To promote the network and its shows overseas, the management launched a series of shows abroad. The network sent some of its big name stars, who were mostly former talents of the other network, to attract more viewers to patronize their shows. One of the channel’s shows is known for attempting to develop the hosting talents of non-showbiz personalities. Being a good friend of her family, non-showbiz host (NSH) was asked to join the show of controversial host (CH). Hosting is far from the background of NSH but her presence in the show adds more recall to the family name. Since she’s already in media, certain expectations are demanded from NSH. Her actions are already being noticed. NSH needs to adjust so she can be an endearing personality, which will translate to plus points for her family.

Take the case of the arrival of NSH and other network personalities at the airport. People noticed that very few bothered to give attention to NSH. Hence, her bodyguards had an easy time. The other talents were fussed upon by the crowd, which was in contrast to how the crowd reacted to NSH. When some press people approached her for an interview, NSH avoided them. The press said that they won’t bother with her if she does not want to talk and that they did not find NSH an interesting subject. Someone tried to make the customary kissing on the cheek of NSH. As expected, she did her best to move away. Onlookers felt a bit slighted at the attitude of NSH.

In contrast, CH was his usual flamboyant self with the crowd, and used his charm to win them over. Despite his bodyguards, he allowed the fans to come nearer to him. Then, he asked the crowd if they had eaten. Then, CH gave away some money before he checked-in for their flight. Will CH be able to rub some of his charisma to make NSH more endearing to the audience? Let's wait and see.

Break up Mystery and the Alleged Party

When they became a couple, dancer host (DH) and his tall girlfriend (TG) bucked all intrigues, and tried to keep their relationship on a low profile. However, the relationship came just too quickly as DH was still, as far as the public knew then, with a singer. In fact, the singer was clueless as to why DH broke up with her. Prior to the singer, DH was involved with an actress (A) who recently broke up with bankable leading man (BL). Moving on, DH and TG continued to be seen together and people noticed that DH was in love and inspired in his performances.

Although TG has the looks and talent, she could not connect with the audience, so she was not as visible as DH was on television. Nonetheless, TG seemed to be contented supporting DH. There were even rumors that DH was finally settling down with TG, and was building a house for both of them. Of course, the other complementary rumor is that they were living together.

Now, while the public and the press did not bother with DH and TG, a few days ago, the couple called it quits. DH found TG too demanding, and over jealous with his female best friend (FB). At a restaurant, TG cursed DH to the point that he felt so small, and was deeply hurt by the actions of TG. Immediately, TG retrieved her dogs from his place.

Note that DH and FB grew up together, and the audience saw them evolve from cute kids into their current status in showbiz. Besides, the sister of DH and FB are also the best of friends. Was there a specific incident between DH and FB that spurned TG? By the way, FB is single now, and a few weeks ago FB was in the limelight because of the breakup of A and BL.

The relationships of this pretty actress (PA) are always controversial. Two of her highly-publicized relationships (H1 and H2) seemed to have a pattern — both are sons of influential men and both have children from previous relationships. Her relationship with H1 was muddled by his almost mother-in-law, and when it got too complicated, PA bailed out.

However, PA’s relationship with H2 is more interesting than with H1. While H2 was away, PA continued to benefit from the lavish lifestyle she enjoyed with him. She would use his car and driver without regard for the needs of the members of the family of H2. The patriarch had to step in and PA had no choice but to return the car. At one point, PA told people that she and H2 have already broken up but they really haven’t. The family of H2 kept quiet because they feared H2 might do something foolish again all because of PA. Besides, the family did not like her at all because they felt PA was just using H2 to satisfy her material needs.

Then PA started enjoying the company of another actor (AA), who comes from an old rich family. At that time, AA was already ending his relationship with his traumatized girlfriend (TG). Since PA and AA were doing a project together, there was an excuse for them to be seen together. AA even brought PA to a network event but everyone thought this appearance was a publicity gimmick. Within the next months, PA would be seen with H2 but she would not comment on their relationship. Then, she would be seen with AA, such as catching the last full show of a movie. In a recent interview, AA was asked about PA. AA requested privacy over that issue.

Has AA fallen in love again? Has PA totally released H2 from her grasp, or is she still keeping his company for material reasons, while having AA at her side? Is PA merely being user-friendly? Your guesses are as good as mine.

Celebrities were spotted in a controversial concert. Spotted in the crowd were notorious starlet (NS) and her actor boyfriend (AB). NS gained fame for portraying sexy roles, and for behaving rudely towards co-workers and family members. Early this summer, stories came out that NS and AB broke up, but seeing them together in the concert cemented the angle that the break-up story was merely a gimmick so they can be talked about.

During the concert, the performer looked into the area where NS was. Then, the performer said something about looking good in make-up. Of course, the people around her felt NS was being alluded to. The performer then stressed the point: without wearing make-up would make one even look better. If the message got into NS, no one knows.

At this point in her career, NS is one of those starlets rumoured to be a product of beauty enhancements. For example, her skin tone is much lighter compared to when she was just starting out, and her nose was not as pointed then as it is now.

If her sister heard the comment of the performer, would she have merely smiled with thoughts of, “I told you so”? Or, would she remind NS that true beauty comes from within, and that no amount of science could hide the ugliness of one's character?

The Enigma of a Gaga

The Gaga is a Lady. Oh yes, she is eccentric, flamboyant, fearless, and to her Filipino fans -- she's real, a Gaga by their definition. An artist who rose to fame for her diverse taste in music and outlandish fashion. And they go gaga over her, tagging her every performance as beyond the best, and her every word downright quotable. Who can argue with that?

Worldwide, Lady Gaga’s music and presence never fail to stir controversy in a huge way. Her bizzare stage performances are often subjects to criticisms and ridicule. Her Born This Way Ball Tour sparked debates from people of all persuasions - religion, politics, entertainment. And just about every Tom, Dick and Harry, too. Locally, it is also the limelight-seeking politicians who dip their already dirty fingers to every issue one can imagine. But often than not, it's the the religious communities who feel strongly against her. They label Lady Gaga and her music as blasphemous, disrespectful, profane. Guys, have you heard of freedom called expression?

These people protest that her songs' lyrics are too offensive and provocative for comfort. They believe their fear that her huge influence will make the youth astray and be menace to society. They claim that she is a devil doing satanic rituals on the pretext of music. Oh, my foot!

But why this violent reaction over Lady Gaga? Why didn’t we protest about other foreign artists who were here before her, whose image and music were likewise as controversial, if not dubious? What made her so ‘special’ to deserve a boycott? Oh well, so much over-acting for nothing. Or so much ignorance.

Wasn't Lady Gaga the one who put up a foundation to empower the youth, who was the first to stand up and raised millions to help Japan and Haiti after the devastating earthquakes, who joined MAC to support people living with aids, and the list goes on? Is this now the new definition of devil?

And who are these supposed judges of Gaga's character? Have you ever filled even half her shoes? Please stand up and be counted.

Since when did it happen that listening to love songs will make you fall in love, exposure to religious songs will make you godly, and listening to Gaga’s Judas song will make you satanic?

Where is reason in justfying that the young people should not watch and hear her? Hello? Have you heard of internet, of youtube? If your daughter goes and chooses to follow the Lady, don't blame the Gaga, blame yourself who raised her.

I happened to be lucky enough to watch her concert on its first day here in Manila. Up close, I saw the fire in her, the passion I never knew before. To say that she is fabulous is a gross understatement. The sold-out concert was an ultimate experience. Her audience was devoted, and like her, was brave and daring. What drew them to Lady Gaga was her fab persona, her fearlessness to express herself. She is bold, captivating, defiant. She was aware of the boycott and addressed those concerned, "I am not a creature of your government, Manila!" That sent goose bumps all over.

For the Lady, it’s all about you, yourself and living it. "People need to be free, to be who they are." And that's enough inspiration for her fans whom she calls her Little Monsters.

To the skeptics, we hope you open that box - behind Lady Gaga's outrageous image is a person who cares about the world, the youth. For the Gaga, it’s not always about the music. It’s all about you - us. Our insecurities and fears hold us back, but she says that we should embrace it all. No escape, no excuse. Because rightly or wrongly, like it or not - we were born this way.

It seems that a network wants to put in check the social media activities of its heads. Last week, a department head (DH) unleashed a series of malicious statements addressed to one of his followers regarding one of the network’s talents (NT). The series of tweets alluded to the alleged foul-smelling secrets of NT that DH threatened to reveal because the follower seemed to be a fan of NT. Of course, the series of threatening tweets reached the mother of NT. Immediately, the mother retaliated with her own statements and challenged DH to reveal what he threatened to expose. The mother did not stop there, for she even sent text messages to the executives of DH’s network.

If DH thought he could get away with what he did over social media, he was wrong. DH was called by the executives of his network and was given a dressing down. He was reprimanded for his unbecoming behavior that was not worthy of the network’s reputation. Instead of protecting the talents of the network, DH even volunteered to destroy one, and publicly at that. The network’s bosses did not at all like DH’s lack of discernment as to how to address properly such statements that pertain to the network’s talents, especially in social media, which can be read and resent to a mass base. What made it worse is that the network received emails demanding the removal of DH, and even threats of unsubscription to their international cable channel because of what DH did.

The relationship of an emerging actor (E) and enticing actress (A) has been relegated in the background in favor of their careers. E has recently landed a role that showcased his dramatic skills. A is being groomed to be the next important actress of their network because she has the looks and the talent.

However, their relationship is indeed against all odds. A’s family does not like E. In a family gathering, her relatives ignored E and moved around like he was not there. This behavior of her family irked A and she reminded them that she was the one bringing in the money and that her relatives do not have money, anyway. Those words earned her a slap from her grandfather.

So, A left home for a short time. Apparently, the family cannot accept the fact that E used to indulge in prohibited substance. Would E and A end up happily amidst all the blockades in their relationship? Let’s wait and hope for the best.

Major Mistake

During the story conference of this upcoming film, starring a local young (LA) actress and a foreign young actor (FA), held in a nearby country, LA was noticeable doing everything to catch FA's attention. The whole time, her voice was unusually high, squealing with delight and evidently flirting with FA.

The foreign management of FA did not like the obvious display of excited affection being thrown by LA. They talked among themselves in their language as to how comedic the whole thing was to them. What worried the foreigners were the rumors of LA flirting with her leading men and her not-so-good reputation.

Worse, the foreign management was not impressed that the storycon was held at a cheap hotel in their country. The choice of venue gave the impression that they may have made a mistake in choosing to work with this local film outfit. They questioned why a kind of big budgeted production held its launch in a such a venue. Another concern is the lack of buzz when the project was formally announced. It now worries them how this will affect the international image of the actor that is prized highly in their country.

Incidentally, adding to the rumors of LA’s flirty nature with local actors is the story of her brief involvement with a committed hunk actor (CH). While they were doing an indie film, CH brought LA to his house in a nearby province. Unfortunately, the girlfriend caught them. As usual, the girlfriend forgave CH. LA was dating someone then, but he was clueless of the side affairs of LA.

Now, should the film management of FA have reason to worry? Will LA behave during their filming of the movie?

Furious Girl

Female host became furious host (FH) when she was at Greenbelt 5 last night. Wearing a tight white outfit, FH was seen stepping out of the elevator with a moreno hunk, who was wearing a blue shade of shirt. Of course, FH caught the attention of onlookers because she was in a provocative outfit. Other than that, FH is very visible on primetime and cable TV. She's heard and watched over the radio station of the network on weekends, and she has a very active social networking account. However, the onlookers felt something was wrong as the attention of FH was solely for her companion, and they felt the negative energy.

Her fury continued. At the parking lot, witnesses saw FH scream her lungs out at the moreno hunk. It did not stop there. Screaming was not enough! In front of an SUV, FH was so enraged that she threw her red bag at the hunk.

What did the moreno hunk do to make FH furious? Is this a case of “Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned,” as the cliché goes? Was she so mad that she had to express herself with no regard of being in a public place, and within the sight of the public at that?

Although FH might defend herself by saying that she was only behaving as a normal human being would in a fit of rage, she has to remember that she was still in a public place, (and in sight of CCTV cameras). More than that, as a celebrity, it falls on her to behave in the decorum worthy of the principles of the network she serves. Does FH need to be reminded that as a public figure, her every behavior catches the attention of people? If FH loves her job and her network, then she has to learn to exert control. Striking out twice in such a short span is not good for her image and the network.

Giving Too Much Attitude

Constant reinvention is the key to generating and keeping the interest of the public in a performer. In addition, movement, whether it refers to having a new show or leaving the existing one, creates an opportunity for another to shine more. When a young singer (YS) was given her own show, her leaving created a gap in a once-a-week variety show. Now, a relative of another female singer (FS) saw this gap as an excuse to send feelers of how important FS is to the show despite her limited exposure. The relative involved herself in choosing the song, and even at some point, measuring the length of the lyrics for FS. Of course, these actions made life a bit difficult for the production.

One time, on the eve of a show, after everything has been planned for the numbers of FS, the production got word that FS cancelled. What made the situation worse was that the production people had to find a way to fill the slots vacated by the sudden cancellation. Acknowledging its contract of obligation to FS, the management of the show had to sweet-talk FS and company as to how they can improve the show. To cut short the story, FS and her team demanded she be given her own segment.

Weeks before the launching of the segment, the production people prepared their concept, the segment title, and the songs for FS. After they presented their plan, the team of FS rejected their ideas. Rather than create an issue, the slighted creative team relented to the suggested segment title, the concept, and the song to be presented by FS.
