Newbie Admits His True Preference

Every person has a secret that he/she knows can lead to potential consequences in the future. For people who have made a living based on an image, any secret that can affect such image is usually denied or referred to as fiction written by detractors. However, as time moves and evidence surfaces, the secret has to be admitted publicly. Depending on circumstances and the reputation of the person, the public can be receptive and forgiving, or express disappointment.
In showbiz, fans have been accustomed to their idols hiding secrets that can ruin their intended reputation. These so-called secrets revolve around drug addiction, drinking to the brink, womanizing, and being a parent during teen years. While society has been trying to open up to accepting one’s true sexual preference, coming out of the closet will always be perceived as the end of the career of any talent in local showbiz.
Most networks believe that the local audience has a difficult time in separating the onscreen and offcam image of actors. Therefore, any item concerning the sexuality of their talent is immediately suppressed by publicity refuting such. For instance, whenever someone is doubted as gay, expect that the next item about him will be about his new girlfriend. This action will save the career of the actor for the meantime.
Now, what happens if a budding actor reveals the truth about his preference to the network? Will that guarantee the support from his network? In the case of Cutie Hunk (CH), he seems to be quite visible these days via supporting roles in several flagship projects of his network. Although he might not be as good looking as some matinee idols, he makes up for this lack with his bubbliness and talent. Besides, he has an appeal that makes him pleasant to watch onscreen. Unlike others who achieved fame via reality shows, CH has a more secure position. He was launched as part of the steady talent pool of the network, which could also explain why he has many projects.
Typical of showbiz talents, CH has his own secret that he probably divulged under pressure. During an interview with Network Executive (NE), CH revealed something about himself that could either show him out of the door or make him interesting for some powerful predators. NE asked CH his preference under the rationale that in case an issue crops up, the network would know how to defend him. Thinking he could trust NE, CH said that he swings both ways, and admitted his bisexuality. NE did not flinch and moved on to the next unrelated question. Is this revelation a good move on the part of CH? Being new in the business, CH can only trust so few. Hopefully, the few will not use the information to take advantage of CH.

What Comes Around Goes Around

Years ago, Prolific Actor (PA) had a very controversial relationship with Feisty Actress (FA). At that time, FA was recognized as one of the country’s effective actresses, as she can be convincing in antagonistic roles. When FA met PA, she was so smitten that she almost became obsessed with PA.
During their relationship, people did not expect that PA would be fathering a child (AC) with FA. To make matters worse, PA became doubtful if he were indeed AC’s father. Eventually, the relationship of PA and FA ended, and to cut the long story short, FA had to leave the country with AC to find peace. Her staying in the country was no longer pleasant, as PA ignored her. Given that PA had an excellent relationship with the press and a positive image then, FA was pictured as someone who was trying so hard to impose herself on a man who does not love her. Other than having to deal with rejection, FA had to be reminded that she was part of a glorious family, who was no longer amused at the dirt being slugged at her then.
As AC grew up, his resemblance to PA was undeniable. By this time, PA had already claimed to have found his ideal woman and had settled down. He was already financially stable and maintained that image of being a perfect family man. The acting genes could not be denied, and soon AC returned to pursue his own career.
Unfortunately, PA still had misgivings if AC were really his child. AC tried hard to establish closeness with PA, but the latter was quite aloof. AC merely wanted recognition, which seemed hard for PA to do. PA made AC live in a separate house. While his wife then would have understood the situation, PA made sure AC did not cross paths with his family. PA, meanwhile, was advised by peers to accept AC as his son because their looks were undeniable. Thus, PA had no choice, but to acknowledge that he has another son.
When things seemed to fit in, things did not turn out ideally for PA. His image as the perfect family man crumbled because he succumbed to his weakness: women. Thus, the ideal woman whom he thought to be his true love had enough and exposed PA for who he really is. His career at the moment is not going anywhere as well. He has not projects and is embroildered in his latest controversies as well. As for FA, she’s back and sometimes makes rare appearances in media. By contrast, AC is slowly carving his name in various acting assignments.

Second Warning for Vice Ganda: Don’t Repeat ‘Gay Bar Show’ or Else

Being naughty – or notorious –- has its price as TV celebrity Vice Ganda is finding out.
Cebu City Hall treasury employees were sent to his Cebu concert on Sunday evening to check gate receipts to implement the full 10 percent amusement tax on ticket sales.
While the final tally is still being made, on-site observations by Cebu Daily News showed a packed ballroom at the Waterfront Cebu City Hotel and Casino. Not all guests held full-priced tickets. Buy-one-take-one tickets were snapped up.
A big crowd came despite the publicized take-down of the concert’s promotion billboards the other week on orders of the head of the Cebu City Anti-Indecency Board (CCAIB), City Administrator Lucelle Mercado, who said the images were “sexually suggestive.”
The concert was self-rated by organizers as R-13 or restricted to adults.
LIKE A GAY BAR SHOW
Mercado didn’t watch the show but said she received feedback from City Hall personnel present who compared it to a “gay bar show” with off-color jokes and sensuous dance moves.
“The show itself should not be like that. I asked from those who attended and they said it was very suggestive, like a performance in a gay bar. That’s not allowed. We are strict about that. We can’t have those kinds of shows,” she told CDN.
Mercado yesterday said she asked a certain city official to relay to concert organizers another warning against holding a similar concert again in Cebu City or else the city would impose a fine as violation of City Ordinance 1408 which creates the CCAIB.
Mercado said most concerts held in Cebu showcase singing, dancing and music performances. CDN observed the venue was packed with all seats occupied. Some guests had to stand near the exit doors of the Pacific Grand Ballroom of Waterfront Cebu City Hotel and Casino throughout the concert.
Upper and lower box seats were fully occupied. Fan clubs like the “Little Ponies” and “ViceRylle” brought their banners and streamers. On stage, ,there were no shirtless , muscled men lying down or surrounding the gay comedian as the billboards portrayed.
Vice Ganda did his first song-and-dance numbers in a long, blonde wig and glittering black unitard with boots, that showed the tops of his thighs.
Only two male dancers with blonde topnots and harem pants accompanied him, not the crowd of glistening macho companions shown in the poster.
He later changed to an oversized, pull-over shirt with a delicate cartoon drawing of Vice Ganda’s face on the front. He paired it with thigh-high black leather boots.
In his opening spiel, the popular Kapamilya celebrity, who has 2.1 million followers on Instagram and 5.4 million on Twitters, jokingly thanked the CCAIB for the hype it caused over the billboards, saying the concert was “sold out”.
The same message appeared in his website: “ViceGandangGandaSaSarili sa Cebu Concert is sold out. Daghang salamat Cebuanos for the love.”
Mercado, CCAIB chairperson, took it calmly.
“If they’re looking at it that way, that it helped, then that’s fine,” Mercado told CDN later.
”But it doesn’t really matter. The action was done because of our objection to the (billboard) layout that was presented,” Mercado told CDN, who stressed that one was positioned in front of a public elementary school in plain view of pupils.
She said what was important was that the city was able to take down the billboards for the “adults only” music concert.
BUY-ONE-TAKE-ONE
Cebu City Treasurer Diwa Cuevas said her staff were fielded to check on ticket sales at the gate during the concert.
She gave a different impression of the attendance of paying guests.
“Actually, most of the tickets used were complementary. Daghan kaayo. There were also buy-one-take one tickets. When I went inside, there were a lot of vacant seats,” said Cuevas who watched the concert.
She said concert organizers TSE Live Inc. paid the city an initial P20,000 but the treasurer’s office still had to check and count tickets received at the gate.
Stubs of paid tickets are torn off and collected. Stubs of complementary tickets or the free half of a buy-one-take-one tickets were separated.
Ticket prices ranged from P780 for the lower balcony to Platinum seats up front at P3,850.
The Cebu City Council earlier granted tax exemption for the concert, then later revoked it when the controversy broke out over the CAIB’s complaint that the billboard images were “sexually suggestive”.
The City Council had earlier agreed to waive the tax if concert organizers donated P10,000 each to three beneficiary organizations including the Philippine Councilors League and the Cebu City Task Force on Street Children.
