Wasting Valuable Wisdom

When Businessman Philanthropist (BP) entered into a venture with Shrewd Host (SH), he was not prepared for the eventual reaction of SH later on. The partnership of BP and SH aimed to create a landmark that would attract investors in an already saturated yet lucrative area. Initially, the public thought that the project was going to be funded solely by SH, and that idea raised a lot of eyebrows at the actual amount SH was earning then. After a few months, the name of BP cropped up, and thus, people were relieved as SH was with someone who knew the business.

Based on their life stories, BP and SH started from the lowest ranks and through dedication and hard work, they managed to amass their fortune. Soon, BP became a well-respected personality in high profile fields, and in the process, he got involved in showbiz. Meanwhile, SH has been in the business for a time, and he was a virtual unknown until the stations started noticing his talent and rapport with the audience. Thus, with a blink, SH was plummeted into the limelight, which resulted in his accumulation of fame and undisclosed finances.

As their project began, BP became uneasy with the idea that SH allegedly has an addiction to a vice that might affect their venture. Thus, BP attempted to talk to SH about the said addiction and make him stop. As a concerned partner and respected personality, BP was in the position to talk some sense into SH, or so he thought.

After giving his advice, BP was unprepared for the reaction of SH. SH replied that he was not using the money of BP, so BP does not have the right to tell him what to do. Remaining the gentleman that he is, BP remained calm at the tactless and disrespectful reaction of SH. BP left, but vowed to never ever speak to SH again. On hindsight, people are wondering what made BP agree to do business with SH when he has the resources to finish their project on his own. However, since BP has been enmeshed in the business and has made an empire out of it, he probably knew that SH could add mileage to the publicity of their project and expand their clientele.

Donald Trump: Miss Colombia Must Remain Grounded

Wearing her topaz- and sapphire-studded, $300,000 crown, the newest Miss Universe — Paulina Vega, hailing from Colombia — addressed throngs of international reporters at Trump National Doral Miami late Sunday night.

“It is amazing,” she said of the crown after pausing for photos in her sparkling silver gown. “It’s very new, very modern, it’s very different. I will wear it with pride and excitement.”

The conference, which also included Donald Trump, came after Doral and its surrounding areas were showcased for millions of viewers around the world as Vega was named Miss Universe at Florida International University.

Vega, who hails from Barranquilla, was emotional as she received her crown. The runner-up was Miss USA Nia Sanchez.

At the resort, she said being in Doral “felt like I was in Colombia with my people.”

The coronation comes after the pageant’s 88 contestants spent about three weeks in the Miami area getting a taste of South Florida, participating in parades, attending photo shoots and visiting local attractions.

Broadcast on NBC and Telemundo, the pageant included snippets of the women at the beach in Key Biscayne, painting a mural with Romero Britto in Wynwood and lounging at the pool at Trump National Doral, the host resort.

Real-estate mogul Trump was featured in a short video about Doral that highlighted its growth and why it’s a great place to live, work and play.

“That really says it all,” Trump said.

At the news conference, Trump announced that the pageant will now be aired for at least five years on Univision instead of Telemeundo.

He called it a “major,” announcement

Earlier in the day, the Trump National Doral was awash in glamor and gowns on the red carpet hours before the real-estate mogul’s 63rd Miss Universe pageant was set to begin at nearby FIU and thanked Telemundo for their past relationship.

Press members from all over the world eagerly awaited the arrival of celebrities, which included judges, performers and beauty queens.

“You guys are doing a great job,” Trump told the group of reporters as he took the red carpet.

Despite some controversy leading up to the main event — Miss Lebanon took a selfie with Miss Israel, and Doral’s mayor said Trump didn’t deserve a key to the city — the excitement for the pageant Sunday was palpable.

One of the judges, Project Runway fashionista Nina Garcia, naturally, said she was “looking forward to seeing all the dresses.”

Across town at FIU’s arena, early arrivals wearing sparkling gowns and carrying flags from different countries waited patiently to get into the show.

“This is a dream come true,” said Nathalie Soler, 23, who was wearing her Miss Hialeah sash proudly. “It’s not as superficial as people think. It is a beautiful way to bring people together.”

The journey to becoming Miss Universe began with a preliminary competition Wednesday, where judges whittled the group down to 15 finalists from 88 contestants.

The broadcast began with each woman showing off a costume that represented her country, which was filmed Wednesday. Miss Indonesia was voted by fans as the favorite. Then the finalists were named: Colombia, Italy, India, France, USA, Indonesia, Venezuela, Spain, Philippines, Argentina, Jamaica, Ukraine, Brazil, Netherlands and Australia.

To the sounds of Prince Royce, the 15 women showed off their pink bikinis, showing off taut tummies and ample cleavage. Viewers also learned about the women, who volunteer for various organizations, go to school and help their communities.

Then came the 10, who showed off their evening gowns as Nick Jonas performed Jealous. Eliminated were: Italy, India, France, Indonesia and Brazil.

The final five — USA, Jamaica, Colombia, Netherlands and Ukraine — answered two questions each: one by the judges and one by fans.

After the three-hour show, the winner was crowned by outgoing Miss Universe Gabriela Isler, from Venezuela.

“Lots of excitement,” said co-host Natalie Morales as Vega hugged her fellow contestants.

The excitement would continue late into the night with an after-party. Before Trump and Vega took off, Trump had some advice for Vega: “She has to remain grounded,” he said.

Noting Her Sincerity for Love

The career of Discovered Talent (DT) is not as controversial as her contemporaries in the show where she started. As one of the pioneering winners of the said show, DT was among the few who were given breaks and good publicity by the network (TN). Soon, DT was cast in various projects and she even played lead roles in some of them. However, DT was not the big winner and thus, her chances of landing more lead roles were slim, especially when the top winner made a comeback.

When DT made the big move to an energetic network (EN), reactions were mixed as some were surprised that she opted to leave than maintain her loyalty. In EN, she had the chance to work with major stars in showbiz, which she was unable to do in TN. Although DT can competently act, she lacked mass appeal and worse, her move to EN did not do much to keep her well publicized.

Stories that are often linked to DT focus on her relationships, as DT has always been known to have long-term non-showbiz boyfriends. Thus, when she announced that she has quietly married her boyfriend (BF), no one was surprised. Although she kept her relationship private, the fact that they have been together for sometime was well known.

However, one surprising detail that leaked was the circumstance prior to the marriage of DT to BF. BF is the scion of actress-businesswoman (AB), who quietly did well in her venture in agriculture. Hence, BF has access to many properties as well as resources. To avoid the messy division of properties in case their marriage breaks apart, DT signed a prenuptial agreement.

Of course, signing a prenup does not mean that DT does not have money, as she has been working since she started her career. Perhaps, BF and his family were just making sure that they he and DT will not end up like famous couples whose failed marriages resulted in costly cases. The lack of a prenup agreement is often disadvantageous to the one who worked hard to build up the conjugal property. Moreover, some parties broke off their relationships for not wanting to sign a prenup.
