With technology support from GMA New Media, Inc. (GMA NMI), the Network’s forerunner in technology, real-time election results will be published in partnership with the COMELEC, as soon as data is available on the COMELEC media server. GMA's election livestream is also accessible via GMA News Online.

Digital Initiatives

GMA Integrated News’ Social Media Team further strengthens its public service through innovative digital initiatives, starting with the launch of #Eleksyonaryo: The Dapat Totoo Digital Exclusives, which now has over 11 million views. Divided into three engaging segments, it features mini-PSAs and Q&As using Gen Z terms to explain electoral concepts, man-on-the-street interviews capturing voters' voices, and an Ask-Me-Anything session with COMELEC Chairman George Garcia.

Alongside this, GMA Integrated News reintroduced YouScoop+, its user-generated content platform, allowing viewers to share their stories through photos and videos. The network also hosted the YouScoop+ Bootcamp, where over 100 students from partner schools learned how to monitor social media content, identify trends, verify facts, and assist in running the Digital Action Center (DAC) on Election Day. The DAC, launching for the first time this year, will serve as a hub for voters to submit questions and contribute content, with regional counterparts in Dagupan City, Cebu City, Bacolod City, Iloilo City, Davao City, General Santos City, and Cagayan de Oro City, ensuring nationwide engagement and timely, accurate election coverage.

Repost: Jay-Z Denies SA Allegations of Teen Girl in 2000

A woman who alleges she was sexually assaulted by Sean “Diddy” Combs has amended her lawsuit to include allegations that she was also assaulted by Jay-Z at the same party.

The lawsuit was initially filed against Combs in October, but on Sunday the woman added Shawn Carter, the rapper and businessman known as Jay-Z, as a defendant in the civil lawsuit.

Carter is the first celebrity to be accused of sexual assault in connection to Combs.

In a statement addressed to CNN, Carter called the allegations “so heinous in nature that I implore you to file a criminal complaint, not a civil one!! Whomever would commit such a crime against a minor should be locked away, would you not agree?”

Combs was indicted in September on charges of sex trafficking, racketeering conspiracy and prostitution related charges. He pleaded not guilty to the charges and has denied all wrongdoing in roughly 30 civil lawsuits that have been filed against him.

The woman, who is identified as a Jane Doe, says she was 13 years old at the time she was allegedly assaulted by Combs and Carter at an after party following the Video Music Awards in 2000. The woman alleges she began to feel woozy after consuming a drink at the party and wandered into a nearby bedroom. The woman alleges Carter raped her first, followed by Combs. The woman says she hit Combs and ran out of the party, according to the amended lawsuit.

Carter was identified in the initial lawsuit as Celebrity A.

News of the lawsuit was first reported by NBC.

According to the lawsuit, Doe’s attorneys reached out to Carter to request “a mediation to resolve this matter.”

“Upon present information and belief, Jay-Z responded to said letter by not only filing an utterly frivolous lawsuit, but by also orchestrating a conspiracy of harassment, bullying and intimidation against Plaintiff’s lawyers, their families, employees and former associates in an attempt to silence Plaintiff from naming Jay-Z herein. This effort was meant to scare Plaintiff and to discredit her counsel. That effort failed. Indeed, Plaintiff chose to file this amendment as a result of the egregious conduct perpetuated by Carter,” according to the lawsuit.

In his response sent to CNN on Sunday, which was addressed to Doe’s attorney Tony Buzbee, Carter called the mediation request a “blackmail attempt.” Carter also said this lawyer, “who I have done a bit of research on, seems to have a pattern of these type of theatrics!”

In a statement from Houston-based Buzbee, he wrote, “The pleading speaks for itself. This is a very serious matter that will be litigated in court.”

Carter added in his statement that his “only heartbreak” is for his family: “My wife and I will have to sit our children down, one of whom is at the age where her friends will surely see the press and ask questions about the nature of these claims, and explain the cruelty and greed of people. I mourn yet another loss of innocence. Children should not have to endure such at their young age.”

CNN has also reached out to Jay-Z’s wife Beyoncé Knowles for comment.

CNN reported in November that an anonymous male celebrity filed a lawsuit against the Texas attorney representing the Doe, alleging he was the victim of an extortion scheme.

The celebrity accused Buzbee and his firm of “shamelessly attempting to extort exorbitant sums from him or else publicly file wildly false horrific allegations against him.”

Attorneys for the unnamed celebrity claimed further that Buzbee had “threatened to unleash entirely fabricated and salacious allegations of sexual assault” that included “multiple instances of rape of a minor, both male and female” if their client “refuses to comply with their demands.”

Buzbee denied the extortion claims against him, in an Instagram post in which he wrote that his firm “won’t allow the powerful and their high-dollar lawyers to intimidate or silence sexual assault survivors,” and in a statement to CNN.

“If you are trying to hide your identity and you claim you did nothing wrong, doesn’t seem very smart to take this approach,” Buzbee told CNN in an email at the time. “We will address it in due course.”

“I have confidence that with full public disclosure all of this will sort itself out,” Buzbee wrote.

On Sunday, Buzbee responded on social media to Carter’s statement, saying that the alleged victim “never demanded a penny from him,” claiming they only sought confidential mediation. Buzbee added, “She is emboldened. I’m very proud of her resolve.”

The Genius of Maja Salvador’s New Ad

“KERATIN PLUS?!?” If you saw the hilarious digital commercial making its rounds on the internet, I’m certain you heard Maja Salvador’s voice reading that line. Making an “ad you can hear,” Keratin Plus, a daily hair treatment product, recently launched a digital commercial with their newest endorser, celebrity actress and soon-to-be-mom, Maja Salvador.

The 15-second video opens with Maja’s gorgeous profile saying, “I feel beautiful because I treat my hair with keratin… KERATIN???” as she finger combs through her long, luscious hair. Dubbed the “Queen of Repeating Words”, the creatives behind this ad perfectly matched Maja’s natural quirk to the simple yet brilliant script.

But that’s not all there is to it. The “repeating words syndrome” is a distinctly Pinoy take on hifalutin words or sudden English speak. It’s a verbal mannerism that is widespread among Millennials and Gen Z, to soften the seriousness of a conversation, or to make fun of one’s self. It’s like an inside joke among fellow Pinoys and is translated as the “caps lock patanong culture” among younger netizens. Some go as far as gatekeeping the meme when others can’t seem to understand its context, but that’s what makes it funnier. The “dogshow humor” of the ad instantly caught its audience, trending among Facebook Community Groups and social media platforms. Some even claim it’s the official meme of 2024.

That’s easy, given the convenience of sharing online. The true success of the ad, however, is measured by how some people went out of their way to hunt for the product themselves. “The Living Meme,” as some netizens call it, has an effect on consumers, making them flock to their nearby groceries and sari sari stores to check out the Keratin Plus hair treatments and shampoos.

Check out these TikTokers proving that the ad is not just funny but highly effective, too:

Under the username @gaiapoly with over 500k followers and 22.1M likes, the female TikToker is seen walking inside a local grocery with her young nephew, Martin, who mimicked the commercial by repeating some of her words as she talks to the camera, vlogging their trip. “Kaloka ‘yung effect ni Ms. Maja Salvador sa pamangkin ko. Mapapa-Keratin Plus ka na lang talaga, bhie,” she said on her caption. They even inserted parts of the commercial on the TikTok video to show how they’re copying Maja’s lines.

Another result of the ad is how it has proven to have brand recall, as TikToker, Martin Leonard Chua who has 165k followers and over 5.5M likes, recorded his own “Keratin Plus moment” upon seeing the product while he did his personal grocery errands. “I’m seeing a live Twitter meme right now,” he shared, as he held up a bottle of Keratin Plus shampoo. “Keratin???,” he jokingly said, in the same manner Maja did in the commercial. “Ang funny ni Maja Salvador! [...] I’m so happy na nakita ko siya in person (pertaining to the product).”

As more people discover the brand through the entertaining advertisement, many share their positive reviews on these videos’ comments section.

There is power in advertising, yes—the wittier, the better. But what makes it exponentially powerful that captures loyal consumers is the truth about their claims, and this is something that users can testify about Keratin Plus, again and again.

Let's Volt In! Much Awaited Saga of “Voltes V: Legacy” Makes World Premiere on GMA Network

Get ready to volt in as GMA Network proudly presents the most epic primetime series to  land on Philippine TV via “Voltes V: Legacy.”

After four years in the making, the first-ever live-action adaptation of the phenomenal  Japanese ‘70s anime ‘Voltes V’ finally makes its highly-anticipated premiere on GMA  Telebabad this May 8.

The country’s biggest series this 2023 is headlined by no less than five of Sparkle’s  sought-after artists: Kapuso Ultimate Heartthrob Miguel Tanfelix as Steve Armstrong,  Ysabel Ortega as Jamie Robinson, Matt Lozano as Big Bert Armstrong, Radson  Flores as Mark Gordon, and Raphael Landicho as Little Jon Armstrong.

“Voltes V: Legacy” follows the story of three brothers – Steve, Big Bert, and Little Jon  and their friends Jamie and Mark – as they fight together the evil Boazanian forces who  plan to invade Earth and launch their beast fighters all over the world.

Miguel highlights why the spin-off will be special not only to the OG fans, but also to the  new generation, “Gusto naming ma-experience ng Gen Z ang naramdaman noon ng mga  magulang nila nung kabataan nila. ‘Yung feeling na uuwi ka galing school tapos mahu hook ka sa kuwento ng magkakaibigan at pamilya. Gusto naming ipa-feel sa kanila ‘yung  tuwa, lungkot, excitement, takot at lahat ng emosyon.”

Moreover, Ysabel boasts about the world-class standard of their show, “We’re all fans of  Hollywood movies na high quality ang graphics and “Voltes V: Legacy” is like that. Except  the fact that it’s made entirely in the Philippines. It’s something to be proud of and curious  about. At the same time, it’s a story of our age and kung ano ang mga pinagdadaanan  nila in everyday life.”

Matt, on the other hand, recounts the early days of their taping and how their friendship  eventually evolved, “This is my first lead role kaya grabe ang kaba ko nung una. Pero  sobrang masaya ako kasi nandiyan ‘yung co-actors ko at si Direk Mark Reyes para mag-

guide. Minsan naiisip ko parang magkakapatid na talaga kami, parang totoong pamilya  at ‘yun ang best part ng show.”

Radson also admits that he was pressured to star in this huge project, “Proud po talaga  ako nung nakuha ko ang role ni Mark Gordon. Bilang newbie actor, mahirap makakuha  ng project and mahirap siyang i-sustain. So may halo ring luck and hardwork na nakuha  ko ang role. Kaya kahit anong mangyari, lagi kong ipagmamalaki na naging part ako ng  project na ito.”

Meanwhile, Raphael shares how much he can relate to his character as Little Jon, “Marami  po kaming similarities like pagiging bibo, makulit, mahilig sa gadgets at higit po sa lahat,  ‘yung pagiging mapagmahal sa magulang. Kailangan po itong panoorin ng kabataan dahil  tungkol ito sa importance ng family. It will also teach everyone to be brave, strong,  independent, matured, and kind.”

“Voltes V: Legacy” is touted to be the Network’s most expensive and biggest TV  production to date. That’s why acclaimed director Mark Reyes emphasizes that the  series is an epitome of Pinoy pride, “Close to 1,000 people ang nagtulungan para malikha  itong buong series in a span of 3 to 4 years. It was a long, complex, pandemic-stricken  challenge for everyone involved. Pero I can proudly say that the whole team succeeded  with a 100% Pinoy-made production that will entertain audiences not only locally, but  also globally.”

The latest primetime masterpiece of GMA Entertainment Group boasts of a casting coup  with the special participation of Kapuso Drama King Dennis Trillo as Ned Armstrong,  the father of the three Armstrong brothers; Max Collins as Rozalia, a humanoid alien  and the first wife of Ned; and Carla Abellana as Mary Ann Armstrong, Ned’s wife from  planet Earth who will help him in creating Voltes V.

Joining the ensemble cast are Gabby Eigenmann as Commander Robinson, the father  of Jamie and the co-designer of Voltes V; and Albert Martinez as Dr. Smith, a colleague  of Dr. Armstrong who will assist in the development of Voltes V.

Set to breathe life to the characters of the main antagonists are Martin del Rosario as  Zardoz, the Prince of Boazanian Empire who wishes to conquer Earth; Liezel Lopez as  Zandra, the unrequited lover of Zardoz; Epy Quizon as Zuhl, the scientist who will invent  the Anti-Super Electromagnetic Device to destroy Voltes V; Carlo Gonzales as Draco,  the three-horned general sent to Earth with Zardoz and Zandra.

Adding thrill to the series are the other Boazanian forces: Chanda Romero as Contessa;  Christian Vasquez as Emperor Zambojil; Ryan Eigenmann as Barron Zander; Dion  Ignacio as Obgen; Carlos Siguion-Reyna as Emperor; Bibeth Orteza as Fadsa; Juan  Rodrigo as Baden; Mike Lloren as General Watson; Jamie Wilson as Garth; Brent  Valdez as Magus; Nico Antonio as Oslak; Khaine Dela Cruz as young Zardoz.

Completing the powerhouse cast are the members of Camp Big Falcon: Neil Ryan Sese  as Dr. Hook, Elle Villanueva as Eva; Crystal Paras as Judy; Jamir Zabarte as Tomas;  Kyle Ocampo as Amira; Migs Villasis as Apable; Kimson Tan as Tadao; Sophia  Senoron as Ally; Julia Pascual as Anna; Dave Duque as PJ; Joaquin Manansala as  Sergeant Major Edwards; Angela Alarcon as Chief Kelly; Marx Topacio as Master  Chief; Kokoy de Santos as Harvey Perez; Sharmaine Arnaiz as Luisa; Jon Lucas as  R.S. Ignacio; Marinella Sheen Del Pilar as Dr. Alonzo; JR Calinoc as EDF soldier;  Seth dela Cruz as young Steve; Steven Canja as young Big Bert.

Meanwhile, Asia's Limitless Star Julie Anne San Jose was tapped to sing the official  Japanese theme song of “Voltes V: Legacy.”

The live action series is produced by GMA Network in partnership with Toei Company,  Ltd. and Telesuccess Productions Inc.

Acclaimed local animators from GMA’s Post Video Graphics and Audio team and  Riot Inc. handled the program’s heavy CGI and other visual effects.

“Voltes V: Legacy” is produced by the award-winning GMA Entertainment Group headed  by Senior Vice President Lilybeth G. Rasonable; Vice President for Drama Cheryl  Ching-Sy; Assistant Vice President for Drama Helen Rose Sese; and Executive  Producer Darling Pulido-Torres.

The highly-talented creative team behind this world-class live action adaptation is  composed of Creative Director Aloy Adlawan; Content Development Consultant Ricky  Lee; Senior Creative Consultant RJ Nuevas; Creative Consultant Denoy Navarro Punio; Head Writer Suzette Doctolero; and Writers/Brainstormers Liberty Trinidad Villaroman, Jake Somera, and Loi Argel Nova.

Join the five heroes and their machines in “Voltes V: Legacy” weeknights at 8:00 p.m. on  GMA Telebabad and at 9:40 p.m. on GTV.

Viewers abroad can also catch the program via GMA Pinoy TV. For more stories about  the Kapuso Network, visit www.GMANetwork.com

PMPC Reveals Special Award Winners and Star Awards for TV Nominees

Image courtesy of Facebook: Philippine Movie Press Club - PMPC

PMPC stages the 35th Star Awards for TV on January 28 at Winford Manila Hotel
In recent years, especially at the height of the pandemic, people depend on television for entertainment, news, education, culture, weather, sports — and what have you. Indeed, the boob tube is a powerful tool and is considered the main source of information for people, because it enables us to receive the latest news from all over the world.

Further, we also get entertained by it and get rid of boredom. Today, more than ever, various TV programs pose a significant influence on modern culture and become tools for sharing information, ideas, personal messages, and other content.

This is why the Philippine Movie Press Club, Inc. (PMPC), over the years, has become a staunch supporter of the men and women behind these TV programs by honoring them for the job well done.
This year, the 35th Star Awards for Television is set to happen on January 28, 2023 (Sat.), 6:00 pm, at Winford Manila Resort and Casino (Sta Cruz, Manila).

TV host-turned-politician Senator Raffy Tulfo and former actress Connie Angeles will lead this year’s honorees as recipients of the Excellence in Broadcasting Lifetime Achievement Award and the Ading Fernando Lifetime Achievement Award, respectively.

The veteran broadcast journalist, commentator and multi-media personality started out in 1993. His public service programs on radio, television, and YouTube were aired until his election as senator of the Philippines in the 2022 national election.

Meanwhile, Ms. Angeles started out as a child actress and metamorphosed into a public service host and eventually a public servant in the 1990s. Currently, she is the Senior Assistant Vice President and Executive Director for Health for SM Foundation, Inc.

Adding glitter to the night would be the presence of showbiz’s hottest tandems -- Donny Pangilinan and Belle Mariano and Kelvin Miranda and Mikee Quintos – who shall receive the German Moreno Power Tandem of the Year.

The 35th Star Awards edition is led by the newly elected PMPC President Fernan de Guzman and his team. On hand to support the PMPC for this exciting awards night is JAMSAP Entertainment Corporation led by Jojo Flores and Maricar Moina. Frank Lloyd Mamaril directs the show.

'Maya' By Shanti Dope Salutes All The Youth Eager to Hustle for Success

Today, Shanti Dope has dropped an astounding new single titled “Maya”, a song written with the goal of becoming a strong anthem for the new generation in mind.

Clocking in just a little over three minutes, “Maya”, is an exuberating rap track with a hypnotizing hook that only the young Rap Phenom along with producer Lester Paul “Klumcee” Vaño can deliver.

It is in fact Shanti Dope’s tribute to his generation: a new class of Filipinos breaking barriers, conventions, and what it takes to be who they want to be. It is an anthem of defiance, where each “Ey, kamusta?” is met with the assurance that Shanti — and all who share his relentless spirit — can only go bigger, higher, and stronger.

The bravely-executed hip-hop masterpiece song was inspired by today’s youth, who’s never shy to hustle and to be much more progressive and liberal in their own little ways. Just like the bird “Maya” which is of course ubiquitous here in the Philippines, the song firmly believes that the youth of today have unrelenting determination to soar higher and value their freedom.

The infectious song details how Millennials and Generation Z alike can stand out and prosper in life since they prove to be the more enlightened and free-thinking generations compared to the older ones. Its lyrics are direct to the point and technically brilliant, reminding listeners that we should not doubt the capabilities of the young ones. We should feel hopeful and root for them instead because they have lots of things to prove, especially in the face of adversity.

Shanti Dope and the rest of his crew knew that they wanted the music video to be a no-brainer interpretation of the whole idea of the song. Better watch out for it soon.

It doesn’t hurt that its triumphant horns, memorable hook, and Shanti’s signature flow make “Maya” a banger of a song that can rock a sold-out stadium or the next big revolution happening in the streets.

You can now stream “Maya” on your favorite digital streaming platforms right now!

Five Female Superstars Who are Dominating Today’s Music Scene

March may have ended, but we’re not done celebrating Women’s History Month just yet! We’re putting the focus on some of our favorite superstars – multifaceted women who are making waves in and out of the music industry.

These women continue to elevate their respective genres and empower others to express themselves, all while exploring different aspects of their artistry. Read on to discover if your favorite artist made the cut, and what songs of theirs you can’t miss!

Dua Lipa

Dua Lipa is an artist that needs no introduction. This pop superstar started her career by posting song covers on YouTube, but what really propelled her into the spotlight was her hit song “New Rules.” From then on, it was just success after success for Dua, and the three-time Grammy Award winner is now currently on the US leg of her Future Nostalgia tour.

To share more about her experiences and create stronger connections with her fans, Dua also recently launched Service95. This weekly newsletter serves up a curation of recommendations, stories, and conversations that readers won’t see or read anywhere else. Not long after, she launched her podcast called Dua Lipa: At Your Service, where she and several podcast guests discuss relevant topics such as the importance of responsible storytelling and women supporting women.

Songs you can’t miss: We’re pretty sure you’ve listened to “Levitating” a handful of times (and we can’t blame you), but another fun and upbeat song to stream is Dua’s latest release – “Sweetest Pie” with Megan Thee Stallion.

Bella Poarch

Anyone who’s on TikTok is bound to know Bella Poarch. This pure Filipina rose to internet stardom after a video of her lip-syncing became viral in August 2020, getting more than 50 million likes. What eventually followed was her rise to becoming the #1 most followed Asian on TikTok worldwide! Soon, all eyes were on the 25-year-old star, and she proved not long after that her talents went beyond making TikTok videos.

In 2021, Bella released her first single called “Build a Bitch.” It became a global success, with its music video getting nearly 400 million views. This is no surprise, as the song is catchy, fresh, and calls out the unrealistic standards that women are told they must live up to. It’s clear that Bella uses her music not only to entertain, but also to go against problematic ideologies in today’s society.

Songs you can’t miss: “Build a Bitch” is a must-listen, but if you want the perfect blend of haunting and upbeat, check out her song with Sub Urban titled “Inferno.”

Saweetie

One female rap star who’s made a name for herself in recent years is Saweetie. The Grammy-nominated artist started writing rap music in her early teens, and has pursued her passion for it since then. From uploading a now-viral freestyle video on Instagram to creating countless hit songs like “ICY GRL,” “High Maintenance,” and “My Type,” Saweetie is undoubtedly a force to be reckoned with.

Outside of music, she released an ICY jewelry line and collaborated with UK-based fashion retailer PrettyLittleThings for her very own collection. Hard work and independence have obviously always been in Saweetie’s blood, something that her Filipino-American family taught her at an early age. She’s proof that working for what you want pays off, and we are here for it!

Songs you can’t miss: If you’re looking for a song to hype you up and get you dancing, then “Best Friend” featuring Doja Cat is the go-to. Looking for something more sultry and sensual? Then check out Saweetie’s new breezy single called “Closer” featuring H.E.R.

GAYLE

Unfiltered, honest, and genuine – these are some words that describe chart-topping pop singer GAYLE. Much like Bella Poarch, this Gen-Z artist blew up on TikTok after sharing her hit song “abcdefu” on the platform. Since then, she’s been receiving much deserved attention and acclaim, whether it’s being part of Billboard’s 21 under 21: The Ones To Watch or being a guest performer on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.

GAYLE recently released her debut EP “a study of the human experience volume one,” which touches on her insecurities, desires, and raw emotions. Her relatable and nuanced songs embrace vulnerability, while also empowering others to be unapologetic about their feelings.

Songs you can’t miss: If you loved “abcdefu,” then you’ll love the equally catchy “luv starved.”

Avril Lavigne

Rounding up this list is none other than pop-punk princess Avril Lavigne. The multi-platinum singer recently released her highly anticipated album “Love Sux,” sending fans into a frenzy. The album was well received, with a number of critics praising Avril for sticking to her nostalgic pop-punk sound while making sure it’s current and in the now.

Avril is set to go on her Bite Me 2022 Canada Tour this coming May, and will be part of several concerts and music festivals for the rest of the year. As a trailblazer in her genre and in the industry in general, she continues to inspire fellow artists to stay authentic to their true selves as they work on their craft.

Songs you can’t miss: If you want to listen to songs that are reminiscent of Avril’s past hits, then give “Bite Me” and “Love It When You Hate Me” a try.

We’ve compiled all the songs you can’t miss from these artists onto one playlist! Listen to them here.
