The experience of staying overnight at the Senate compound and receiving nothing in return did not dampen the determination of Almery Igharas to look for donors for her only son, Mark Vincent Papa.
Three-year-old Mark suffers from cerebral palsy, epilepsy and myopic astigmatism.
“That was in February. [The senator’s staff] promised to text me but they did not,” said Almery, a 24-year-old native from Kalibo, Aklan.
Although the other senator did not deliver on her promise, Almery said they received from Sen. Tito Sotto P5,000 which went to Mark’s physical and occupational therapy sessions at the Philippine Children’s Medical Center. The boy needs physical therapy to relax his muscles and boost his reflexes while occupational therapy teaches him to eat, digest and swallow food.
Mother and son are temporarily staying at a tire supply shop in San Rafael, Bulacan, where her husband, Aprilito Papa, works as a welder.
On Friday, Mark is scheduled to undergo dental surgery to remove almost all of his rotting teeth to prevent damage to his brain.
For this, the family will need P73,000 which they are still trying to raise. “I know God will find a way,” said Almery who can be reached at 0910-0036523. Donations can be deposited in her BPI Family Savings Bank account (Almery Igharas/account no. 7426-1321-89).

A Celebration of Vengeance

However, there was something more than what meets the eye. Thus, LS asked from whom the food came from. One of the members of the Production Team (PT) said Seasoned Actress (SA) sent the food as her way of expressing her gratitude for the good work the crew was doing. It was a thanksgiving feast, PT told LS. Conscious of her body, LS went about her own business and prepared for her scenes.
LS has not been getting quite lucky the past few weeks. First, her movie was a major flop. However, the movie was shown alongside with Hollywood movies and naturally, a local movie would not be patronized as expected. Worse, the box-office receipts did not even reach a third of the cost of the production. This rate was understandable as several theater owners opted to pull out the movie within three days. For someone who has had a respectable record at the box office, her movie was an embarrassment, as the results showed that LS is not capable of drawing a sizeable number of moviegoers to patronize her project. Second, while LS was expecting something big with Her Partner (HP), things did not turn out well. HP did not meet the target in an event he joined. In other words, the endeavors of LS have been losing ventures.
While LS has a spate of poor results, her only saving grace thus far is her teleserye, which the production team has been taking care of quite well in the aftermath of a controversy. No thanks to LS, the production had to think of ways to fill in the void left by the departure of SA. Lucky for LS, the writers have been coming up with commendable effort and the team has managed to keep the project afloat. Survival is crucial for the team, as shelving the project would mean loss of income and jobs for people behind the scenes. Of course, even if the teleserye gets cancelled, LS still has a luxurious home to come home to, unlike the non-actors of the team.
After eating, PT called SA and thanked her for her generosity. Then, PT asked SA why she was quite lavish even though she was no longer part of the project. SA then said that she found out about the poor showing of the movie of LS as well as the loss of HP. Thus, the entire treat was really her version of a celebration of vengeance. Karma has it that SA will have the last laugh.
