Whether or not you believe the Miss Universe flub by Steve Harvey was hilarious or tragic (twitter certainly believes the former), one thing is for sure, a much better design could’ve saved a lot of heartache.

Welcome to the silliest and most sloppily arranged piece of design to hit a multi-million dollar, overproduced, international beauty pageant to date. This is like showing up in flip-flops to the Oscars. And with months in the making, and thousands of hours worth of prep time, how did this part get overlooked?
Let's break it down.
There isn't any logical order to this. Sizing, placement, and organizing is all over the place. Why is “Miss Universe” all the way to the right, but “Philippines” is centered below it? The actual winner, compositionally speaking, was essentially just cast off to the side. It looks like a footnote. And even though this document was created so that the names could be added later, they could have at least made the letters bigger. Microsoft Word can certainly adjust font sizes.

I took 20 minutes of my time to try and get this right. First, I’ve updated the brand to match. Just because this is simple and utilitarian doesn’t mean it can’t match the rest of the show. After that, I tackled the hierarchy. Now our "2015 Miss Universe” is now way more obvious. I’ve even managed to leave places to add the winner labels. Also, everything is easier to read and follow. Our elimination card is legible, clean, and focused. By using size and color, we’ve made this document a lot more easy to understand.
Maybe every elimination card couldn’t be this neat and pretty. But this is the main one. The Finale. This mistake isn’t Steve Harvey’s fault. The culprit here is, once again, bad design. Hey Steve, I got your back buddy.
Coz of her well rounded butt! Courtesy of being mixed with black and meso America and the Roman Spaniards!
ReplyDeleteFont size is small too to think the venue was noisy, full of people and mega lighting brouhaha. Haha!
Even the redesigned card doesn't have a good layout. The alignment should be the same but then again nothing is foolproof especially for someone like Steve Harvey.
ReplyDeleteNaiinis din ako kay Steve Harvey peeo naaawa din ako at the same time.
DeleteI agree! Pero sana, since he's the host. Reponsibility nya na idouble check or triple check muna yung laman ng card lalo pa at napakalaking pageant ng Ms U.
ReplyDeleteI beg to disagree. I noticed Harvey looking confused the whole ceremony. But I blamed it on human error. However, Perez said that he heard that Harvey was partying and getting drunk the whole time and NY daily news reported that he missed crucial rehearsal time which included the announcement/crowning of the winner. Now I blame it on Harvey's negligence. It was him, all him.
Baka akala nung host yung 2nd runner up mean Second Place, then 1st runner up is First Place or winner.
ReplyDeleteDapat jan tig isang envelope per runner up and winners. Parang PBB finale, para maayos
ReplyDeleteMali spell ng elimination
ReplyDeleteaminado naman si harvey na nagkamali sya pero tingnan ko kung ano nangyayari ngaun...at ang chaka ng card...sabi nga ni perez hilton baka hung over pa sya dahil sa kaka gamble at inom nya...he didn't do his job right...
ReplyDelete-xoxo-
napansin tuloy ang unbudgeted na card,,,, haaiiiisssssttt
ReplyDeleteRegardless of how the card was designed, it is the responsibility of the host to ensure that he make the correct announcement. Mr. Steve Harvey did not exercise caution considering that the Miss Universe event is a huge one. There should be no room for mistakes.
ReplyDeleteAside sa layout ng card, siguro steve harvey just wanted to surprise himself din by not reviewing the card "first". Parang dun lang din niya binuksan at dun din niya makikita ang result so as to not give any hint sa audience. Pero falfak! I agree din he probably thought that the "1st runner up" means the "winner"..... Haaaaay nako!!!! Nakakaloka! At eto namang si Colombia, di pa maka-move on! Teh! Compare your answers na lang with Philippines, walang wala! Kaya please lang, wag niyo na ipagpilitan. It goes to show talaga na you really dont deserve that crown and title.
ReplyDeleteThe card is clear. It's the host negligence
ReplyDeleteUSA
2nd runner up
Colombia
1st runner up
Philippines
Walang mali sa Lay out. Susme! Steve is not a novice for crying out loud! He is a stage comediane in his Steve Harvey show and a host of the Family Feud where he also reads cue in a card. Here in America, there is no excuse for such a sloppy job. That was it, a blunder mistake by host.
