A Misinterpreted Incident

Just as people in her network thought that Pretty Actress (PA) would not return to her notorious ways, the production staff of one of their programs was happy and puzzled at her sudden arrival at their location. PA dropped by unannounced, which caught the team unprepared. However, since PA seemed to be in a jovial mood, they did not mind.

Nonetheless, the visit of PA to the said location was not really given much meaning until Beautiful Co-Star (BC) realized the reason for the sudden unexplained showing up of PA. BC and PA have been friends for a long time, as both started similarly in their network. Both gifted with natural beauty and dedication to work, they have established their own place in the network. However, PA is the bigger celebrity because she came ahead of BC.

Prior to the set visit, BC received a text coming from PA. Upon reading the said message, BC already had clues as to where that text might lead. She knows PA very well, and she anticipated if she would be part of the elite group of network actresses who had been victims of PA’s wrath resulting from jealousy. When they saw each other, they explained pleasantries, but BC could not really talk to PA, as she was in the middle of taping.

The unannounced set visit might have been triggered by PA getting jealous at the seeming closeness of Her Husband (HH) with BC. HH and BC are together in the said project, and their onscreen romance is being played up. While HH is not known as a womanizer and is very professional with all the staff, they know that nothing is happening between BC and HH. Ironically, for PA, who even suggested BC to play her current role, she will express her jealousy in creative ways.

For now, no one from either party dare to speak concerning this little incident.

‘Like hatred, jealousy is forbidden by the laws of life because it is essentially destructive.’ - Alexis Carrel

Repost: Mother Lily: Christmas is No Time for Indie Films

Regal Films matriarch Lily Monteverde told reporters that she is saddened by the exclusion of "Mano Po 7: Chinoy" from the list of official entries to the 2016 Metro Manila Film Festival.

"When I heard about it talagang umiyak ako," Monteverde admitted after announcing that the newest installment of the "Mano Po" franchise will hit theaters instead on December 14, one week ahead of the start of the annual film festival.

Monteverde added that she is worried that the poor will have no movies to look forward to this coming Christmas season, before she criticized the MMFF screening committee for filling this year's lineup with mostly independent films.

"Sana naman after this year, they [the MMFF screening committee] should understand --it's not that I'm teaching them pero all these poor people, mayroon silang mga bonus. Once they get their bonus, they bring the whole family to the movies to watch. ...Sayang lang nanghihinayang ako sa mga bata."

The veteran producer, who claimed to have arranged indie movie festivals in the past, also said: "There is a time for the indie movies. But not during the Christmas season. Christmas is for the family."

The official entries to the 2016 MMFF were announced last week, headlined by Jun Robles Lana's award-winning transgender film "Die Beautiful." The list became controversial following the exclusion of the aforementioned "Mano Po 7," Vice Ganda's "The Super Parental Guardians," and Vic Sotto's "Enteng Kabisote."

In defense of the list, Dr. Nicanor Tiongson of the University of the Philippines Film Institute, the head of this year's screening committee, said: "Let us not dumb down the audience."

Movie Review: The Unmarried Wife

Main Cast:  Angelica Panganiban, Dingdong Dantes, Paulo Avelino
Director: Maryo J. De Los Reyes
MTRCB Rating: R 13
Released by : Star Cinema

After their beautiful wedding, Anne (Angelica Panganiban) and Geoff (Dingdong Dantes) are the picture of a happy couple in a loving and committed relationship ... until everything begins to crumble.

" The Unmarried Wife " is easily an Angel Panganiban movie, who portrays a career driven woman, while keeping a balance to maintain a happy home for her husband and son.  Turns out, her best isn’t good enough.

Anne’s  idealism is put to a test when she finds out that Geoff has been cheating on her. But she chooses to turn a blind eye in the beginning, not wanting to compromise her reputation,  work and family.

Anne’s situation gets more complicated as she gets drowned by the  demands from the workplace made even worse when she begins to entertain the romantic advances of Bryan (Paulo Avelino), who unbeknownst to her has domestic issues as well.

The narratives in the film revolve around these conflicts, with some of the  scenes and dialogs already seen and uttered before in other movies with similar plots.  Yet there’s no denying that the lead actors in the movie are enough to pique the moviegoers’ interest in the film.

To be fair, Angelica did well, a testament to her multiple awards and citations from her earlier movies, notably – Santa Santita,  One More Try and That Thing Called Tadhana, among others.  However, " The Unmarried Wife " falls short in some aspects.

The movie is unnecessarily long – all of two hours and ten minutes, often on redundant and lengthy dialogs. You just get bored and tired hearing the word  "sorry" uttered so many times within minutes apart.

Yes, it is dragging at times, more so when you expect much from Dingdong’s performance yet you leave the cinema wanting more from him. Similarly,  Paulo isn’t any different either. His attack on his character as Anne’s obsessive lover borders on one that has a mental problem, his eyes and moves say it all. However, Denise Laurel and Maricar Reyes’ performances, albeit in cameo roles, impacted more.

Thankfully, the musical score and Juris’ ’ Someday’ help save the day. Likewise, the support characters - Anne’s close friends and her company team providing the laughs and entertainment.

The matter of marital infidelity and betrayal is serious business. It’s easy to think you will step out of the door once your spouse cheats on you, but when confronted with the reality of divorce or dissolving your marriage, the stakes are really high…more so in our double standard culture.

Overcoming the devastation of betrayal is never easy, it isn’t. But it can be worked on. In fact, many a couple have decided to stay married after surviving the many storms in their marriage.

Has the film properly addressed the issue of infidelity? Find out for yourself.

The Unmarried Wife also stars Dimples Romana, Irma Adlawan, Justin Cuyugan, Martin Escudero, Pamu Pamorada, now showing in cinemas.

Kanye West canceled his Sunday night gig at The Forum in L.A. hours before he was set to take the stage.

Sources tell TMZ the rapper is taking a breather to deal with personal issues. Kanye's week took several interesting turns after he first announced his support for Donald Trump at Thursday's San Jose show, and then two days later dissed Beyonce and Jay Z from his floating stage.

The concert tonight was already a rescheduled show from earlier in the month when he decided to cut it short and stormed off the stage.
