Poll: What are Your Thoughts on this Open Letter

Dear Philippine Fashion,

Just as any formal letter would go, we’d start by asking how are you? Over the past seasons we’ve seen you grow leaps and bounds. Look around and you will see a relatively thriving industry. And look at you, making waves across international shores. With this much attention I am sure we are all encouraged to step up our game to play with the big leagues abroad. Because you know what? We totally can.

Right about now everyone is talking about the 2013 Spring/Summer edition of Philippine Fashion Week. Spirits and anticipation are at a high. What will we see this season? Last season we took the liberty of listing basic fashion etiquette guests should keep in mind when watching the shows. This time we take to the opposite end and list down what we are tired of seeing go down the runway.

1.) Peplums. This may be a marginalized peeve but let’s move on from that trend. It was fresh at least three seasons ago but now it is just exhausting to look at. We’ve seen peplums in different variations and I think it is about time to give it a rest. There are other ways to go about accentuating the waist area, I’m sure.

Special mention goes to the other runway favorite, the mullet skirt. Enough said.

2.) Remember when seasoned models were falling one by one on the catwalk? Yes, that one. While we are glad that designers are thinking of an entire look by having shoes made specifically for their shows. But please, test run those pairs first before sending them out. The models may be a pro at walking in sky-high heels but you never know what will go down (pun intended) the runway. Accidents happen and falling flat on the floor is not pretty. Don’t just make shoes just for the sake of. Function over form. As visually interesting (or editorial) as they may be, it must be carefully engineered to walk in real life. Oh and can we also step away from the heel-less shoes? Their statement has run out, I’m afraid.

3.) We know it’s your heart and soul walking out one ensemble at a time but by now we are all aware that your fashion shouldn’t be indulgent. Garments still have to sell at the end of the day. You want the guests to want your pieces. An over embellished, over designed, I-can-barely-move-or-sit dress is just that, indulgent. Strike that balance between designing for ones self and designing with a woman (or man) in mind. You’ll thank us later.

4.) I believe we’ve seen one too many a season of Project Runway to know that it gets crazy leading up to the show. Incidental problems will arise for sure. This however doesn’t give you the excuse to send down garments with unfinished hems or threads sticking out and catching wind. You wouldn’t want people in the first few rows to want to grab a pair of scissors and snip at the raw edges. You’ve all been given time to complete your collection, we hope you used the time wisely.

5.) Again, you wouldn’t want your guests to cringe at ill-fitting ensembles sashay on the runway. Fit is of utmost importance. You want to show everyone that your clothes can be made for them not I will make one in a generic size and hope it fits you.

6.) Originality is relative. However, I’m sure we understand how the Internet works right? Everyone is informed. You are without a doubt highly creative. Reference thoughtfully and come up with something brilliant as compared to being “totally inspired” by an existing collection from foreign shores. And don’t belittle your audience, some know their fashion and can pinpoint even the most obscure reference. Be very careful.

Other than those mentioned, you’re good to go. We don’t have control over what you ultimately did to your collection. We can only hope for stellar work. It’s your time to shine and with the current trajectory in mind a good chunk of you will hopefully not let us down. We are most definitely looking forward to seeing amazing fashion go down the runway. As Tim Gunn would always say, go out there and knock our socks off. It sure is an exciting time for Philippine fashion and boy are we glad to witness it.

Letter from a Reader: Shortchanging Fashionista

Dear Fashion Pulis,

I just want to let you know about this deceiving practice at a Fashion and Design School FS. The head of FS, who is a professional designer, had been doing this for a long time now. If you happen to call FS to inquire about their teaching staff, be prepared to be shocked by the names that you will hear – they are mostly beginners. The faculty is composed of their students who have just recently graduated in 2010 to 2012 with no proper training at all. At FS, there are only two names who are at most, familiar.

We all know how expensive it is to be educated in a fashion design school. The tuition and the materials alone will cost you an arm and a leg. Isn’t it but right that the school be armed with teachers with relevant skills and competency, along with pertinent experience to speak of – and not fresh graduates whose only qualification is their knowledge lifted from their textbooks? The backbone of any school rests in the quality of its teaching force which is the benchmark how your school will be judged.

This is very alarming.

And may I add that the teaching staff who handles the graduating students in creating their respective collections, to my knowledge is someone who only had done one collection showcase to his name – and that was his graduation collection in 2011! What right and credentials does he have to teach?

FP, I hope that your blog can help address this. I absolutely detest this system - this malpractice. FS had graduated not a few designers who are now well-known and respected in the industry, both local and international. It makes me cringe at the possibility of FS graduating lemons if this present system is not properly and seriously addressed – and in the process, damaging the good reputation of the school.

Effortless?

Troubled actress (TA) was seen in a mall with her current partner and his two children. Heads turned when TA loudly called out “Babe!” to her partner.

This public action attracted various reactions, as TA and her babe were still fresh from the controversy involving her family. Her family thinks she is still an innocent child, and portrays her as a helpless and vulnerable lady. How would they react when they find out that TA has been playing nanny to her partner’s kids?

Although the kids had their nannies, TA was seen following the kids around the store. Perhaps, TA thinks she can develop a close relationship with her partner’s children by literally being there with them. Of course, the kids are too young to notice. During that moment, it seemed that TA was acting the role of the nannies. At least TA is giving it a try.

There are plenty of well-dressed It girls on Instagram, but Filipino-American actress Liza Soberano is racking up likes for more reasons than one. A household name in the Philippines thanks to her frequent television appearances and upcoming titular role as the beloved comic heroine Darna, Soberano sports a carefully curated wardrobe that is a mix of tomboy and cool girl. With the help of her stylist, Perry Tabora, the 19-year-old has already figured out that switching gears with her fashion choices makes for a vital sense of personal style. She’ll move from ripped denim and ribbon chokers worn for a casual outing to princess-worthy couture for major red carpet events. “I always enjoy collaborating on looks with Liza,” says Tabora. “She’s so adventurous when it comes to trying out new styles and is always open to suggestions.”

Born in Santa Clara, California, Soberano moved to Manila with her family when she was 10. She caught the eye of talent scouts and was offered modeling gigs shortly after, but chose to commit herself to learning Tagalog, an Austronesian language widely spoken in the Philippines, in order to work in Filipino television and film. Mastering the language­ (she’s now fluent) opened doors, allowing her to work her way from small parts to a leading role in a romantic comedy. As Soberano’s profile rose, Tabora was there to guide her fashion sensibility, and over the past four years they’ve developed a winning formula. “Liza’s looks are always youthful, fresh, and with an understated elegance,” says Tabora. “To give [her outfits] that unique quality we always try to mix aesthetics.”

To create that look, the pair combines pieces from Filipino labels with statement items from Gucci, Tom Ford, Chanel, and her personal favorite, Dior. “[Liza] adores Maria Grazia Chiuri for Dior,” says Tabora, pointing to the corseted dresses featured in the brand’s Western-themed Resort collection as a good example. Even with her affinity for the classic European houses, supporting local talent remains a priority for Soberano, particularly when it comes to Manila-based designers Martin Bautista and Michael Cinco. “They both have that look that she gravitates to—feminine but with a modern kick,” says Tabora.

With her star on the rise and growing online presence—she boasts more than 5 million followers on Instagram alone—Soberano is a girl to watch. And with a Darna press tour on the horizon, there’ll be plenty of opportunities to surprise her fans on the red carpet. Says Tabora, “She’s like a blank slate for fashion.”

Zest is Dampened

Not too long ago, Passionate Actress PA was overwhelmed that her showbiz comeback would be very warmly welcomed by both her fans and colleagues - and for good reason. Then and now, PA exudes a fresh aura and a radiant positivity . To others, PA is a breath of fresh air, someone who is cool to work with. Indeed, she inspires without really trying.

It is no wonder that PA is besieged with offers from different networks. But like a true professional, she just doesn’t grab anything that comes her way. In television series for example, PA chooses only the roles that she can do justice to, carefully noting that she has self-imposed limitations to abide by. Yet, on the set, she always comes prepared for the demands of her work.

At the beginning of her latest series, PA enjoyed the camaraderie that she had with fellow actors, who are all respected in their fields. Everything went fine in the beginning until some tension started between her and Actress in Trouble AT.

PA is reportedly resentful of AT who, more often than not, is making work difficult not only for her but for other co-actors as well. On the set, both PA and AT often do scenes together - heavy scenes that is.

It started when AT comes to the set unprepared. You know, not studying one’s character and script will definitely cause major problems on the production as well as the cast. Reportedly, AT is very guilty of this. The characters of PA and AT require the both of them to be constantly in the scenes together.

However, PA resents it because she comes to the set well-prepared. Reportedly, their scenes together take as much as 4 to 5 takes everytime because AT often forgets her lines. PA has been complaining lately that among other things, having several retakes with AT takes too much of her time that would otherwise be spent going home early to be with her family.

Allegedly, PA made a request to the production to lessen her scenes with AT saying that it was draining her a lot of her energy. The request reportedly reached AT, and in no time the once sweet relationship between the two turned sour. It used to be that AT brought food for PA. Now, she had to stop it if only to telegraph her strong sentiments.

How long will their gap last? Perhaps, only the tail-end of their series can tell.

Not Jointly Enamored with His Charm

Confused star CS and robust actor RA are being hyped up by network to be the next big team to beat.

Trying to veer away from the typical to gamble on something fresh, a new loveteam is being cooked and hyped up by a tv network TN. The team looks really promising, with big potential to make “kilig.” Both are young and with good chemistry.

The girl, confused star CS is fresh yet can be versatile-looking on camera, with hot and talented actor RA giving a good combination. While CS had been paired with a popular actor PA in their successful project months ago, TN wants to test and mix their talents along to see which the public will bite the most.

The rumored ex-couple - CS and RA – both welcome their onscreen team up, even though their rumored romance did not have a good closure. RA reportedly failed to build on their special relationship due to professional and personal conflicts. It is close to saying that it was only CS who made the effort to make it work – thus kaput.

Amid all the mix-matching, a little problem lies with CS’s elder CE who doesn’t want her to be teamed up with RA. CE is so biased with PA who she wishes to be CS’ partner for good. CS was said to be blown away by PA’s treatment of her during and even after doing a project before. They were so close that PA went the extra mile of courting CE too, to win her over – and how? PA allegedly spoiled the overwhelmed CE in so many ways while rolling the carpet for CS who he treated like a princess.

To CE’s understanding, PA is the man for CS – no more, no less.

But TN insiders say that CE is not the network so she better shut up and stop meddling at all.

The Reality

The struggle is real and reality is a painful truth, that is, one’s success is not a guarantee that the subsequent one will be as big. When Popular Celebrity (PC) was given another solo project, his management had high hopes for ratings and network traffic. PC was fresh off a project and his Next One (NO) was expected to do well. However, as time passed, NO was not where it was expected to be.

The network’s think tanks could only scratch their heads at the failure of NO to meet expectations. The supporting cast was commendable and the script was unique. However, one factor seemed to continue to hound PC. Regardless of how the network has tried to veer away from focusing on a love interest, apparently, viewers find this factor important. In the case of PC, a leading lady is crucial to gain support, a reality that his management refuses to accept.

While working on NO, the network tried to pair off PC with Beautiful Girl (BG), who is considered a fresh face in the industry. Much was pinned on PC and BG. However, BG’s acting skills were too raw and could not match that of PC’s. Then, to the shock of BG, her character was killed off. This end was unexpected as prior preparations indicated that BG’s character will be until the end of NO. Other female leads suffered the same thing – the lack of chemistry with PC. Worse, fanatic followers of PC would lambast whoever is close to the actor on social media.

Finally, the creative team broached several ideas to improve NO. First, the team made a hard decision to make PC’s character unattached. Hence, no female partner will be included. Second, the entry of a controversial Senior Actor (SA) was seen as a possibility to boost interest in the show. SA would bring a different dimension in NO and challenge the skills of PC. However, SA has to wait until the fans are pacified, as he seems to be unwelcomed by the social media community. If strategies fail to lift NO, then the project would have to fold-up, as the network cannot afford to incur losses simply because PC has to stay afloat in his career.

Getting Into the Show

When a program of a network had to go through changes, the focus was on the replacement of hosts and other roles that the project needed. After thoroughly studying the roster of talents, the production wanted to give Articulate Celebrity (AC) the biggest break of her career. AC was going to be a fresh face and her inclusion would be a novel idea. Although she might be considered new, she already has a following with the young generation.

Unfortunately, AC did not make the cut at all, and the reason was not of her doing. When Network Personality (NP) got wind of the news that the production was ready to offer the job to AC, she decided to express her intention that she wanted that job. The move of NP was surprising, as the job was not exactly that big. After all, the focus of attention in the show was not on the hosts.

NP has proven herself in various fields and has been cherished by the network for so many years. She has done TV shows, movies, variety programs, etc. Name it, NP has done that type of project and has captivated the audience. Moreover, it’s not that she does not have a project, NP remains highly visible in media. It would also not be a question of finances, as NP seems to be wealthy enough to take it easy. Still, she wanted to be in that program and used her connections to make sure she gets the slot.

Exactly, as expressed, NP got her request and AC was out of the picture. The reason as to why NP wanted the gig is open to speculations. Kibitzers are wondering if NP wants more exposure and if she finds her list of shows to few for her to be visible enough. However, NP might actually just be wanting to experience the vibrant atmosphere of the said show and develop camaraderie with its loyal audience. With NP formally in, the production team would now have to consider that the treatment of NP would be befitting her status.

Making up an Image

Sometimes, an artist can already gain fame with one or two songs and hordes of followers. The challenge comes on sustain this fame for the artist who wants to establish a career. After all, a one-hit wonder is just a passing fancy for the public.

When Hit Singer (HS) broke into the music scene, she immediately gained the nod of the mainstream audience who were waiting for a new and fresh sound from new artists. Not only did HS receive the admiration of millennials, her song performances were appreciated across ages. Thus, her management knew HS was a potential star.

One song played on the radio or via online streaming sites is not enough if an artist wants to have a career in the entertainment industry. Hence, HS needed to go through the usual route of concerts on campus, provinces, or any event that required her talent. Her presence would mean much to the audience of such events.

However, as the gigs of HS continue, many have noticed certain traits that seem to contradict her image of being well-mannered and polite. Allegedly, HS has had several instances of coming late to her shows, which made the audience wait for hours just to see her perform. In a gig, HS showed up, performed, and asked the audience to sing with her. Nothing wrong with that, except that HS made the audience sing more than half way through her songs. HS excused herself by citing fatigue and throat issues. As for an encore number, as predicted, HS did not do any.

After performing, artists are usually requested to stay for photo-op with fans. With HS, such is impossible, as she refuses to pose with fans and simply walks away when her numbers are done. Allegedly, even the organizer of one of her concerts was unable to have a photo with her.

While her career seems to be moving up, HS might soon wake up to find out that she had lost her connection with the audience. Word travels fast these days and listeners sometimes consider the overall character of a performer before patronizing his/her music. Sooner or later, people might realize that the image HS is projecting contradicts her behavior behind the scenes. If HS continues with her aloof ways, which can be rude at times, she might just have to think if she wants to continue entertaining her audience.

Hounded by Change

Over the past few months, network strategists have been scratching their heads as to how they could have chosen a group of talented personalities who have wasted their opportunity to make it big. The members were virtual unknowns when they auditioned to become talents of the network. After besting many wannabees, the final names were chosen and the hard part began, that is, building their careers. Although group membership seems to be the most economical and practical way to promote and test who can last in the entertainment industry, the underlying and silent rule is that one must step up and show leadership. The group found one in Egotistical Singer (ES), as he had the most promise. His mall tours were well attended and he could act, too. Thus, ES got the breaks, but his attitude and rumors of going on extra bookings affected his movement.

Then, there was the Cutest One (CO). Even though he was talented, he just could not control his private moments. Age did not matter, as he opted to pursue love over anything else. Meanwhile, the Mature Talent (MT) seemed to be out of place among a group of seemingly innocent looking talents. However, rumors linking him to powerful personalities are making the rounds of the grapevine. One Member (OM) even lied about having a child and soon after, he had no choice but to reveal the truth. Similarly, Another Talent (AT) was already married and a father. As if personal life choices were not enough, Promising Personality (PP) was caught belittling talent. It was as though life was lived through freebies.

With a group that was aimed to inspire the youth, the management ended up with a scandal-ladened and controversial group. After reprimands, warnings, and evaluations, changes are allegedly about to be made to the team. As to who will stay and be replaced remain a mystery for now. Who knows, everyone might even be replaced or new faces might be added? All that is sure is that for anyone who gets booted out as a talent of the network, hundreds of fresh faces are just waiting to fill that vacancy.

Will This News Set His Direction?

Fresh off the source is the news that a young character actor (CA) is going to be a Daddy soon! While CA is a total package to make it big - looks, talent, and intensity, he is without a doubt always a magnet for scandals and intrigues. Notwithstanding, being hounded by talks of bad habits that had thwarted his career's positive trajectory. Many good opportunities that were supposed to land beautifully on his lap were lost in the process. His entry into showbiz was met with a big welcome owing to the fact that he comes from a family of thespians, who also answers to the label showbiz royalty. He did deliver in the beginning but as time went by, he allegedly fell into the habit that had greatly affected his performance and the family's professional image.

Now that talks are rife that he will be a father in a few months, will CA take his career more seriously this time and steer it into the right direction? Hopefully, he will be able to catch up with all the lost opportunities. It is never too late. Incidentally, CA has gone through a lot with the future mother (FM) of his child. Allegedly, FM was the one who got in the way of a network’s prized actress during an out of town taping, and was even threatened by the possibility that CA would drop her in favor of another actress who is now happily in the arms of a famous non-showbiz personality.

Hopefully, the arrival of his baby will bring more sense and direction into his life.

An Attempt to Return

Observers are waiting on the development of a controversial decision made Versatile Celebrity (VC). Sometime ago, she shocked the entertainment industry when she announced that she was signing up with Another Station (AS). That meant that rumors of her being unhappy with her Home Network (HN) were true. Adding more controversy was her public revelation of her ire against a Favorite Talent (FT) of HN.

VC needed a breath of fresh air and a change of environment. AS willingly accepted her and treated her like a queen. The moment she signed up, she was already given projects that showcased her various talents. Working with her former colleagues was also a bonus, as AS felt the welcoming atmosphere. Significantly, she was respected by the talents of the network and recognized for her performance.

Her fans noticed that despite the busy schedule AS had given her, VC had a lot of time to deal with personal matters. She was able to nurture her family and her other projects. AS gave her freedom to pursue other things, and it seemed VC was happy.

However, these days, VC is restless and has allegedly had a heart to heart talk with Her Manager (HM). VC wants to go back to HN, as she feels that she has lost luster and relevance when she made the move. Moreover, the promise of giving her a certain program did not materialize. Then, her movies are made by independent producers. Compared with HN, AS has no extensive means to promote her projects, which could have affected the below expectation performance of her movies.

There is a problem when it comes to her plan to return to HN. Over the years, VC said a mouthful on the practices or claims of box-office receipts of HN, and these statements could affect her chance for a comeback at the said station. Thus, if she’s bent on returning, she has to swallow her words. Meanwhile, HM is doing what he could in making the best decision for the career of VC. One thing for sure is that regardless of either network, VC will have a successful personal life, which is definitely much better than having new opportunities in the business.

Lack of Consideration

In this day and age, when people are supposed to be more understanding of the rights of others, stories of maltreatment of celebrities are still rampant. While many celebrities are known to be kind to their helpers and drivers, a very blessed celebrity couple seemed to have forgotten kindness and appreciation.

Actor Husband (AH) and Actress Wife (AW) both started in showbiz at a time when the industry needed fresh faces to be built up as teen stars. At that time, AH was not interested in AW, who was busy with building her career as a top dramatic teen actress. Years passed and circumstances allowed them to meet and fall in love with each other. AH and AW eventually had kids and the public started admiring them and praising the couple for such a lovely family.

This positive perception of their family was key to several endorsements, which added to the family income. While the kids seem to be uninterested in pursuing showbiz careers, they still manage to gain attention and admiration, as AH and AW have slowly introduced them to the public via endorsements and social media posts.

With everything seemingly perfect, their friends cannot understand why they often ask for referrals for a driver. Something smelled fishy given that no driver has lasted long with the family. Allegedly, AH and AW are the least ideal employers when it comes to treating their drivers. Imagine the daily grind of having to drive the kids to school early in the morning, then return to the house to pick up and drop off AH, and return again to get AW and bring her to work. By that time, the driver would then have to pick up the kids from school, and then AH and then AW.

As if the driving were not enough, the poor driver has no meal allowance and only gets whatever lunchpack the helpers send him. There is no time to rest as well because there are errands between trips. Give the traffic, the driver gets a piece of AH’s mind when he is picked up a bit late. Of course, one could probably last a bit longer if compensation were fair. Unfortunately, the salary does not match the effort the driver has to exert just to please AH and AW.

Just how bad is the reputation of AH and AW when it comes to treating help? Well, the agency has refused to send drivers and their friends change topics whenever they ask for assistance in finding a new driver. Perhaps, AH and AW should reflect on how they are treating common helpers. They are too blessed to become inconsiderate unkind.

Must Show Courage

Established Celebrity (EC) had to choose between humility and hunger. Hence, EC approached a Powerful Personality (PP) if she could have a project with the station. PP thought hard and consulted the higher ups for the decision.

Over the years, EC has worked in various projects that showcased her versatility in various talents. EC is a convincing actress in drama and comedy. She can even slay the competition in dance numbers and sometime ago, EC was synonymous to the latest dance craze. Although she practically grew up in showbiz, many of her life choices had an impact on her career as well as personal life. Her life is even more complex than the characters she has played in her projects.

As time passed, most of her earnings had been spent on a lifestyle that was hard to maintain. Later on, the projects stopped coming because EC preferred to have a private life. With no money coming in and a habit that needed to be supported, things spiraled for EC.

Friends tried to help EC get by. Famous Performer (FP) paid for her rent for a year and the money she earned for special appearances, such as showing up in campaigns, was gone. She could no longer approach FP, who has done much for her.

One way or another, EC would make rare appearances that were always savored, but such came with a price for the production. EC did not have the discipline that was expected from seniors, and thus, her lack of professionalism during certain moments affected the production. Consequently, the financial side of her projects suffered. That memory was still fresh in the mind of PP. In the middle of production, EC came to the set allegedly under the influence of a certain substance. Her behavior was noticeable, and the station would not tolerate such. The production had to adjust without EC.

Time flies and EC seemed to be in her best element when she communicated with PP. PP has had a soft spot for EC. As EC has gone through ways to rid of her habits, PP took her in and decided to offer EC a long contract. The terms would ensure that EC had income and would no longer resort to borrowing from friends.

EC was excited at the possibility of work. As read her contract terms, she paused for a few moments. A stipulation indicated that she would be sued if she gets back to her old habit or even if she gets associated with such. EC could not believe what she was reading, but between nothing and something, she signed the contract.

Are the Ladies Really Gravely Addicted to His Moves?

All things being equal, the man who is more physically attractive gets to have more perks in almost any situation – they are more desired, get paid more, higher self-esteem - like it or not, beauty connotes positivity.

It's not just about being tall, dark and handsome. There are special 'manly' qualities about guys that can make any woman fall over her knees. And it’s definitely not just about the looks, there's more. It's a surefire mix of both, physical attributes and all that important special touch.

Talented Actor TA's boyish appeal and to-die for cuteness was no doubt his and his alone. TA's fresh as a morning face had sent not a few beautiful women to go crazy, drool and follow him wherever. TA was definitely up on the popularity quotient – anything that moved adored him. He had it all: fame, impeccable confidence, sense of humor, charm. Oh well, this is about throwback of two decades.

So how is TA rating now? Well, he is still the same attractive man despite the years. People young and old still get hyper in his presence. Surprisingly, most of the women in his life haven’t gone out of oblivion. They still are desirable and controversial than ever, two of them very controversial.

TA for all his charm and appeal is not perfect and has “shortcomings” too. But make no mistake, he sure knows how to make up for it in that department. Ever the woman pleaser, TA's memories remain enduring to his many exes. He maybe publicly displaying love and affection towards his wife, but he knows how to have fun, too.

From among many, TA has a list of unforgettables as well. He and this younger award winning actress YA had an episode while working on a project as well as this other beautiful older actress OA. Both women are said to have gone mad over TA – and vice versa.

Indeed, some good things never last … to this day.

Just Another Diversionary Plot

When Pretty Star (PS) tugged at the heart of Acquiescent Actor (AA), he did not hesitate and agreed to meet PS. While his friends reminded AA of the pain PS has been giving him, he shrugged off their advice and said that it was his heart talking. Thus, PS came over to meet AA and a photo op found its way to social media.

Sometime ago, PS was marked as the next bright star of her home network. She had everything at her disposal and all she needed was to go with the decision and plan of the network. However, when her first project was announced, the reception was not warm at all towards the storyline. Thus, her launch had to take a backseat as new talents of the network were given more attention.

Finally, when her initial project was aired, her hype did not translate to ratings. The attention of the network fans were devoted to the new talents the network was developing. Worse, the camp of PS decided to make moves that backfired on the said talent. At the core of the controversy was AA, who tried to salvage his honor. Unfortunately, PS and company were too hard hearted to be moved. The public did not take this attitude well, and thus, PS became the least popular among the new talents of the network.

For damage control, PS contacted AA and projected that all was well between them in a major event. AA indeed hoped that all would be well after, but he was wrong. Right after the praises were published and PS gaining positive points, AA was relegated to the sidelines again. AA knew it was hopeless and thus, he moved on in his career. Meanwhile, PS continued to be enmeshed in controversy, which further increased her negative image. Thus, she has to wait for the right project to revive her career.

Unlike PS, AA has projects for the network, whereas PS has not really been seen in any homegrown teleserye lately. As her career is on a slump, her camp had to think of a way to bring back interest again. Thus, AA was once again needed. Her camp instructed PS to become chummy with AA and join him in certain activities. However, PS was cautioned not to post anything related to her and AA, so that she will not be accused of resorting to a ploy. The camp said to allow other media sites to pick up the story, as other sites will not make it obvious that her camp is indeed resorting to a cheap stunt.

When a photo of PS and AA surfaced, eyebrows were raised and comments on him being used by PS pervaded. As his friends chided him for being intelligent enough to know that he was once again being used, AA responded that he does not care. PS is very important to him and his actions are his way of helping her out. Further, he will do everything as long as she needs him.

Arguments Over Agreements

Cute Contestant (CC) of a reality show is in the midst of a tug-of-war between his Original Manager (OM) and Possible Pirate (PP). Long before CC appeared in public as a wannabee celebrity, OM had already seen his potential and signed him up for a number of years. Thus, when CC started becoming visible in media, little did he and his camp know that he had caught the eye of PP.

PP is a veteran personality in the local entertainment industry, who has earned the respect of colleagues for doing his job for many years. Allegedly, he gave CC that second look and made his heart feel younger than reality. PP watched CC from afar until introductions were made.

As PP has been in the industry for many years, he already has an extensive network of contacts that could help CC gain fame and flourish in his career. Not only is PP connected to a management, as he also has many friends who can give CC publicity. Meanwhile, OM is a small fry compared to PP.

PP approached the camp of CC and promised an Influential Relation (IR) possible gigs and endorsements for CC. His intention was to manage CC and get OM out of the way. IR was overwhelmed at the possibilities of CC if they take the offer of PP. Besides, PP has been giving gifts to CC to expand his wardrobe.

When OM was asked if CC could get out of his contract, the answer was, of course, negative. OM stressed that he has a live contract.

According to the grapevine, IR and OM are no longer talking to each other. CC, meanwhile, is in a quandary. He is still considered a fresh entrant in the industry and yet, he already has the weight of controversy hounding him.

Reassessing a Career

When a network decided to gamble on a non-tested but Appealing Personality (AP), the management was unsure if AP could deliver. After all, he was unknown and giving him an opportunity that has eluded most of the talents was bound to create controversy. The project was a hit and the network saw the potential of AP, but he was still a newbie. Nonetheless, the audience wanted to see more of AP, and the network gave in by casting him as lead in a low risk project (LRP).  

LRP had a typical plot. The cast comprised a set of new talents, whom the network was building up as next important stars, and seasoned talents who often played supporting roles effectively. The fresh face of AP was a factor that made the audience curious. In a few weeks, the network finally coveted the top place in a timeslot that has eluded their shows for years.

Once again, AP proved he could make a career out of looking good. With his success, he ventured in various business interests and the public patronized his endorsements. As all good things must come to an end, LRP wrapped up its last episode with all major performers getting noticed and assurance of a wider fanbase. Handling success in a field where he is considered new, was quite difficult for AP. While he seemed charming in front of the camera, some fans were saddened at his lack of interaction during mall shows. His contemporaries would be game to have selfies with fans, but AP was aloof. While things were supposed to go up, his next project, which people predicted would be another hit, was cancelled. In a snap, AP was left out in the cold. Business slowed down as well, as he was not as visible as before.

After sometime, AP finally landed a project with Cute Actor, but the expectation was not met. The project hardly made an impact. Months passed and the management remembered AP. He was given an important role in a project. Unlike LRP, this new project struggled with ratings to the point that sometimes, the rival show would have a higher rating every so often.

As soon as things settled, AP realized that if he wanted to continue his career, he has to reconnect with his followers and be humble. He has to use social to expand his reach. High visibility in technology can endear him with the audience. The question is if it’s not too late yet to establish better ties with his fans. One moment, you’re the toast of your network, then the next, you’re struggling and not knowing if you will get a next project. Such is the fickle-mindedness of showbiz.

Changes Out of Love

Love can indeed do wonders. The colleagues of Dramatic Actor (DA) are amazed at his transformation in a matter of months. DA would be at his taping smelling fresh as a daisy and conscious of his looks and over all bearing. Such is a far cry from the times when he would merely go to his assignments without really caring much how his looks could not hide his lack of hygiene.

Over the years, DA developed bad health habits. Instead of keeping up with his grooming, he appeared as he wanted or as his roles demanded. Sometimes, he would say it’s part of getting into his character, but the thing is, his co-workers could not stand how some sort of smell would come from him. As polite as they are, no one could really say it straight to him until Lovely Woman (LW) came into his life.

When DA and LW met, they were smitten with each other. Both uncommitted at that time, they hit it off. However, LW was so different from the other women who were once linked to DA. LW was brutally honest. Point blank, LW said that she liked DA but things have to change. LW pointed out that neatness is a must and DA must change his habits or else.

LW wants a neat man and he followed. First, DA made sure he had his hair always washed, trimmed, and combed. His nails have to be clean and trimmed as well. Then, DA had to confront his fear and had to have his system checked. He sought a doctor who gave him proper advice on medication and diet to make sure his breath smells clean. Making sure he had mouthwash was something LW advised.

Next, his wardrobe habits changed, too. No longer does he wear unwashed clothes, socks included. His clothes are all arranged and no more repetition of already worn clothes.

Finally, a Marie Kondo moment happened. He had to clean up his pad, which some of his colleagues allegedly described as smelling like a dead rat. His sink would overflow with unwashed dishes as well. Today, such is a thing of the past. His pad is clean and neat. DA even hired a cleaner to make sure everything is spic-and-span and smells like eucalyptus.

Cupid must have aimed the arrow directly at DA’s heart. LW did what previous partners and friends could not do to DA. With DA following LW’s advice, he’s rewarded with her undivided and exclusive attention. Who knows, their exclusively dating status might even become more serious.
