Repost: ABS-CBN Pays P152M to Settle Tax Debt

The Court of Tax Appeals (CTA) has approved the amicable settlement for the P152 million in tax debts of television network ABS-CBN with the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR).
The two parties sued for the out-of-court settlement of the case to avoid long and expensive court litigation.
The assessed liabilities covered 40 percent of the basic deficiency income, value-added and documentary stamp taxes
It also included 100 percent of the basic expanded withholding tax and withholding tax on compensation.
In approving the amicable settlement. CTA stated that both the Civil Code and the Revised Rules of Court instruct the courts to persuade litigants to enter into a compromise.
The agreement was signed by BIR Commissioner Caesar R. Dulay and the network’s chief finance officer Aldrin Cerrado.

Cannot Just Stay Put

Staying on top of the list of talents of a network requires much work and mindfulness. A slight slip can lead to a fast-downward movement and send all the hard work down the abyss. Moreover, every talent should keep in mind that he/she is only as good as his/her last project.
A few years ago, Pretty Actress 1 (PA1) and Pretty Actress 2 (PA2) where among the most popular and requested talents of a network. PA1 started with controversial projects that caught the attention of the public. After just a few successes, PA1 and PA2 seemed to be on their way to stardom. However, bashers came with their quests for fame and soon, PA1 and PA2 had enough and they started to feed their detractors. Such action, that is, answering bashers in the same rude manner, was not a productive move. Consequently, PA1 and PA2 lost a number of followers.
The negativity surrounding the attitude of PA1 and PA2 soon took its toll on their respective careers. PA1 was shamed whenever she posted anything on her social media accounts. The attacks worsened as she was accused of causing her relationship with an actor to fail. By contrast, PA2 admitted to having a close relationship with a Network Talent (NT), which turned out for the better. NT managed to change his life around to prove his love for PA2. However, the cost of loving NT was losing career opportunities for PA2.
Instead of rising about the negative issues surrounding them, PA1 and PA2 continued with their haughty attitude, which directly affected their careers. In the case of PA1, her projects were turning out to be flops. As for PA2, her coworkers could not stand her, and thus, she was taken out of her project. The lack of projects, however, did not stop PA1 and PA2 from hoping that they would be noticed once again and given assignments. According to the grapevine, the network has offers for the two but these roles are merely support. Who knows, they might suddenly be given mother roles to newbies in the network. Such would be a blow to the two and thus, they would rather be choosy.
Having been off cam for a substantial amount of time, PA1 and PA2 are looking into possibilities of moving to another network. The two realized that their present status in the network is no longer being given priority. While their respective partners are doing well, PA1 and PA2 are in the opposite and thus, feelers have been sent to an interested network. All negotiations are tightly-wrapped, as the two might merely be using rumors of moving as a bargaining chip so that their present network will not let them go. The other concern is if they could leave their respective partners, whose careers are stable in the old network.
