Girl, reread the names you listed. Those people were honored for achievements with cultural, artistic, and national impact. Being the first Filipino act at Coachella is an achievement, sure, but Coachella is not the end-all and be-all. Basically, the Senate is honoring them for being popular enough at the moment to get invited to Coachella, and honestly, that feels superficial. If Senate recognition is now based on being invited to an international platform, then logically a lot more Filipino artists should’ve been honored too as other artists have been breaking into international spaces long before this. Otherwise, it just feels selective and hype-driven rather than based on actual cultural impact. And it diminishes the weight of recognition given to people whose contributions genuinely shape Filipino culture, entertainment, or national pride.
