You Should Never Deny Your Benefactors

One of the dreaded fears of anyone starting in the entertainment industry is the revelation of his/her past, especially if his/her experiences are colorful and controversial. For example, the most popular secret that young actors do not want exposed is their past with benefactors, especially their connection with gays. Still, these actors are hung up on the belief that they will be shunned and that their career will not prosper if they have even just a teeny-weeny connection with the gay community. Despite the assistance extended by gays to talents, they are often denied once these talents have penetrated the industry.

Right after he completed his stint in a controversial show, Supporting Talent (ST) was given the opportunity to act in projects that showcased the talents of the hottest loveteams of his station. Even though he was a newbie, ST managed to acquire exposure that would have taken several years for the usual talents to accomplish. Regardless of criticisms, ST got the scenes that endeared him to his fans and widened his popularity.

However, while viewers only see what is fed to them on air, the townmates of ST know that he is quite popular for allegedly providing escort and other special services to rich gay clients. Often, ST is like the one that a rich sponsor would “gift” to visitors. Nonetheless, ST has been helped by several of his gay benefactors financially. Someone even cared to pay for his education. In short, ST benefitted from his gay contacts.

Sometime ago, one of these Gay Benefactors (GB) saw ST in a mall. GB smiled at ST. Instead of smiling back, ST avoided the line of sight and pretended that he did not see GB. It even felt that ST deliberately snubbed GB. Thus, GB was so infuriated that ST did that to him. GB could not figure out how ST could ignore him, when ST knew that it was GB who helped him when his parents got sick. GB provided help to make sure ST and his family could go over their crisis easily.

GB could only shake his head, as painful reality hit. With just a small sip of popularity, ST suddenly forgot all those who had helped him go through his trials. Meanwhile, given that he has stepped into showbiz, ST could be also trying to sweep his past under the rug. Nonetheless, someone should advise ST that no amount of hiding or denial could cover up the truth for a lifetime.

‘The human heart has hidden treasures, In secret kept, in silence sealed; The thoughts, the hopes, the dreams, the pleasures, Whose charms were broken if revealed.’ - Charlotte Bronte

  3. It was a transaction, ST provided his services and GB got what he wanted for a fee. Why should ST have to feel indebted to GB forever? It's not fair that gay benefactors have to emotionally blackmail closet gays and escorts this way.

    1. Some gay benefactors just want a simple utang na loob siguro. During crisis, they help those closeted starlets rin naman. It's not a joke to spend thousands of pesos sa wala.

    2. Korek. It's not like GB did it for charity. He got what he wanted, and ST got his. Although I'd understand if he thought na he and ST could be friends, pero like you said, he shouldn't think that ST owes him something.

    3. may isang tao halimbawa nagtrabaho sa isang kumpanya tapos binayaran sya sa trabahong ginawa, ibig sabihin ba nun pag tapos na ang trabaho dedeadmahin na nya yung kumpanya? di ba hindi? bilang respeto papansinin parin nya kahit ang ibinayad sa kanya ay pinagtrabahuhan nya. it's not about utang na lood. it's about respect.

    5. 8.50 respeto goes both ways baks.

  4. Nakakaawa si ST.. Huwag natin syang husgahan.. Siguradong hindi nya gusto yung nangyari sa kanya in the past.. Kapit sa patalim ang tawag dun.. Maybe, ayaw na nyang maisip nakaraan nya

    1. I agree. And many of them were subjected to this "arrangement" when they're fairly young ha.

  7. I don't think that is utang na loob if ST did what he has to do and benefited from it. Just saying.

  8. It's not like he really helped him without something in return so...

  10. I think GB just wanted a littlw recognition like raise of the brows (if subtle lang diba). Yes it is transaction nga but clients din and in reality we dont snub our clients or customers. :)

    1. Yeah they do esp if the client has been taking advantage of you which in this case GB is doing by risking ST's reputation.

  12. Wag manghusga agad.

Your past doesn't have to define who you are today.
