    4. Even if they are rich 'before', we do have a law that politicians should minimize luxury or else undergo auditing.
Before the audit or seating in their positions, the law also states that they should declare their possessions and current income/cash on hand/bank statement.
Otherwise, they will be tried for graft and corruption for having luxury items of questionable origin.

As Miriam Defensor-Santiago pointed out in her privilege speech against Enrile, politicians usually withdraw their large amount from their bank accounts and credit it to someone else before declaring it to the Commission on Audit.
Because of that, the likes of Estrada and their kin were able to 'escape' the eyes of the auditors.

    1. You have to go there yourself. You'll see the nicest cars around. And they are not usually owned by the Congressmen either. The staff, but not all, also got posh vehicles, and they also have that plate number 8 fixed - more for convenience in entering the premises. Vehicles with number 8 plates were just waived through by the security.

  21. Paanong nangyari? Its more fun talaga in the Philippines. Insanely fun.

  24. Makapal nga ang mukha even non politicians who are rich there in the Philippines can shamelessly flaunt their luxurious lifestyle, how can you drive an expensive car, dress in Gucci and carry a Birken purse and live in a mansion when you see every single day other people begging in the street. Even if you can afford it, don't you feel shame? Nice cars and nice clothes what for? The roads are ugly and there is smog that can blacken your nice clothes. Priorities, huh?

    1. Because it is their right? You can question their morality and their life choices pero expecting all people to become saints is a bit hypocritical. Yes, marami ang nagugutom, but you can afford to have an internet. Why don't you allot that budget to help those in dire need for food and shelter? You see where I am going with this? Not having an internet connection will not kill you - same with TV sets, iPads, cellphones, etc.

Spending money on things beyond your basic needs to survive is no different than owning high-end stuff. Average people can also live a life of luxury, we just don't realize it because we subconsciously set high standards as a society in order to justify our inability to attain them, hence it is then considered as "overspending." Cherry-picking? Absolutely.

      Delete
    2. Is flaunting them really necessary knowing they are public servants? That is very questionable. A lexus costs more than a million. You can do the math.

      Delete
    3. You don't have to saint to be appropriate for the environment, evne if you can afford or it is their right? It is not about your right but practicality. Dress for the occasion. Live for the environment. Flaunt your luxurious lifestyle, chaka naman ang kapaligiran. Nakakatawa lang, its like living in a "make believe", tyring hard lang. No matter what you say, even the most luxurious place in Manila is still ghetto to walk in your Gucci purse and Maserati to drive the pot holes. Even if you can afford, weird lang at trying hard.

  28. I will not be the one who is going to generalize all of them. Remember, not all congressmen are nouveau riche pag-upo nila. Ang iba mayayaman na talaga, they own massive lands and real estate even before they entered politics.

Yes yong iba, kawatan talaga, but wala naman cguro talagang malinis sa kanila. But yong iba afford nila yan kahit walang pork barrel.

I know a certain congressman na sa daming lupa, ipinamigay na lang yung iba sa mga tauhan nila. Lots of these politicians run for office just to protect their established businesses and not to steal. Yung pork barrel, barya lg c kanila yun, to be quite honest. Control lang ag gusto nila, so they run for a powerful position.

Ang point lang naman is unfair dun sa iba na can afford talaga. You can criticize them maybe for their debauchery and being ostentatious pero you know, d lahat parehas. Alam niyo 'yan.

Pero yung iba jan, talagang magnanakaw. Kakapal ng mga mukha.

  30. It's an open secret that they are corrupting us. Give people working in the govt protection as well kasi inaabuso sila ng mga politician and takot sila magsalita.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. The problem with your statement is that Ombudsman need to have, not only one, but multiple solid evidences before filing a case and pointing fingers to those politicians. EVEN IF it is an open secret
Maybe we should amend the constitution first?
After all, we do have a law that states that politicians should NOT own any luxury items car especially if NOT declared in their income statement

  34. Congresswoman Leni Robredo is DEFINITELY not one of them. The only car she has is, i think, Toyota Innova na nasa Naga City, Bicol.. seen her once in Q.C., naka taxi lang.. sa bus station din kita ko sya sumakay ng bus pauwi ng Naga. she's a very simple person just like her late husband Sir Jesse Robredo. Sana on 2016, she will run for Senator and then after, President naman.

May school, hospital, printing business family nila. Btw, i'm talking about the Olivarez family.

BUT HERE IS THE SAD PART - vote for an experienced politician who's already skilled at graft/corruption or vote for a newbie whose lack of experience is no-match against the bulok system. Though some are well-intentioned, most end up raping the country anyway. The well-off citizens are apathetic dahil nakikinabang; the poor and the working class is also apathetic dahil they have other basic needs to worry about. The religious prays for Perpetual Help while those in office seize the moment to perpetually help themselves.
