felt that NA1 had an agenda. Since that moment, her resentment against NA1 started to grow. When NA2 was talking to some staff members, she allegedly said that NA1 was slow in her wit.
NA2 could not confront NA1 despite her growing ill-feelings. Thus, when she read the script that called for intense action with NA1, NA2 knew that was her chance to pour out her frustration. The intensity of the scene was building up and NA2 was giving her all, and boom! An extra action hit NA1’s face. No apologies came from NA2 after the scene.
After a few days, social media became alive with the said incident and to level off things, NA2 apologized. The negative comments against NA2 were overwhelming and that might affect their project. The aftermath of the said incident should have ended with that apology, but NA2 was far from done. Within her circle, she admitted that she only apologized upon instructions of one of the production heads. She could not help but do that extra motion, as she was grossed out by her hunch that NA1 was doing sly moves to steal DH from her.
