Reality Revealed
As many celebrities opt to invest their earnings into businesses and run it themselves, more eyes are on their moves. For example, when a celebrity opens a restaurant, expect the customers to scrutinize every detail such as food and service. Treatment of workers often comes into question when the employment practices of the celebrity-owner are revealed.
While many celebrity businesses pride themselves in practicing good employment relations, others are not exactly ideal. For instance, a celebrity-owner (CO) is proud of the businesses she has opened. CO brags not only about the supposed profitability of the businesses, but more so of the intangible positive practices her businesses follow.
Supposedly, another goal of her businesses is to help others by inspiring them to become entrepreneurs. The sad reality is that the employees of the businesses CO runs believe she relegated their welfare. Complaints of low wages as well as lack of commissions bothered such employees. Even if the business seemed to be doing well, the practices CO stresses have not trickled down to her employees. Her own people wondered why CO emphasized external effects but neglected the internal matters that affected her company directly.
‘If you're going to preach dedication, work ethic, teamwork, unselfishness, and being part of a team to accomplish a common goal, you have to live it - you can't just talk about it.’ — Chris Mullin
