Alden Richards' Album Turns Platinum

Alden Richards’ album under GMA Records “Wish I May” is certified a platinum hit! Prior to its release, it had already reached the Gold mark, mostly from pre-order sales. The same-titled carrier single has also garnered close to 329,000d views on YouTube.
Launched over the weekend at SM City North Edsa, fans braved the rains caused by Typhoon Lando to support Alden’s budding musical career.
The album has 11 tracks: five song cuts, five instrumentals, and an acoustic version of its carrier single. The five song cuts include covers of Brian White’s God Gave Me You and Ed Sheeran’s Thinking Out Loud, as well as original compositions Urong Sulong and Wish I May.
Alden’s Wish I May, the theme song of GMA’s weeknight series of the same title, is currently the top Philippine album on iTunes. As the most downloaded song on Apple’s music site, it has beaten Justin Bieber’s What Do You Mean and Taylor Swift’s Wildest Dreams.
If the album’s consistent following is sustained, Wish I May could join the elite circle of artists with multiple-platinum hits that include Jose Mari Chan, Nora Aunor and Jessa Zaragoza.

The hashtag #ALDUB, which people all over the world are seeing over and over again as the top trending topic on Twitter, pertains to a Filipino onscreen couple, reel lovers, Maine Mendoza and Alden Richards. The two are now considered a power couple that has achieved a global phenomenon.
The hashtag was born out of combining Richards’ first name Alden and Mendoza’s screen name, Yaya Dub, which she used in Philippine noontime show “Eat Bulaga.” Their onscreen chemistry can be compared to that of Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling in “Crazy, Stupid, Love.” Except that Mendoza and Richards are yet to have a movie. What they have is a mini-TV series shown everyday during lunch hour in the Philippines.
Nevertheless, the onscreen couple was already dubbed as a global phenomenon by Twitter Asia Pacific and Middle East Vice President, Rishi Jaitly. According to a report from Rappler, the reel sweethearts garnered a record 26 million tweets on Sept. 26 with the hashtag #AlDubEBforLove. In an interview with Rappler, Jaitly noted that this was just short of a couple of million tweets to break the record global tweets for Super Bowl XLIX in February 2015.
Jaitly said that the recorded tweets for the couple in September had surpassed the tweets about the 2015 MTV Video Music Awards – this was despite the mini-TV series starring Mendoza and Richards being a 30-minute segment, and in spite of Miley Cyrus hosting the MTV awards. Not to mention that Kanye West also announced he was running for president in 2020 during the recently held MTV.
Jaitly told Rappler that Twitter had initially doubted the authenticity of the tweets pertaining to ALDUB but they found out that they were wrong. “This is such a global phenomenon, as I said, that we had to look internally to make sure that these tweet volumes were in fact authentic. But this is real, this is not a sideshow, this is real media being creative,” Jaitly told Rappler.
In a separate report from Rappler, Broadway artist and international celebrity Lea Salonga came under fire when she tweeted something that was misunderstood by fans as criticism of the power couple. According to a report from BITBAG, rapper Dawin thanked the power couple for using his song “Dessert” in their miniseries. The international band Lifehouse also invited Mendoza and Richards to watch their concert. Broadway producer Shea Arendar also expressed desire to cast the two for his new comedy musical.

ONE player of the Ateneo Blue Eagles has found himself at the center of a storm - and it has nothing to do with Typhoon Lando or basketball for that matter.
Ateneo sophomore John Apacible has been identified by multiple sources as the 'drunk driver' flashing a 'councilor' vanity plate who caused a commotion along timog Avenue in Quezon City around midnight of Sunday.
A video shared by our sister site Top Gear which has seen gone viral showed a young man who the owner of the video, a certain Yan Bote, claimed was very drunk and had hit a driver of a delivery van and harassed other drivers.
The three-minute, 28-second video also saw the man challenging the one who was taking a video to a fight before he was allowed to leave by responding policemen and traffic enforcers.

The video has caused widespread anger on social media.
A check done by Top Gear editors on the identity of the allegedly drunken driver led them to believe the man is a player from a top university currently seeing action in the college basketball leagues.
Given the lead, Spin.ph did its own checking through sources and confirmed that the man is really Apacible, a 6-3 forward who is in his second season with the Blue Eagles in the UAAP after a stint with Hope Christian in high school.
At least three players have identified Apacible as the one in the video. They have also identified him through the car he was driving during the commotion.
This was later confirmed by Ateneo school officials who came out with a statement on the incident saying Apacible has apologized for his 'reprehensible behavior' during the incident.
At posting time, Ateneo coaches and school officials were in a meeting to discuss the incident after vowing 'appropriate and swift' action for what they described as Apacible's 'unacceptable behavior.'
Top Gear editors also said it was Apacible's girlfriend who apparently owns the 'councilor' vanity plate he was flashing before traffic enforcers during Sunday's incident.

If She Goes, I Go, Too

In mainstream entertainment industry, the audience is king. Thus, networks are pressured to give in to the demands of viewers to make sure that loyalty is retained. Social media has become a main factor in gauging the feelings of the audience. With a few hundred characters or a thousand words, followers can express their reaction to their favorite shows or celebrities. Today’s netizens can sometimes be impatient and want their requests, if not demands, to be acted on by the network immediately.
If things were easily run that way, all viewers will be happy because they will be getting what they want to see on free TV. However, strategies and interests prevail in the running of any show. On one hand, certain celebrities are seen on TV more often because the management has plans for them even if such celebrities still have to win the favor of the viewers. On the other hand, some celebrities, even if they have strong social media following, are not seen as often because of management decision. For instance, celebrities might be difficult to work with, have attitude problems, or have difficulty blending with the group. Expect such celebrity to have less exposure.
Other than audience and celebrity factors, sponsorship and endorsements can come into play. If a celebrity is a favorite endorser of a sponsor of the show, then that celebrity will definitely have his/her time on screen. Without ads, a show might simply fold up regardless of the talent or star power of the cast. In other words, maintaining top ratings is complicated.
Nonetheless, the most significant factor to consider is the performance of shows that share the same time slot. If a rival show suddenly introduces an innovation and ratings surge out of nowhere, expect the other shows to change their strategy to make sure the present viewers are retained and new ones are gained.
When a station risked changing the usual format of shows for a particular time slot, many viewers were surprised that the other station (OS) suddenly changed its time-tested format. Instead of seeing the most anticipated performances of their idols, fans were treated to skits and games. Thus, the change was met with varied reactions. First, the change was abrupt, and was thus perceived as a reactionary move to counteract the rival network’s new show. Second, fans were not happy to see their idols acting, which is something that they have been doing for days. Third, some segments seemed off.
The feedback was not what the network had expected. Most were negative and demanded the removal of the segments that were introduced. Further, when the new segments will be removed, Fiery Host (FH) will be taken out as well. Allegedly, netizens found the style of FH annoying, as she puts the guests on the spot. Of course, fans are not too keen on seeing their idols placed in potentially embarrassing situations on live TV.
FH got wind of the possibility that she might be removed, she sought comfort with a Major Celebrity (MC). MC was sympathetic to the concern of FH and promised to do what she could to help FH secure her spot in the show. MC approached the production and hinted that she will leave the show if FH is removed. The statement was simple, yet crucial, because MC has a huge following and her leaving will certainly stir up intrigue. So, will MC stand in the way of improving the show, or will the network do what it intends to and say “bye” to MC? Thus, viewers can stay put and pass around the popcorn.

Lawyer on CA Order: No Need to Arrest Willie, He Already Posted Bail

Willie Revillame's lawyer clarified that the television host has already posted bail for charges of child abuse and child exploitation, even before the Court of Appeals' decision to uphold a trial court's warrant of arrest against him.
"He has posted bail after the criminal information was filed by the city prosecutor for Quezon City. In effect, there is no need for a warrant of arrest," Revillame's legal counsel Nards De Vera told GMA News Online.
News reports indicated that the CA ruling ordered Revillame's arrest, which his camp is seeking to clarify.
"We want to correct that misimpression that the court of appeals has ordered his arrest. What the CA said that it is okay for the RTC to issue a warrant of arrest so that Willie could be arraigned," said the lawyer.
In the decision penned by Associate Justice Ma. Luisa Quijano-Padilla dated September 7, 2015, the appeals court's 13th division held up the warrant issued by Quezon City Regional Trial Court Judge Roberto P. Buenaventura for Revillame's arrest because of probable cause.
"When the CA made the decision, it only merely said that the judge was correct in finding the probable cause," De Vera said.
The lawyer also said the new development would allow Revillame to have his day in court.
"Let the trial proceed so that the government can prove its case and Willie can exercise his right in the trial. That's all it meant," he said.
"I hope we would emphasize is what the CA is saying is you may proceed for the trial so that the guilt or innocence of Willie can be determined by the court.
"So now we will proceed with the trial."
'No evidence of child abuse'
The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) filed the complaint for violation of Republic Act 7610 or the Anti-Child Abuse Law before the Quezon City Prosecutor's Office after receiving complaints about an incident in Revillame's defunct show "Willing Willie" that featured a six-year-old boy performing gyrating dance moves in 2011.
But De Vera defended his client, saying there is no evidence supporting the charges.
"There is no evidence that there was child abuse. Number one the child, the mother, the father, never complained. In fact sabi nila they are very grateful dahil na boost 'yung confidence nung bata... Nakakatuwaan siya ng mga tao,"
"We'll just proceed with the case and we are confident that the evidence will show that there is no truth to the complaint filed against Willie."
