Between Money and Integrity

Sometime ago, Celebrity Starlet (CS) finally received the break that she and her fans were waiting for. After entering the industry a few years before, the project aimed at making CS into a household name and much pressure was on her shoulders. CS needed to prove she has the makings of a viable talent and her success would mean elevating her family’s lifestyle. CS relies on her career to help out her family who is slowly tasting the good that life could offer. Thus, she will do what she could to make it even if it means a surgery or two for physical enhancements to make her look more attractive.
The project was a hit and CS thought everything would go well. Unfortunately, she woke up to the reality that any talent is only as good as his/her last project. Failed personal circumstances that were hinted in social media posts did not even boost her stock. Lucky for CS, Semi-retired Actor (SA) became her knight in shining armor, but, as always, nothing comes free.
With no regular project on hand and bills to pay, SA’s arrival was such good timing. When her family realized that something was happening between CS and SA, all they could do was to welcome him. Family members kept their eyes blind, ears deaf, and mouths shut. They do not want to return to being poor anymore. The mistake of CS was to splurge at that time when her project was doing well and she missed out on saving for the rainy days.
SA may be in and out of showbiz, but he happens to be a married man, whose marriage is one of the most admired. After all, his wife dropped out of the limelight to ensure she would raise a family worthy of his name. However, she was boring in bed and SA found the youthful CS a good catch. Still, his affairs have to be discrete, as he’s afraid to lose his wife.
Just as when things were settling down, the risky business of CS and SA was sniffed out by a staff of a network. Handlers confronted CS immediately and she denied the story, of course. So, this time, CS used her head and stopped seeing SA, as she might lose everything if she continues her dangerous liaison. For now, CS has to request if she could have projects from her management, as missing out on her payments might mean losing the material possessions she has started to acquire.

Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Secretary Silvestre Bello said on Friday the Occupational Safety and Health Center (OSHC) is looking into the accident involving the late veteran actor Eddie Garcia during a filming of a television show early this month.
“It is not the DOLE that will investigate but the Occupational Safety and Health Center, executive director Noel Binag. It's ongoing," he said in an interview at the wake of the 90-year-old movie and television personality in Taguig City.
The DOLE chief has directed the OSHC to find out if there is compliance on OSH rules and standards.
“Need bigyan value workplace ng workers, napakahalaga ‘yun (There's a need to give value workplace of workers, that's very important),” he said.
The former 1-BAP party-list lawmaker said he sponsored a resolution in Congress to recognize Garcia in 2015.
“I sponsored a resolution recognizing the work of Eddie Garcia as a reputable movie actor. He’s one actor who’s very famous, was never involved in any scandal unlike some. He was given recognition by Congress,” he added.
On June 8, Garcia was shooting a scene for TV series in Tondo, Manila when he reportedly tripped on cable wires, causing him to fall.
He was in a coma for nearly two weeks and died on June 20.
The television network said it is investigating the absence of a medical team when the accident happened.
In 2018, President Duterte signed the OSH Law, which ensures a safe and healthful workplace for workers by affording them full protection against all hazards at work.
The law provides that any person who manages, controls, or supervises the work is compelled to ensure that the place of employment is safe for workers, and should be free from hazardous conditions likely to cause death, illness, or physical harm to workers.
The Occupational Safety and Health Standards was formulated in 1978 and was revised in 1989. It was created in compliance with the constitutional mandate to safeguard the worker’s social and economic well-being as well as his physical safety and health. (PNA)
