Money matters, especially when one no longer receives as many offers as before. Unfortunately, a store and its event organizers realized that adage the hard way. Since that moment, the parties vowed never to interact with Transformed Host (TH) again.

At the height of his career, TH was always in demand for events and shows. He has earned a reputation of competence and articulateness. Hence, TH was always the reliable person when organizers want a show to move on smoothly. Times change and TH moved on to other more challenging activities. Slowly, he became less visible in mainstream media.

Once in a while, TH would have endorsements and sometimes he would be invited for an appearance. Recognizing TH could make their event more attractive, a store invited TH and a couple of family members. The three showed up and everything went smoothly until TH presented the invoice for showing up.

The PR was shocked at the six-figure fee presented by TH. Surprised at the amount, the PR told TH that there was no such agreement. However, TH was adamant. Thus, the PR said that as they were not prepared for his demand of payment, they did not have that much cash on hand. The gift certificates were insufficient as well. To avoid negative social media publicity, the store gave what it could to TH and to compensate for the remaining amount, asked if store goods could be accepted as well. Taking advantage of the situation, TH got items he believed are worth his appearance.

Disappointed at the attitude of TH, the PR dropped the plan to obtain the services of TH to be the store’s social media ambassador. Such plan would have given more exposure to TH as the store has an international reputation. So, now, the store does not want to have anything to do with TH. Moreover, such incidents and attitude would have greater impact on the grapevine of public relations practitioners, particularly on which talents to hire.
