An event during the wake of the patriarch of the Barretto clan, Miguel Barretto, has been getting mileage from media. Given public knowledge of the feud among the younger of the Barretto daughters, the presence of Gretchen Barretto at the wake was welcomed by many. The video posted by Claudine Barretto showed older sister hugging their mother and everyone thought things will be well. However, the story not shown in the video showed that the tension was strong and real, according to a source.
After President Rody Duterte came to the wake, Gretchen arrived. The President attempted to reconcile Gretchen and Marjorie. However, Marjorie politely declined. She told the President that she voted for him, but she could not give in to his request as the feud between her and Gretchen was too deep.
Everyone was calm and understood where Marjorie was coming from. Tension rose when Claudine allegedly entered the picture and called out Marjorie as disrespectful of the President. With accusations traded, the nephews and nieces joined in attempting to stop the argument. Niece Nicole, the daughter of brother JJ, accidentally pushed Gretchen and allegedly, in retaliation, Gretchen pulled and twisted her niece’s hair.
Finally, Marjorie’s son, Leon, raised his voice to make everyone stop and respect the wake of his grandfather, as the fight was happening in front of the coffin.

Actress Claudine Barretto was hospitalized Thursday night after she allegedly figured in a physical confrontation with her sister, Marjorie Barretto, at their father Miguel’s wake.
Claudine, the youngest of the Barretto siblings, is currently confined at St. Luke’s Medical Center in Bonifacio Global City.
Claudine sustained an injury on her hand and complained of dizziness following the alleged confrontation with Marjorie, according to Ruby Baguhin, who brought the actress to the hospital.
Baguhin, a staff member of another Barretto sibling, Gretchen, had accompanied Claudine at the wake at The Heritage Park in Taguig.
Baguhin alleged that Claudine was attacked by Marjorie. She also mentioned young actress Julia, Marjorie’s daughter, as being part of the confrontation.
Marjorie had earlier declined ABS-CBN News’ request to interview members of the family. She has yet to respond to a subsequent request for a statement, in light of her encounter with Gretchen the night prior.
The supposed altercation between Claudine and Marjorie came a day after Gretchen’s visit to the wake resulted in a scuffle involving other Barretto relatives.
Gretchen, who had long been estranged from her parents, sought to reconcile with her family, including mother Inday, she told ABS-CBN News in a statement.
“It was all so nice until Marjorie had a nervous breakdown,” she said, referring to the Wednesday incident.
She confirmed that President Rodrigo Duterte, who condoled with the family, “was asking Marjorie to shake my hand for the sake of respect of my father, but Marjorie was not happy that I was there to reunite with family.”
Claudine, who for a time was also estranged from Gretchen, has been a constant presence in the latter’s life after they reconciled early this year.
In April, the two made public their being left out of the wedding of Dani Barretto, one of the daughters of Marjorie. Claudine and Gretchen also criticized their niece for supposedly being ungrateful, after they helped raise her with Marjorie.
Gretchen’s feud with Marjorie escalated in August this year, when the eldest Barretto sided with “Team Bea” against Julia, in relation to a controversy involving the young actress and her fellow Star Magic artists.— With a report from Dexter Ganibe, ABS-CBN News

Samantha Lo, the Philippines’ representative to Miss Grand International, was unable to go to Venezuela, where the pageant will be held, due to issues involving her passport, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) has confirmed.
In a statement sent to ABS-CBN News on Friday, the DFA said it received reports that Lo “was unable to continue her journey to Caracas due to alleged issues with her passport.”
“Based on an ongoing investigation, the DFA confirms that Ms. Lo has no record in the DFA passport database and is continuing the process of ascertaining the facts of the case,” it added.
Early this week, pageant fans noticed Lo’s absence from pre-pageant activities in Caracas, prompting speculation as to whether she was still an official candidate.
On Wednesday, Venezuelan jeweler George Wittels, the pageant’s crown maker, said Lo was in transit to the South American country.
She, however, was unable to board her flight from Paris to Venezuela, Wittels told fans via Instagram.
Going by her most recent Instagram update, Lo had been expecting to join Miss Grand International without a hitch, as she posed with the Philippine flag in a photo captioned, “See you soon, Venezuela!” — With a report from Willard Cheng, ABS-CBN News

Among the known friendships that have seemed to last were forged when the now-celebrities were unknown people trying their luck in the industry. Hence, these best friends know each other’s struggles and successes. As they age, maturity follows and expectations of stronger friendships are common.
Nonetheless, these long-term friendships can be tested without warning and an innocent remark or photo can create cracks. When Female Friend 1 (FF1) expressed her opinion on a controversial issue, Female Friend 2 (FF2) felt slighted. Although the issue did not involve either FF1 or FF2 directly, the aftermath resulted in almost dumping the years they have spent building their friendship. FF1 and FF2 treat each like sisters and even share family secrets. Hence, when they allowed an incident to get in the way, many were disappointed.
FF2 was hurt when FF1 seemed to have taken a side that was different from hers. As she was feeling hurt, she did not call FF1 and she left text messages unanswered. When the two met at a common friend’s event, FF1 approached and attempted to kiss FF2. FF2 moved away, turned her back, and proceeded to her table while muttering words like ‘traitor and hypocrite.’
Before the host could serve the food, FF2 said her goodbye and said that she wanted to rest and not be stressed as the traitor was around. The host understood and allowed FF2 to leave. After a while, FF1 asked the host where FF2 was. The host replied that FF2 already left and asked FF1 what their conflict was about. FF1 was clueless.
When FF1 had the chance, she approached the friends who were seated with FF2. The friends said that FF2 was ignoring her for one major reason, that is, FF1 is a traitor as far as FF2 is concerned.
Later on, FF1 tried to reach out to FF2, but she only received nothing. FF2 continued to ignore her. Then, her fans informed her that FF2 had unfollowed her. Out of frustration, FF1 did a tit for tat and deleted FF2 from her list of followed personalities.
FF1’s predicament reached Her Advisor (HA), who immediately advised her to resolve the issue. After all, not making peace with FF2 can have repercussions on her career. Choosing sides on a celebrity issue is frowned upon by the public as well. Besides, the reality is that FF1’s projects have not been doing well and she does not have a regular show. Thus, the best recourse of FF1 is to get rid of pride and continue to reach out to FF2, as prolonging their conflict would be bad for her personally and professionally. After carefully reflecting on the words of HA, FF1 did what was right. Finally, FF2 gave FF1 a chance. FF1 apologized and things were resolved.

What began as an attempt to patch things up between feuding members of the showbiz Barretto clan ended in a confrontation and a scuffle at the wake of the family patriarch, Miguel.
The latest incident in the Barretto family saga took place on Wednesday during the visit of President Rodrigo Duterte, who counts actress Gretchen Barretto as a close supporter.
The President’s visit was also an occasion for Gretchen to visit the wake and reconcile with her mother Inday, with whom she has had an off-and-on feud.
Gretchen’s youngest sister, Claudine, posted about the family reunion on Instagram, where she expressed her admiration for her “Ate” with whom she reconciled only recently.
Gretchen remains at odds with another sister, Marjorie -- a former actress and a former councilor of Caloocan City. Recently, they had a public spat over a controversy involving Marjorie’s daughter, young actress Julia Barretto.
According to two sources who were present at the wake, the President urged Gretchen and Marjorie to “shake hands, just for tonight,” out of respect for their deceased father.
The sources said Gretchen tried to oblige the request, saying that she was “the older one after all.” However, they said, Marjorie refused and instead accused Gretchen of being “plastic, porke nandito ang President (just because the President is here).”
”Marjorie was obviously mainit (fuming), you can see it in her body language,” one source told ABS-CBN News. “Si Gretchen, kalmado lang (she was calm).”
While the President was talking to some members of the family, the sources said, a woman – later identified as one of the Barretto grandchildren – suddenly lunged at Gretchen who was in one corner talking to some friends. The source said the friends restrained Gretchen and prevented her from retaliating against her niece.
Just when they thought the worst was over, the source said, Gretchen suddenly grabbed her niece by the hair and a scuffle ensued. Members of the Presidential Security Group had to break up the fight.
An eyewitness said the niece suffered a cut on her face. Gretchen, meanwhile, reportedly apologized to the President for what happened at her father’s wake.
Asked how the President reacted to the events at the Barretto wake, one source said: “He was shocked. On the way (to the wake) he was briefed that not all is well with the Barretto family; but maybe he was not prepared to see such a display.”
In a statement to ABS-CBN News, Gretchen said, “It was all so nice until Marjorie had a nervous breakdown.”
