On new year's eve, Colombians observed their tradition of burning effigies to ward off bad luck for the year, but with a twist: the faces on some of the effigies included Miss Universe Pia Wurtzbach and US comedian Steve Harvey, the 2015 Miss Universe coronation night host.
A video of the effigy-burning activity was posted on Facebook on Friday, January 1, by user Noider Almanza Barraza, and has since gone viral. In it, effigies of Pia and Steve are being burned.
Noider turns the camera around after a while, and smiles, waves, and cheers. Other cheers and festive music is heard in the background as well.
The video was reposted on the Senyora Santibanez Facebook page on Saturday, January 2. Many Filipino social media users called out Noider and Colombians on being "bitter" about their bet's loss at the Miss Universe pageant.
The burning of effigies, called año viejo (old year), is a New Year's Eve tradition in Latin American countries, where it is believed that the act wards off bad luck in the coming year. The effigies are burned at the stroke of midnight too.
Other Latin American social media users who observe the tradition have posted photos of their effigies of Pia and Steve too.
On December 20, Pia won the Miss Universe title in Las Vegas, after host Steve Harvey mistakenly announced Colombia's Ariadna Gutierrez as the winner. Steve apologized for his mistake after.
Ariadna has since spoken up about the incident on Colombia’s W Radio, saying that the experience humbled her and the rest of the Latin community present at the pageant.

Sacrificing A Future for Love

The Alleged Ex-Lover (AL) of a Hunk Talent (HT) did not realize that he would go through much sacrifice to prove his love for HT. While HT has slowly built his career, he allegedly had a relationship with AL even if he also had a girlfriend. The arrangement was fine with AL and he continued to shower HT with his needs and wants. Sometimes, HT would even be seen with the family of AL and all seemed to be going well.
However, unless love were indeed true and not based on what material wealth one can give, then a relationship is doomed to fail. When the finances started to drop and AL had no other means to sustain the material lifestyle he has given to HT, the poor lover resorted to illegal means. AL started stealing just to provide for HT. Driven by his blind love for HT, AL broke the law and was caught. Consequently, AL landed in jail.
When HT found out what happened to AL, he broke off his alleged relationship with AL and was never seen again. Nothing was heard from HT again, as AL continued to languish in jail. Meanwhile, the family of AL was so upset that they kept prodding AL to tell his story to media and reveal the “user” side of the actor. However, AL refused to budge and justified his silence with his love for HT. AL was being convinced to spill the beans to serve as a warning to possible people HT might use for his needs.
Even if AL were to reveal his story, he might simply be dismissed and ignored by media. The present lover of HT is too much in love with the actor to believe that HT could be capable of such behavior. HT and his present lover (PL) seem to be an unlikely couple, and kibitzers have commented that HT is such a prized catch for the woman. Of course, the cynics believe that something else might be involved in their relationship. Because of love, HT and PL are having the time of their lives, while AL is still serving his time.
