    2. Eh kasi naman who would admit that he/she is without a talent but kapal ng mukha to sing and be in showbiz

      Delete
    3. Nakakatuwa si Kuya Martin. Nakigaya sa style ni ateng. Lol!

Pero tama naman si Martin at Lea about "there's nothing we can do about BUT we are singers and our reputation is being mixed with non-singers".

    8. Hahahahahaha! We are a nation of serenade talaga eh! Pag me show sa province KANTA! Pag me political sortie KANTA! Mga variety show KANTA! Tambay? KANTA!

    1. He has nothing to prove to you fantard 12:17. FYI, he is not just a singer. He is a composer also.

      Delete
Eh kasi nga fantard may talent!

Okay? Di mo marereach ung logic!

      Delete
    4. He is a balladeer.

      Delete
    5. 1:10 and 1:31. Even Tom Jones reinvented himself. Tina Turner too. Andiyan din si Cher. Idagdag mo na rin si Madonna. The list goes on and on. But if you're content with Martin's sappy ballads, knock yourself out.

      Delete
    6. Isa rin yang Gary na yan. Nagrerevive na lang ng sariling kanta.

      Delete
    7. 12:42. Who said I'm asking him to prove himself? It's just that Martin needs to reinvent himself if he wants to be relevant in today's music biz. He can't possibly expect to relive his glory days if he keeps playing to the nostalgia crowd instead of appealing to the younger generation. That applies to a lot of our "legit" singers as well.

      Delete
    8. martin doesnt have to prove anything to anybody. Hanggang ngayon nag-iisa ang conert king. name names nga kung sinong singer na lalaki aside from GARY na pwedeng pumantay k martin when it comes to successful concert perfomances?

      Delete
    9. 2:33, that's because he's playing to the nostalgia crowd. The same audience he played to in the 80's. What about today's crowd?

      Delete
    10. 2:17am no need for reinvention gurl. he will stay relevant and until now he is. he may not be as popular as before but he has the staying power. martin can still command a good crowd to trope to his concerts. BTW, did you said he is not relevant? who is relevant to you then? huh!

      Delete
    11. Anon 12:17, oh eh anong style ba gusto mo ipakita or iparinig ni Martin? Style? Like what, hip hopping, twerking, nae naeing while singing. Artists are more into what genre they can do best. Obviously, Anon 12:17 you don't know a thing about music....the kind that pleases, that soothes, relaxes even those that are great for dancing, sang and delivered by gifted voices galing kay Lord not the kind from auto tune.

      Delete

      Delete
    13. He's really good no. He's a definition of a legit singer.

      Delete
    14. Anon 5:29, of course he doesn't have to twerk. But he can collaborate, or add something new to his gasgas na repertoire. As I mentioned in my previous comment, nandiyan si Tom Jones na relevant pa rin ngayon dahil may effort siya to appeal to today's listeners. Either you adapt, or watch your career die a natural death.

FYI all generations whether young or old are affected by nostalgia my dear! we are all sentimental and nostalgic depending on ones mood! kung maka nostalgia nostalgia ka dyan!

      Delete
    16. Yes, yes, Martin's brand of music may no longer be "relevant", and he does not need to be. And it seems, 2:17, that your view of relevance is equal to popularity. I'll name drop na ha. So do you think Anne Curtis, Daniel Padilla, Kathryn Bernardo, etc are relevant to the music industry because they are popular and they have a huge mass and Jeje following? Networks and recording studios could easily cultivate a significant number of pure talents: winners and/or runners up of The Voice, KZ Tandigan and yes, even Aicelle Santos and Jonalyn Viray, I daresay. But they're investing their money, providing recording careers to the more popular stars who are not even doing a stellar job in acting. In a way, the country's biggest network has altered the consciousness of the masses. I wouldn't be surprised if people would start bashing on this comment. But that's nothing compared to the now scarred rep of OPM, just because people these days prefer that sort of novelty over legit music.

  12. Non-singers promote by singing? I understand Martin's point. But capitalizing and making a career out of it (case in point: may second album and concerts) is a different story. It's not their core so give it to people who takes it seriously and respect the craft. Producers also should respect the art beyond topline growth. Here in SK, 3.5years ang average but training can take a year to 7 years depending on the trainees' raw talent and targeted market, genre & trends. HOWEVER, they have so much respect for their KPop industry. That's why they work so hard prior to debut. Talent and musicality mean so much to them on top of looks. They do not welcome mediocrity as their biggest agencies claim it (SM, YG & JYP). Their actors & actresses who can sing participate in musicals and sing on-screen. BUT, they do not do album releases as they respect that it's the KPop artists' core and forte. I think its delikadesa in Filipino. And respect for the art and the people who deserve it better. They also put budgets for indie artists. And they do hard core musical experiments. From this, we can say by comparison na relatively tamad and industry natin because producers do it the easier way by taking advantage of big stars' bankability and reach via different platforms. Plus the fact that our major local record labels are owned by the biggest stations. In SK, agencies compete with each other to improve their industry but work with SBS, KBS, MBC & Arirang. There are a lot of factors that differentiate our local music industry from theirs but it's okay to benchmark for improvement. It's just that apparently, we do it business as usual and it ends there. Sa kanila, business growth is prioritized without sacrificing art for the greater good. Which makes me think na mas sakim tayo. Sayang ang pool of talent. -Pinoy in SK

May comparative points for possible improvements and suggestions. Yung sayo passive way of commenting, lifted pa from the post itself. Haha

      Delete
    3. Weh inggit ka 315 noh sa good observations ni 1244 noh while sayo quoted pa from Martin. Fantard ka kasi kaya ayaw mong i-recognize na swapang naman talaga ang local record labels at poor in terms of creative innovation ang local music industry. Aminin!

      Delete
    4. Manigas ka teh. Music is an industry. An industry is business. Kaya pag may fans na tumatangkilik whether you can sing or not andun yung pera. Kumikita ang singer or non singer dahil nga may fans.

      Delete
    5. NO, you DIDN'T understand Martin's point.... and what exactly is your point? Who cares about Koreans anyway.

      Delete
    6. Anon 1212, hindi mo I think na-gets point ni Anon 1244. he was saying that he agrees that non-singers can promote by singing BUT making a career out of it is a DIFFERENT story. Which means he agrees with martin then gave plausible learnings based on SK's business model (Business growth + Respect for Art + Creative Innovation). Everyone cares about the KPop industry these days and almost everyone's looking at their success for benchmarking. Hindi kasalanan maging ignorante pero if you argue, basa basa muna before any rebuttal.

      Delete
    7. ANON 907 if that's the mindset of everyone, continuous improvement gets defeated. I am a business person but it's no longer enough to make profits and hit topline targets. We, in the corporate world, have been striving for effective social contributions. If you wouldn't change your mindset and vision, I assure you you won't be able to break the glass ceiling.

      Delete
    8. @12:44, even Koreans know the importance of appeal and saleability. Say for instance our highly regarded Sandara Park (I'm a fan of Sandara and of 2NE1) but I do admit that she is a non-singer as well. I know what your saying, your example is wrong though making your argument invalid.

  34. Napakaraming magagaling na singers..listen to radio stations na nag bibigay ng spot for indie singers or bands..wag nating i-limit sarili natin sa kung anong ini-spoon fed or hina-hype ng media..

More than the singers, mas need natin ang magagaling na composers.

    Charot, maisingit lang. Hahaha

It is really sad of what OPM industry has become. Personally knowing aspiring musicians, I have witnessed how their struggles in honing their craft and pursuing their dreams. But as we all know, having the passion for music is not enough (talent's prerequisite, of course) but, these artists need ears to listen to their music. A great way to bridge these talents to reach us audiences is a recording company that would produce and distribute their works.

But nowadays, recording companies have tried to keep afloat with the trends of our economy. Most of the Filipino audience are more interested to foreign scene (I am guilty of that, yes.) sales of these recording companies are going down. But, seeing these "non-singers" with huge fan base (sure buyers) gave them hope to catch up with their losses by selling works of these non-singers who have a lot of fans that would buy their album.

So, may be if we are actually listening to OPM, supporting true talents and avoid patronizing trashy (Wag kang pabebe) songs, the tides will turn and give rise to the local musicians who have struggled enough to be heard.

Keep reinventing yourselves. Gulatin nyo kami. Think out of the box. Do something na you don't usually do.
