Just Showing Too Much Fondness for Each Other

Whenever a showbiz personality admits being in a relationship, the news is met with both joy and cynicism. Fans who are loyal and broad-minded will not mind whomever that personality chooses to be with. By contrast, critics would always find something negative regarding the admission. Nonetheless, some couples admit their relationship without regard for consequences, as admission frees them from speculations and repeated grilling from the press on their status.

While Network Star (NS) and Cute Boyfriend (CB) made their relationship public, no other party raised a fuss on the new relationship. From all indications, it seems that the family of NS loves CB, as he could be seen in photos with them. Finally, NS found someone whom her family accepts and adores.

However, the drawback of having a relationship with a celebrity is that prying eyes will always be around and all actions will be noticed by the public. Thus, discreet actions are always preferred over showy and excessive public display of affection. Any attempts at behaving like a regular couple will always be judged especially if the couple opted to be in public.

One time, NS and CB went to a high end mall to have a meal. No matter how NS tries to be incognito, her face will always stand out and she will naturally get that second look from the public. Unmindful of the people around them NS and CB were getting a bit too physical. CB was allegedly quite touchy with NS, who was giddy as he continued with his smooth moves. As they had already caught the attention of several diners, NS and CB were easy to spot amidst the crowd. Their clothes were familiar and their closeness was very obvious.

Later, a couple was kissing passionately at the backseat of a car. From a quick glance, the clothes of the couple matched that of NS and CB. Soon the action seemed to go faster and the unexpected passers-by became uncomfortable with the possibility that something else was happening in the car. Thus, people just walked away from the car.

While CB seems protective of NS when it comes to getting her away from fans who request for selfies, he does not seem to care of the potential repercussion of their almost wild behavior in public. NS has a wholesome image, which her camp has been protecting. She does have endorsements that require good behavior. If NS and CB continue to be touchy feely in public, NS might just be noticed for the wrong reasons.

Repost: Lea Salonga Writes a Letter to the Next Philippine President

By: Lea Salonga

DEAR Sir or Madame:

Before writing further, allow me to congratulate you on your victory in these last elections. This one is hard won; this campaign season was one of the most divisive this country has ever seen.

Facebook feeds have been filled with negative posts and vitriol, with everyone drawing lines in the sand and taking sides. I wouldn’t be surprised to find out that friendships have been broken as a result of this year’s election, despite the lifetimes that those unions have lasted.

However, the people have now spoken with their ballots, and you have emerged the winner. Hopefully, the fever generated on social media and elsewhere will now cool down, and that things will return to something closer to normal.

Allow me, please, as an ordinary citizen of this country, to offer my own two cents.

Of course, it is your prerogative to ignore everything this missive contains. This is not intended to tell you how to do your job, but rather to share the desires of my heart as one of the millions yearning for a brighter future for the next generation. I may be showing my naïveté, but kindly allow me a few minutes of your time.

Firstly, please decentralize the congestion in Metro Manila. Surely as a nation of 7,107 islands, Metro Manila cannot be the only place where the manna has fallen. Can’t the opportunities for jobs and education be spread everywhere?

As a result, perhaps the traffic situation that many from Metro Manila complain about will improve, because there will be less people flocking to this metropolis as the perceived central location for work.

Speaking of traffic, if the previous administration had a really good public transportation plan, please consider its merits.

Millions of commuters depend upon the rail and bus systems to get them from place to place. If there are ways to make sure that our commuters get to their destinations safely and expeditiously, including the maintenance of all these systems, and the roads that everyone uses, that would put smiles on their faces.

On that note… if there are programs, infrastructure or personnel from previous administrations that are actually working, it might be a good idea to have those things stay on, and maybe get reinforced.

Cultural presentations

The Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP), for example, is a building built during the Marcos administration, and has remained as a premier location for stage plays, concerts and other cultural presentations. It is also in need of care. I’ve seen it glorious, and I’ve seen it in less than pristine condition.

Many artists and art companies call this place home. Given that the Filipino artist has been hailed all over the globe as “world-class,” it might be a good idea to nurture the arts in a world-class home.

A society can be judged on how it treats its artists. The late US President John F. Kennedy himself said, “I am certain that after the dust of centuries has passed over cities, we too will be remembered not for victories or defeats in battle or in politics, but for our contribution to the human spirit.”

After all is said and done, just know that I shall support you because of the office you now occupy. Whether or not I actually voted for you is at this point irrelevant. I shall presume that you have the absolute best interests of our country and countrymen at heart, and will do everything in your power to

effect actual, tangible, visible change—the kind of change we have all been desperately craving for.

The word “change” means something different to different people, though… To some, it means the end of systemic corruption, horrible traffic snarls and feeling taken advantage of. To others, it means not having to leave one’s family to find work abroad, being able to walk safely at night and having access to good health care and education.

It’s a pity that you have such a short time period in which to provide all this. But know this: I know that you by yourself are not a miracle worker. One administration will not be enough to turn things around 180 degrees. That would be impossible.

All I ask for is to put the mechanisms in place that future generations can build upon in order to move our country forward. And I ask that future generations, without malice or vengefulness, continue whatever good work has been started.

Thank you very much for reading.

Repost: Former SC Chief Justice Corona Dies; He was 67

Senators, justices, judges, and lawyers on Friday mourned the death of former Chief Justice Renato Corona, extolling him for his defense of judicial independence.

Corona, who was removed from office for nondisclosure of his assets following a riveting months-long impeachment trial in 2012, died from cardiac arrest before dawn Friday. He was 67.

Corona, who was known to have battled diabetes for a long time, died at 1:48 a.m. at Medical City in Pasig City, surrounded by family.  He is survived by his wife Cristina and their three children.

“We extend our condolences to the bereaved family of the late Chief Justice Renato Corona and join them in fervent prayers for his eternal repose,” Communications Secretary Herminio Coloma Jr. said in a statement.

Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno and the associate justices “mourn the passing” of Corona, the high court said.  The Philippine flag in all courts and the Supreme Court colors were flown at half-staff beginning Friday.

Corona was appointed Chief Justice in May 2010, but his term was cut short when he was impeached and found guilty of underdeclaring his net worth—the country’s chief magistrate in the country’s history to have suffered such a fate.

“My deepest sympathies to Chief Justice Corona’s family and loved ones,” presidential candidate Sen. Miriam Defensor-Santiago said in her social media account.

Her running mate, Sen. Ferdinand Marcos Jr., said Corona was a victim of the Aquino administration’s “selective justice.”

“It is always sad to note the passing of a man like Chief Justice Renato Corona upon whom a great injustice was visited and it is unfortunate that at the time of his death he was still under this cloud that remained above him since the impeachment trial,” Marcos said.

Santiago and Marcos, together with Sen. Joker Arroyo who died in October last year, voted to acquit Corona at his impeachment trial.

Corona, an Ateneo de Manila University law graduate who earned his law master’s degree from Harvard University, served as former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo’s legal counsel and chief of staff before he was appointed Supreme Court associate justice in April 2002.

Arroyo appointed him Chief Justice on May 12, 2010 despite a constitutional prohibition on appointments during elections. Critics called it “midnight appointment.” Arroyo stepped down on June 30, 2010.

Her successor, President Aquino, showed his displeasure over Corona’s appointment by taking his oath before then Associate Justice Conchita Carpio Morales.

In December 2011, the House of Representatives voted to impeach Corona, initiating a trial against him at the Senate. The trial ended in his conviction for betrayal of public trust and culpable violation of the Constitution.

In San Pablo City, Laguna, judges and court employees vowed to wear crapes until Corona’s remains were laid to rest.

“For us, [Corona’s] name, honor, and reputation remain unsullied despite the injustice done to him by the powers that be,” said Judge Agripino Morga of the city’s Regional Trial Court Branch 32.

Vicente Joyas, former president of the Integrated Bar of the Philippines, said Corona had considerable contributions to the country from his stint in Malacañang to his years in the judiciary.

Joyas remembered Corona as a “fair” justice whose “integrity is beyond question.”

Rico Quicho, a member of Corona’s legal team at his impeachment trial and now the campaign spokesperson for Vice President Jejomar Binay, remembered the late magistrate’s unparalleled “moral courage.”

“I am deeply saddened by the passing of CJ Renato Corona. He is a good man, loving husband and father. CJ Corona fought a good fight to uphold the independence of the institution he dearly loved,” Quicho said in a statement.

Karen Jimeno, also a member of Corona’s legal team in 2012, looked back at how Corona showed strength in the face of a painful and very public trial.

“What I remember from him is that I think he was also unfairly perceived by the public because of the trial by publicity that he had to go through. But at the end of the day, you have a person who is intelligent, which is why he was appointed to the Supreme Court in the first place as justice, and then later on as Chief Justice,” Jimeno told the Inquirer.

Jimeno could not recall the last time she saw Corona, but remembered that he would regularly meet the defense team for dinner even after the trial just to catch up.

“After the impeachment, we stayed in touch with CJ Corona. We would even regularly see him for dinners or get together with the whole defense team,” Jimeno said.

“At that time, he looked OK. He even lost weight in a good way, like he was able to exercise, [he was] spending a lot of quality time with the family,” she added.

Asked if she thought the trial took a toll on Corona, Jimeno said: “I think, to a certain extent, yes.”

“We saw even during the impeachment that his health declined. I think that came from months of having to deal with the media, most of all the stress. Even during the trial, there was one day when his blood sugar dropped very low because he had been with a serious condition of diabetes since before,” she said.

She said the wake of the trial, which led to the filing of tax cases against Corona, added stress to the then already ailing magistrate. “So those things take a toll on your health,” she said.

His death extinguished his criminal liability for cases pending in the Sandiganbayan and Court of Tax Appeals.   With reports from Nikko Dizon, Dona Pazzibugan and Maricar Cinco, Inquirer Southern Luzon

Natural Detox for Your Colon

Many of us overlook our colon’s health and instead of taking good care of it, we mostly do sever damage without even knowing. Consumption of processed meat, alcoholic beverages, medications and other chemical substances could build up mucus in the colon and if not properly released, it may circulate through the bloodstream and poison our body. This is why detoxifying, cleansing the colon is important. There are ways that you can naturally cleanse your colon without the complexity of life today.

1. Apples and apple cider vinegar or ACV helps in cleansing the colon

- Many advanced colon-cleansing protocols include whole apples, apple sauce, apple juice, or apple cider vinegar (ACV) because this simple fruit is a powerful cleansing food. High in fiber, a nutrient that is already widely known to promote healthy digestion, apples are also rich in pectin, a carbohydrate compound that acts as a thickening agent inside the gut. When taken in therapeutic doses, pectin can help root out built-up toxins in the colon and strengthen the intestinal lining.

2. Avocados are good in cleansing the colon.

- For everyday colon cleansing, avocados are another great option for detoxification and digestion. Like apples, avocados are rich in fiber, and include both soluble and insoluble varieties at a ratio of about one to three, which is quite unique. As it turns out, insoluble fiber is the type that promotes healthy bowel movements and cleanses the colon, effectively reducing one's overall risk of developing colon cancer. Also important is the avocado's soluble fiber content, which is essential for absorbing water and binding with other digested substances to help them easily move through the digestive tract. This mechanistic "gelling" effect also helps maintain bowel regularity in its own unique way, and prevents the toxic build up that can lead to irregularity and constipation.

3. An all-natural supplement that promotes colon cleansing!

Repost: Kris: Abu Kidnap Plot Reason for Not Renewing ABS-CBN Contract

Actress-TV host Kris Aquino on Thursday confirmed the alleged plot by bandit group Abu Sayyaf to kidnap her and cited this as the reason for not renewing her contract with broadcast network ABS-CBN.

The plan to kidnap Kris and boxing icon Manny Pacquiao was disclosed by President Benigno Aquino III  on Wednesday.

Kris requested that her statement be published verbatim.

“Marinel- I was taken by surprise by the Malacañang statement. I wasn’t warned it would be made public. I had a 4 a.m. call time today for a TVC shoot and my sister Viel sent me the PDI front page.

“Honest truth, I was made aware of this plot late February, early March. My sisters tried to shield me because they didn’t want me to have more fear than necessary. If you recall, my sons and I left in March to go abroad for three weeks. The health reasons I cited weren’t fabricated because the stress coming from the threat had caused my BP to constantly elevate to higher than 150/110.

“I didn’t renew with ABS CBN because of this threat. That was a painful decision, but I needed to make that judgment call so as not to expose others to harm. It was that serious that I walked away from a new two-year contract for a job I’ve loved for 20 years. I informed my bosses the pertinent facts, but not full details from the intelligence reports, and they kept what I was allowed to relay to them under wraps. I was told to strictly keep the news contained and I obeyed. And I am grateful for the respect I was shown.

“And to their credit, everybody closest to me – both coworkers, relatives and friends – kept quiet to protect me and because they knew this was a matter to be taken seriously with utmost precaution.

“We left Palm Sunday and returned for my endorsement work commitments second week of April. You can check my IG (Instagram) feed from March onwards – there have been very few location specific posts, and since our return, the two boys (her sons Josh and Bimby) and I have been living with PNoy.

“If you’ll use this text – I hope I am quoted verbatim. I read and re-read my text to you four times to make sure I didn’t reveal more than what I have knowledge of and what is safe to share.”

Must Be a Crazy Love Triangle

One morning, Influential Insider (II) called Hunk Newbie (HN) and asked him where he was. HN said that he was on location with Young Talent (YT). A bit disappointed, II asked the production regarding the presence of HN on the said show. The production said that something suspicious seems to be happening between HN and YT. Thus, II instructed YT to have other talents in his segment, as viewers might just become bored with the frequent appearance of HN. Given that II was the one giving him instructions, YT had to relent or else he might be one to end up with no show at all.

Something allegedly was indeed developing between HN and YT. When HN first joined YT, the latter was smitten. His admirable physique and impressive skills in public relations made HN easy to like. Given that the location matched the call of the season, HN and YT had opportunities to loosen up and enjoy the amenities of the site.

Prior to being on the set, HN and YT had time to kill in their tent. However, during one time, both had yet to show up in the waiting area. Their absence made someone in the crew go to their tent and call them. When the door was opened, the crew tried to be calm, as it was noticeable that YT was fixing his shorts and something was up under the pants of HN. After a few minutes, the two did their segment.

As YT became fond of HN, he insisted on having him as the guest. The production could not complain, as HN was game anyway. However, one time, both repeated their disappearing act. The crew decided to do a bit of sleuthing and sneaked towards the window. This time, he had to be calmer than before because he was too shocked to see the scene. YT was a willing bottom and HN was giving him the time of his life. Thus, the mystery had been solved. Something indeed was happening behind the locked door.

When II realized what the production was telling her, she felt jealous. Recently, her attention shifted to HN and she even took him to a major event a couple of months ago. The presence of HN during the event was not at all surprising as he is among the talents the network aims to build up. Given his previous experience, HN knows all the moves to make a woman happy, and happiness is indeed what II gets from him. Thus, II had to cut the competition and get rid of opportunities that would bring YT and HN together at the company’s expense. However, knowing that II could be powerful, those who have an idea of her fondness for HN are expecting his career to zoom in the coming days.
