Sometime ago, Tall Actor (TA) was invited to grace a religious pageant in a provincial town somewhere north of Metro Manila. Given that the nature of the pageant is Catholic, images and relics were essential elements of the ritual. The yearly event is a grand occasion for any town, as the best and the best-looking are often tapped to join. Celebrities are often the highlight of the parade, and TA was part of the entourage.
Dressed in the appropriate attire, the march was delayed because TA refused to budge. The moment he saw the Catholic religious images placed behind him, he freaked out and insisted that he will not move at all until the images were removed. The organizers were shocked at the attitude of TA, as the actor was informed of what he was joining. Any Filipino is expected to be familiar with the nature of the event, but in the case of TA, he seemed clueless.
TA reasoned out that his religion does not allow such icons and he is a very devoted follower of his church. Therefore, he will not take part in any event that will show him marching with religious icons. The attitude of TA delayed the event, as the parties had to compromise. So as not to ruin the expectations of the people who waited for hours for the event, the organizers did not have any choice, but to adhere to the request of TA. After all, TA has already been paid and if he suddenly drops out, the payment would have been for naught. Thus, the order of the traditional march had to be rearranged. Instead of being last, TA and his partner went ahead of every one else.
Incidentally, TA has been in the industry for some time and has starred in several significant roles in his network. He has also won recognition for his acting and other talents. However, his loveteam with pretty young actress ended, and their fans claim that such an end coincided with their alleged breakup.
