To assist her advocacy, Local Talent (LT) organized a pre-love sale of things owned by fellow artists some time ago. The beneficiary was for a worthy cause, an issue that is very close to LT and other celebrities. Hence, donations were easy to come by. LT was supported by her fellow talents from the same network who believe in what she’s fighting for.
When Major Artist (MA) found out that LT was having a sale, she immediately checked her closet and sorted out the items that she felt could get a good price. Besides, MA is known to have a taste in clothes, shoes, and bags, and thus, any item she donates would quickly be bought. Finally, MA gave a few of her shoes, and these are not the cheap ones. Young Celebrity (YC) joined in and donated a few of her shirts.
After a few weeks, MA and LT accidentally met in a high-end store. As the two are good friends, they exchanged pleasantries, but MA was a bit distracted when she looked down. She sort of recognized the pair of shoes that LT was wearing. The resemblance to the pair of shoes that she donated was very obvious. However, she held back and did not say anything. She thought that the pair worn by LT could just be a similar one. After all, LT could afford to buy a similar pair.
While MA shrugged her initial thoughts, she suddenly became shocked when she saw the shirt the nanny of LT was wearing. The garment looked familiar. After a few seconds, MA realized the shirt was among those items YC donated. Although disappointment took over, she tried her best to hide her realization. Still, she suddenly recalled a comment that asked why LT did not publicize the sale she was having. Moreover, MA had to come to terms that while the items were indeed donated, the sponsor should have at least the decency not to rummage through the items for personal interest.
‘You get people talking about being worried about their art, and dances... their culture being wiped out or taken over, and yet these same people are taking advantage of their people to use them as cheap labour.’ – Arlo Guthrie
