Trouble in Paradise

Endorsements come to this couple a plenty. The image exuded by this couple is impeccable. From the moment, Partner One (PO) expressed interest in Partner Two (PT), the fans cheered them on. PO and PT were both successful in their fields and their match seemed to be made in heaven.

Though red flags allegedly showed early in their relationship, such as temper getting the best out of certain situations, these moments ended in apologies with PO promising to do better and give PT a good life. PO kept his promise as far as what social media allows the public to see.

PO and PT grew into their relationship and fans remained optimistic that PT made the right choice in settling down with PO. Both were present in family reunions. Both brought fans to their travels to see they were enjoying time with each other. Fans saw PO when PT was honoring her own commitments. Those moments showed how much he supported her when it was her moment to shine.

However, rumors are saying that despite the silence in their relationship, things are not what they seemed. PO and PT are never on top of the power couple separation rumor. Perhaps, they will never be at this time given that their brands will not like the negative publicity that breakups bring. Will PT suffer in silence and continue with their fairytale love story?

‘Part of me likes appearing 'normal' around others - at least when I'm capable of doing so. When I'm around my friends and I pretend to be OK, it's almost like I can fool myself into believing that I actually am during that time.' — Anonymous

Hot! Hot! Hot!

The rumor mill is going crazy with the latest scoop involving the love lives of two known personalities. The story is quite controversial and fans of the actor will be shocked once details of this gossip emerges. Here it goes…Hot Actor (HA) is rumored to be the latest in the list of boy toys of Influential Personality (IP). IP cannot be blamed as HA is very attractive given his looks and beautiful face. HA has played many roles on the small and big screen. As his acting skills were noticed, the management gave him challenging projects. His performance proved the hunch of the bosses that HA can be the next lead actor. Be it drama or action, lead or villain, HA was sure to deliver.

Meanwhile, IP has always been controversial and has earned his reputation with his being vocal about issues. IP, nonetheless, knows how to play his cards, which could be the reason his alleged preference has long been hidden from the mainstream.

The arrangement comes at an expense, though. HA is a family man with a beautiful family. His marital status is of public knowledge and the current state of the family home seems to be the usual amidst the rumor between him and IP.

The Viral Twitter Scandal about Getting Catfished is Now a Movie

In 2020, a few weeks after the lockdown, a twitter thread written by Jzan Tero about how she allegedly got catfished by fashion filmmaker Sam Morales went viral. Well, that thread is now the basis of a movie under the direction of Quark Henares.

Marupok A+, starring EJ Jallorina and Maris Racal, is a fictionalized adaptation about what could have occurred in that long con. In the film, hopeless romantic Janzen Torres (EJ Jallorina) finds another chance at love when she matches with the handsome and seemingly perfect Theo Balmaceda (Royce Cabrera) on a dating app. Unfortunately, on the day of their meet-up, Theo ghosts her, leading Janzen into an intricate web of deceit, lies, and catfishing led by sociopathic mastermind Beanie Landridos (Maris Racal).

Directed by Quark Henares, the film premiered at Slamdance in Utah at the beginning of 2023 and has since then traveled in festivals around the world including Hawaii Film Festival, Udine Far East Film Festival in Italy, New York Asian Film Festival and Mostro Endemaris LGBTQ+ Festival in Spain. It was the opening film of last year's Cinemalaya and is finally coming exclusively to Ayala Theaters on July 10.

Marupok A+ Gets an X Rating: AF to A+

Marupok A+ was supposed to have hit the cinemas two weeks before July 10, but the movie got an X rating.

According to director Quark’s tweets, the reason behind the X rating was inherently inane -- they were not allowed to use the acronym “AF” in the original title, "Marupok AF". "What if AF meant 'Always, Forever?'" he jests.

There is also an allusion to a double standard in the Board's review process, not just in Hollywood vs Local Content but also Cishetero vs LBTQIA+ Content. "There is a love scene involving a trans actress in the film with no nudity whatsoever, [and] if we were to compare apples to apples, 'I Am Not Big Bird' (the Enrique Gil sex comedy) had many more non-nude sex scenes, plus BDSM, masturbation, girl getting slapped by pixelated dick, etc. Why couldn't have we been treated the same way?" We heard there is also a masturbation scene featuring Racal, which could have been an additional reason behind the MTRCB's rating.

Since then, the film’s producers decided to change the title to "Marupok A+", but the damage has already been done. Renowned film critic Philbert Dy posted, "The MTRCB is still a wacky organization built on arbitrary decisions that has always ended up crippling Filipino films." While another critic, Ramon de Veyra of the Inquirer, pointed out further proof of the double standard -- "monsters killing people non-stop in a Quiet Place day 1’s MTRCB rating: PG.” Henares ended his rant by pointing out the MTRCB review of his movie included "[they call it] 'a very good movie to be watched by movie goers'. Wish you gave more of them a chance to watch it."

The Uncaring

Image courtesy of Rod Cañalita/ Manila Bulletin

Sadly, her face and onscreen appeal do not match how Famous Entertainer (FE) is. FE started her career gaining admiration for her extraordinary talent. Her performances endeared her to an audience that eventually grew as the public found her performances relatable. Moreover, FE worked hard when she saw a break was being handed to her by a management team.

Years later, FE built her name and a consistent following. Her fans spanned from kids to adults; from happy to sad performances, FE was adored. Without much intention, her private life was needlessly thrown into the public eye. FE had to endure the intrusion of her privacy. Those times were hard as it seemed that her every move was being watched and bashers were ready to pounce. FE managed to turn such circumstances to her advantage.

However, stories from the grapevine have emerged. Allegedly, when FE was upset, makeup artists had to brace themselves for her tantrums that ranged from throwing objects to kicking them. The ordinary workers were of course, no match for someone like FE. In another incident, a network performer requested if FE could sing in a wake as FE was the favorite singer of the deceased. FE responded with an ‘ok’ but no message of sympathy was included. On the day of the event, FE didn’t show up and no prior message was sent to the one who sent the invitation. Although disappointed, nothing could be done as FE showed her lack of care.

‘Just because you don't care about anyone doesn't mean everyone else is like that too!’ ― Rutu Modan

Repost: Cecilia Ongpauco Says She's Not Privy to Private Matters of Chiz Escudero and Heart Evangelista, Will Pray for the Couple

Amid the swirl of speculations about the relationship of Senator Francis Escudero and his wife Heart Evangelista, the actress’s mother, Cecilia Ongpauco, told ABS-CBN News Thursday that she believes the couple will ride out whatever perceived challenges they are going through.

“It’s their private life so I am just praying for them,” said Ongpauco. "I know they will be OK! I’ve known Chiz to be a mature and grounded person that’s why I am happy for my daughter.”

The actress’ mother qualified, however, that she has no knowledge of the issues surrounding the couple’s current relationship. “I have not spoken to anybody,“ she stressed.

In Evangelista’s vlog in June 2021, Ongpauco credited Escudero for supporting her daughter.

“You know what I like about your marriage? You allow each other to grow. You don't stunt her growth,“ she told the couple in a cooking session. "You don't cramp her style. I think that's what's good about their marriage. He allows her to grow, mature on her own.”

Both Escudero and Evangelista have yet to address the issue of marital discord which has been brewing since Evangelista dropped her married name in her social media accounts in early August.

Nonetheless, the actress has kept her status as "wife" in her profile.

Evangelista also recently shared a vlog where she admitted that she’s going through a rough patch in her life.

“I am not gonna deny that I have been going through personal struggles. I feel a lot of pressure in my life. Basically now, I am really in a search for just being happy,” said.

Evangelista nevertheless stressed that she remains “very, very grateful [for] as long as there is life, there is hope.”

Escudero’s senate staff told ABS-CBN News no statement is forthcoming from the lawmaker.

The couple were married in February 2015 after a much-heralded conflict and eventual reconciliation between Escudero and Evangelista’s parents.

Gloc-9 Harks Back To His Legendary Music Career, Drops Latest Single 'Pilak'

“Alam kong bawal tumigil at hindi dapat huminto, ‘Yang ang payo ko sayo para di ka mabigo. Salamat sa lahat ng nag bukas sakin ng pinto. Ok nako sa pilak kahit na di maka ginto”

Universal Records is proud to honor Gloc-9’s astounding impact on the Filipino music scene throughout his illustrious career. This year, the iconic “Makata sa Pinas” marks his 25th year in the industry and as a grand celebration, he is slated to release a brand-new album which will be called “Pilak”.

And this March, Gloc-9 proudly releases the title track of his anniversary album, which encompasses a mixture of powerful storytelling about his unrivaled hustle and learnings for two and a half decades and enchanting hip-hop melodies. With pure emotional honesty, the veteran rapper also thanked his solid supporters over the years who helped him achieve all the accolades and milestones that he reached. There’s no denying that “Pilak” is a song borne from the heart of a very thankful seasoned artist.

His fans will surely enjoy the song’s seamless barrage of metaphors and verses that only he can deliver. As usual, Gloc delivers another poetic masterpiece which was further heightened by the musical arrangement, mixing and mastering by Thyro Alfaro and cover artwork by CLMRarts. The official music video helmed by director Edrex Clyde Sanchez is also out now on YouTube. (WATCH HERE)

The song is a very appreciative circumspect of his artistic journey which started with a dream, and paved by sweat, blood, and tears – all of which led to his eventual day in front of the klieg lights, the accolades, and the many awards that followed. As they say, "success is in the journey" and it truly is.

This gave Gloc-9 a better appreciation of what he has now as he stands front and center with contentment and thankfulness in his heart. A very inspirational message to young artists who are now trekking their own paths to glory.

With “Pilak”, Gloc-9 proves that he still has a lot of gas left in the tank and he’ll surely deliver a bona fide hit if he wants to. You have to start streaming this brand-new single right now!

Repost: Angel Locsin Has No Plans of Taking Over Darna

Angel Locsin remains to be the top choice to play Philippine heroine Darna.

At least, that's what fans keep telling her, usually --one can imagine-- with hands clasped together in prayer, ignoring that she herself has said that her time as the Pinay superhero is up and that it's only right to hand down the fabled "bato" to someone else to keep the character's legacy alive.

It's been more than a decade since Locsin wore the iconic costume for a TV series, imbuing it with gravitas and grace --a famous performance that defined, in the eyes of many, what a strong female superheroine should be for years to come.

She was supposed to don it again for a movie but had to exit the project due to health concerns regarding her back. Since then, she has expressed her full support for her replacement, young actress Liza Soberano, and yet there were still rumblings.

This noisy clamor for her to take the role back found headwind when she was seen doing stunts for her primetime series "The General's Daughter." It only grew stronger when it was revealed that Soberano has decided to back out because of a finger injury.

But, in an interview with ABS-CBN News' MJ Felipe, Locsin's answer remained to be a firm "no."

Her first thought when the news broke out, she shared, was not that if she could possibly reconsider putting on the costume again. Rather, it was one of worry.

"Nag-alala ako sa kaniya," she said of Soberano.
(I was worried about her.)

"Kung mayroon man sigurong tao na makakaintindi sa pinagdadaanan niya ngayon, ako iyon. Nag-alala ako na sana OK lang siya. So nag-try ako mag-message sa kanya. Sabi ko lang , 'Liza.' "Sagot niya, 'Ate, I'm sorry.'"

(If there's someone who would understand what she's going through, that's me. I got worried and hoped she's OK. So I tried to message her. I just said 'Liza.' She answered, 'Ate, I'm sorry.')

"Naramdaman ko kung gaano siya ka-devastated sa nangyari and kung gaano niya kagusto i-please iyong network and fans niya na nagaantay. Pero siyempre, kailangan din niyang alagaan iyong sarili niya. Siguro ganoon din niya kamahal iyong role, na feeling niya hindi niya maibibigay iyong buo niya."

(I felt how devastated she was about what happened and how much she wants to please the network and her fans who have been waiting. But of course, she needs to take care of herself. Perhaps that's how much she loved the role, that she felt she couldn't give her all.)

She also begged fans to give the selection process for the new Darna some time, true to the comics' lore about the hero, "ang bato talaga ni Darna, namimili ng tao. Hindi basta basta lang."

(Darna's stone chooses. It's not that simple.)
