TikTok Scoop: Tuesday Vargas Opens Up on Suicide Attempt, Encourages People Thinking about It Not To

@tuesday_v May mga panahong sobrang lapit ko na. Pero mabait ang panginoon. Hindi nya ako hinayaang matuloy na mawala. Please check on your friends. Even the ones who are smiling all the time. Life is hard enough as it is, be someone’s safe space if you can. #worldsuicidepreventionday ♬ original sound - Sqrousevsf©️

I remember how close I got to ending it all. But just as I was about to say goodbye, the sky opened up and I felt a warmth all over my body. I cried my eyes out. I knew then that it still wasnt my time. That the Lord still has a mission for me. I am reaching out to whoever might need this: Life will get hard and you may think you cannot bear it, but God will carry you through. Trust in him.

Duty First

As followers of any organization, certain responsibilities are expected to be met. For example, attendance in functions is part of a member’s basic duty. By seeing other members, camaraderie can be built and concern for each other can be expressed. Moreover, the organization can check on how the member is doing and extend the necessary guidance or help.

Many showbiz personalities have dual roles. First, as part of showbiz, they are bound by the guidelines set by their management. Second, as part of an organization, they are tied up with the rules of their group. Lucky are those whose careers fall within their group’s vision.

Some actors are limited by their organizations when it comes to their roles. Females are expected to choose their roles that will not be offensive. If celebrities are in good standing, they can reap the support, such as patronizing their projects.

Sadly, Female Newbie (FN) is not receiving that much support from her group. Worse, she’s allegedly getting bashed. FN apparently is neglecting her responsibilities. Some criticize her for giving in to laziness rather than devoting time to fulfill her obligations. If FN will not address her shortcomings, she might find herself out in the cold if the organization decides to kick her out.

Convenience of Love

The first look could have led to that spark that she has been looking for all her life. He could have been attracted by her looks and his interest in her grew. As time passed, Hunk Dude (HD) and Pretty Actress (PA) made their life-changing decisions. Love, marriage, then family. HD and PA were on route to a happy life.

After a few years, perhaps PA missed part of her old life. She did give up much of what she had worked for. Her life was focused on HD and keeping the family intact. Meanwhile, HD allegedly had no idea about PA’s single life. He was too much in love with her to care until things moved differently.

HD noticed PA was frequently traveling without him. The distance soon affected their relationship. PA was busy and so was he with his own responsibilities. In a blink, HD again made a life-changing decision that PA fell silent as her fairy tale image had been shattered. Allegedly, HD found out the real PA and perhaps he did not like it. Now, hush talk is calling PA a user. HD gave her something that was valuable that could help her in life. This realization could have hit HD hard.

‘You can lie to yourself about all kinds of things. Until you can't, anymore. Until reality pounds a hole through your fantasy castle and the reality check must be cashed in.’ — Ann Aguirre

The Genius of Maja Salvador’s New Ad

“KERATIN PLUS?!?” If you saw the hilarious digital commercial making its rounds on the internet, I’m certain you heard Maja Salvador’s voice reading that line. Making an “ad you can hear,” Keratin Plus, a daily hair treatment product, recently launched a digital commercial with their newest endorser, celebrity actress and soon-to-be-mom, Maja Salvador.

The 15-second video opens with Maja’s gorgeous profile saying, “I feel beautiful because I treat my hair with keratin… KERATIN???” as she finger combs through her long, luscious hair. Dubbed the “Queen of Repeating Words”, the creatives behind this ad perfectly matched Maja’s natural quirk to the simple yet brilliant script.

But that’s not all there is to it. The “repeating words syndrome” is a distinctly Pinoy take on hifalutin words or sudden English speak. It’s a verbal mannerism that is widespread among Millennials and Gen Z, to soften the seriousness of a conversation, or to make fun of one’s self. It’s like an inside joke among fellow Pinoys and is translated as the “caps lock patanong culture” among younger netizens. Some go as far as gatekeeping the meme when others can’t seem to understand its context, but that’s what makes it funnier. The “dogshow humor” of the ad instantly caught its audience, trending among Facebook Community Groups and social media platforms. Some even claim it’s the official meme of 2024.

That’s easy, given the convenience of sharing online. The true success of the ad, however, is measured by how some people went out of their way to hunt for the product themselves. “The Living Meme,” as some netizens call it, has an effect on consumers, making them flock to their nearby groceries and sari sari stores to check out the Keratin Plus hair treatments and shampoos.

Check out these TikTokers proving that the ad is not just funny but highly effective, too:

Under the username @gaiapoly with over 500k followers and 22.1M likes, the female TikToker is seen walking inside a local grocery with her young nephew, Martin, who mimicked the commercial by repeating some of her words as she talks to the camera, vlogging their trip. “Kaloka ‘yung effect ni Ms. Maja Salvador sa pamangkin ko. Mapapa-Keratin Plus ka na lang talaga, bhie,” she said on her caption. They even inserted parts of the commercial on the TikTok video to show how they’re copying Maja’s lines.

Another result of the ad is how it has proven to have brand recall, as TikToker, Martin Leonard Chua who has 165k followers and over 5.5M likes, recorded his own “Keratin Plus moment” upon seeing the product while he did his personal grocery errands. “I’m seeing a live Twitter meme right now,” he shared, as he held up a bottle of Keratin Plus shampoo. “Keratin???,” he jokingly said, in the same manner Maja did in the commercial. “Ang funny ni Maja Salvador! [...] I’m so happy na nakita ko siya in person (pertaining to the product).”

As more people discover the brand through the entertaining advertisement, many share their positive reviews on these videos’ comments section.

There is power in advertising, yes—the wittier, the better. But what makes it exponentially powerful that captures loyal consumers is the truth about their claims, and this is something that users can testify about Keratin Plus, again and again.

Repost: No HDO on Soriano and Aguilar Says DOJ

There was no hold departure order (HDO) issued against Justin Soriano and Jeck Aguilar, former members of Heart Evangelista’s glam team, who were unable to board their flight earlier this week.

“It was found that there was no derogatory record. Wala naman po siyang HDO. Wala din siyang international lookout bulletin order (There was no HDO. And there was no international lookout bulletin order),” Justice spokesperson Mico Clavano said in a media briefing when asked on the matter.

This came amid allegations that the two were unable to board their Monday flight to Dubai due to an HDO. They were supposedly held off at the check-in counter in Manila because airline personnel did not want to issue their boarding passes.

Clavano said he received reports that the problem was on the side of Dubai.

“So ‘yung airline mismo ang nag-offload doon sa mga pasahero na ‘yun and they were advised to actually report [to] the UAE Embassy,” he said.

(The airline itself offloaded the passengers and they were advised to report to the UAE Embassy.)

“On the side of the Philippines, wala naman tayong problema… it was on the side of the Dubai airport and Dubai authorities na nagkaproblema,” he added.

(There was no problem on the side of the Philippines… the problem was on the side of the Dubai airport and Dubai authorities.)

Former Glam Team of Heart Evangelista Denied Flight to UAE

In the past days, an incident involving the former glam team of Heart Evangelista made the news. Justin Soriano and Jeck Aguilar, according to reports, were unable to join Pia Wurtzbach in UAE.

Allegedly, Soriano and Aguilar were denied to board their flight. Initially, it was reported that there was a hold departure order. However, according to a source of Fashion PULIS, when the visas were scanned, there was no memo that instructed the two were to be denied of leaving. In other words, there was no explanation for the denial.

When Philippine Airlines prevented the two from taking their flight, they tried Etihad. The same thing happened. as they were once again barred although they were able to check-in online. Even the road manager of Wurtzbach was unable to fly. As far as their destination, the UAE, and the embassy were concerned, they were good to go.

Thus, the assumption was that the prevention came from the country. The source also said that the case of the two was known as a ‘white label.’ Someone could have tipped the Immigration that they might not return to the country anymore. Still, the case remains a mystery as no order was allegedly shown to prove the accusations that the two were flight risks or would no longer return to PH.

As of this writing, the source and circumstances of the prevention of the leaving of Soriano and Aguilar remain a mystery.

Done with Experimentations

Dashing Boy (DB) and a Network Actress (NA) both had humble beginnings and started out as nobodies, without connections. They only possessed the determination to break into the industry and to improve the lives of their families. Finally, their breakthrough projects launched their careers into success. As years passed, management wanted to prevent the plateau of their careers and wanted to check on the chemistry of the two.

Staff members were instructed to feel if the public would be receptive to the two, after all both are single. Whenever there was a chance on social media, the two would be shipped as part of the strategy. Reactions were posted but the desired outcomes were not met. Fans were not in rave and preferred DB’s future partner would be and actress who is a notch higher.

A close friend of DB later told him about the plan. DB said he was not in favor of any romantic angle, or any other connections with NA. True to his objection, DB politely declined the request of the management to react personally with likes and comments to the social media posts of NA. Nonetheless, to please the top bosses, DB agreed to work with NA even for just one project and that was as far as he agreed. DB no longer wanted to be part of experiments and perhaps, future loveteams, too.

Prince Hotel, Hong Kong Reopened Last August 1

The refurbished hotel welcomes guests to explore vibrant spaces, new dining experiences and wellness options in the shopping and commercial heart of the city

Prince Hotel reopened last August 1, after an extensive three-year renovation to its lobby, 394 guestrooms and suites, Continental Club and dining venues. Embodying the energy of Hong Kong, the refurbishment delivers bright and functional spaces that reflect a colourful aesthetic. Commenting on the reopening, Wharf Hotels President, Thomas Salg said, "The much anticipated return of Prince Hotel in the Tsim Sha Tsui district has been many months in the planning. We are excited to open our doors to a new chapter, and to new experiences designed for travellers who are eager to revisit or discover the
hotel and myriad attractions surrounding the property.”

Located on Canton Road in Tsim Sha Tsui district, Prince Hotel is integrated with Harbour City – one of Hong Kong’s largest luxury retail and dining complex – and within walking distance to the scenic harbour front promenade; the Art, Palace, Science and Space Museums; as well as Kowloon Park. With the iconic Star Ferry, Tsim Sha Tsui underground, Kowloon Canton Railway station and highspeed rail link a short stroll away, guests have quick and easy access to Hong Kong island and beyond.

“Prince Hotel is, and will continue to be, a destination for the local community and travellers to come together. With the transformation completed, we look forward to welcoming guests back and shaping how they dine, stay or celebrate with us to create collectible moments and inspire new stories,” said Gerhard Aicher, Area General Manager of Marco Polo Hotels in Hong Kong.

A Stylish and Modern Lobby

Greeting guests at the intimate ground level lobby are floor-to-ceiling windows that reveal the close proximity of the hotel to neighbouring luxury brands. The grey coloured marble flooring is enlivened by vivid pops of blue and orange, while the design scheme incorporates colour-changing light panels with abstract brush strokes, and modern artwork.

Vibrant and Functional Accommodation

Envisioned as lively spaces, the guestrooms and suites– ranging from 29 square metres to 56 square metres and with views of the city or harbour – use three distinct colours: imperial red, sunrise yellow and navy blue, to demarcate spaces and inject personality into the interiors. The colours also feature as statement walls, in artwork or on select pieces of furniture. The cocooning rooms each include a chaise lounge for guests to enjoy quieter moments by the window. Other features include an IPTV and complimentary Wi-Fi access. The Victoria Harbour-facing Continental Club suites on levels 16 and 17 adopt an open-plan layoutfor versatility. Warm neutrals in brown and beige ground the same bold colour scheme, while pillars are artistically embellished with a map of Tsim Sha Tsui and become an in-room focal point. Of note, are walk-in bathrooms with marble counter tops, open closets and separate showers that are integrated into the design.

For those looking for additional privacy, the Continental Club lounge on level 16 offers space for guests to work or relax, private check-in, daily breakfast, afternoon tea treats, and evening cocktail refreshments.

Inviting Social Spaces and Wellness Offerings

SAVVY, on level three, was the only hotel venue that was launched first and towards the end of 2021. The dining destination occupies more than 8,000-square-feet across one level and reimagines the concept of blended spaces to offer three zones: a bar, lounge and stylish restaurant. Its modern style and vibrancy is central to the atmosphere, and as a day-to-night location –– diners are encouraged to seamlessly enjoy the restaurant’s offerings and relax in one inviting space. Additionally, two private dining rooms are available for business meetings, celebrations, and exclusive dining experiences.

SAVVY’s culinary experience, delivered by Chef de Cuisine Derek Ng – who has more than 30 years’ of experience – and his team, is a smorgasbord of Asian and western flavours covering lunch, tea and dinner. From sustainable seafood, hearty bowls of noodles, vegetarian and gluten free options and grilled meats, all dishes are prepared to order.

The hotel’s 24-hour gym offers cardiovascular and weight training equipment. Guests can also enjoy use of the outdoor pool and other facilities at Marco Polo Hongkong Hotel, which is a five-minute walk away.

To celebrate the reopening of Prince Hotel, a "We Are Open!" offer is available until 31 October 2023. This offer includes a free upgrade, welcome drinks at SAVVY, in-room house red wine, and a chocolate gift box. To make a reservation, please telephone +852 2113 1888, email prince@marcopolohotels.com or book online.
