Gerald Anderson and Maricel Soriano - Who will be In or Out?

Taping for a soon-to-be released teleserye had a major conflict between two of its actors long before it sees air on the boob tube.

"Bukas Na Lang Kita Mamahalin" lead stars Gerald Anderson and Maricel Soriano had problems on the set during the taping of the said teleserye last week. On their scene together, it was alleged that Gerald had a hard time getting the right acting required of him by the director. As a consequence, said scene had to be re-shoot over and over again, something that pissed off  Maricel. The multi-awarded actress, couldn't help herself and blew her top. She allegedly shouted at her co-star, blaming Gerald for the delays. She was so emotional that she walked out of the set soon after. Gerald tried to pacify her and made amends but the actress was inconsolable. She left, making Gerald feel so dejected and disheartened. There are talks that the actor now refuses to do the project with her.

As of this writing, there is no final word yet from ABS-CBN as to the fate of one of their newest and most- awaited teleseryes this January.

Both Gerald and Maricel are contract stars of ABS-CBN, with Gerald under Star Magic and Maricel with Viva management.

Inquirer Entertainment: Filipino columnist’s interview with Anne Hathaway draws mixed reactions online

MANILA, Philippines—Like wildfire, the recent “controversial” interview of Filipino entertainment editor-journalist Ricky Lo with “Les Miserables” female lead, Anne Hathaway that has been circulating on social networking sites drew mixed reactions among netizens and local celebrities.

Though Hathaway was seen smiling and laughing all throughout, she appeared irritated by a few questions of the veteran show-biz columnist.

Lo asked how did she lose weight for the role and gain it back again, Hathaway declined to answer, saying it’s something personal.

Hathaway plays Fantine, the ill-fated character of a poor, pretty innocent woman who becomes a prostitute.

Hathaway’s mother Kathleen Ann “Kate” McCauley played the role in the original “Les Miserables” cast that was toured in the United States. Hathaway cited in several interviews how she learned a lot from her mom.

Lo asked if Hathaway got some pointers from her mother, she answered with a straight “No.”

When Lo asked her how she was able to play the role of a poor woman when she is “perceived to have lived a life of luxury and privilege,” Hathaway declined again, citing it’s “very personal.”

The role was also played by Lea Salonga in 2010 for the 25th Anniversary of “Les Miserables”.

In the interview, Lo showed an SMS from Salonga that apparently said something about Salonga’s eagerness to see the movie. Hathaway reacted positively, seemingly flattered and was all smiles saying, “I adore her.”

But when Lo asked for a message to Salonga, “who is looking forward to meet you in person” Hathaway declined again, saying, “We’ve already talk about that.”

At the end of the more than four-minute interview, Lo asked Hathaway to invite her Filipino fans to see the movie.
The still-smiling Hathaway said, “Why don’t you invite them, they’d rather hear it from you.”

While many netizens lambast Lo for what they described as a rather “disgraceful interview” with general questions that seemed more appropriate to lesser-known celebrities, Lo’s colleagues in the industry defended him, citing his long stint in entertainment journalism.

Lo has been entertainment editor and columnist of a national newspaper for decades. He is also co-host of “Startalk,” a Saturday entertainment talk show on GMA7, on which his live interviews are usually shown.

Jim Paredes in a Facebook thread described the interview as “a big cultural gap.”

Ruffa Gutierrez in her Twitter account posted the link, saying “She (Hathaway) suddenly switched to ‘bitchiness’.”

A theater actor posted: “When you interview an actor, most especially someone really big, you ask about the craft, the production process. Don’t ask personal questions, unless you are Oprah. Avoid intrigues. And most especially, it is not a time to flaunt who you ‘know’ and compare them with the subject. Otherwise, the interview will turn out bad. Really bad. Even embarrassing.”

Earlier links to the said interview have been deleted though more have been posted again with some parodies highlighting Lo’s “gaffes.”

Assassination Attempt on Bulgarian Opposition Leader Ahmed Dogan

A man jumped on stage and pointed a gun at the leader of Bulgaria's ethnic Turkish party before security guards wrestled him to the ground during a televised conference on Saturday.

Ahmed Dogan, the long-time leader of the Movement for Rights and Freedoms (MRF) escaped unscathed, and it was not immediately clear why the attacker had targeted him at the party congress in downtown Sofia.

Television footage showed the man jumping out of the audience and interrupting a speech by 58-year-old Dogan, who has led the party for almost a quarter of a century. Security guards were seen beating and kicking the attacker.

"Ahmed Dogan is in good health. Everything is under control," MRF official Ceyhan Ibryamov told journalists.

Police said they had arrested a 25-year-old man from the Black Sea town of Burgas who was also carrying two knives.

The liberal MRF party represents ethnic Turks and other Muslims who make up about 12 percent of Bulgaria's 7.3 million-strong population.

Dogan is seen as one of Balkan country's most influential political figures. The MRF was a junior partner in the previous Socialist-led cabinet.

In 1996, former Prime Minister Andrei Lukanov was found shot dead near his home in Sofia, though attacks on politicians are rare.

Generating Their Own Interest

With technology and the popularity of social networking, fans are able to create sites to show their appreciation (or the opposite) for the shows they love or for their idols. Some fans even write fan fiction to depict their own views on how stories should run in their favorite tv programs. Some fans create artwork or photo collages in tribute to their idols.

Still, some fans create parallel or parody accounts of famous celebrities. Sadly, these accounts are often ways for anonymous people to release harsh criticism. Of course, some people are gullible enough to believe that the parallel accounts are the real accounts of the celebrities.

However, the most common social network tributes to a performer are fan sites. Fans can be so overwhelmed that they make unauthorized or sometimes with permission accounts designed to help in the career of their objects of affection. These sites update the public on the lives of the stars. As a marketing tool, generating interest via cyberspace or IT is important for this generation of talents and performers.

The problem is what if no fan actually shows interest in making a tribute FB page or even a social network account for a talent. What should talents do? Well, they make their own sites and pass it on as having been made by their fans. Allegedly, two female talents who shuttle from magazine covers to TV/movie appearances have taken matters in their own hands to generate fan interest via the web. Both sites have the same first two words and differ only in the third word in the title of their sites. Thus, FT 1 and FT2 are branded “famewhores” in their ways of achieving their 15 minutes of fame. By the way, FT1 has the “what you see is what you get” attitude, while FT2 seems to be the opposite. FT2 has that meek look in contrast to the dominating look of FT1, but be careful, FT2 has her feisty ways. As we have a saying in Filipino, “nasa loob ang kulo.”

The Reason Behind His Attachment

Television personality (TP) has been with the industry for several decades. Starting with menial jobs, TP worked hard to attain his present status, people from all walks of life look up to him for advice and as a role model. TP is dedicated to his family, career, and advocacy. Thus, it is not a surprise that he is one of the more credible celebrities.

However, it seems that TP has an alleged special relationship with a professional athlete (PA). A teammate who accompanied PA, saw PA and TP hugged and kissed, and afterwards, TP allegedly handed PA cash. This scene is surprising and shocking at the same time. What could be the motive of PA? Can it be money despite that PA is earning big bucks from his chosen field? Could it be love?

PA has a “happy” marriage in the eyes of the public, while TP is involved in a long-time relationship. Is PA just the flavor of the month, or is there really something deeper? Perhaps, TP is just really being compassionate and helpful?

Nothing is surprising in show business, anyway. The question is how the wife of PA will react to this news that she might be sharing her husband with TP. How will her parents react? Can you guess who TP and PA, the wife?
