Same Situation, Different Reaction

Actors who have lasted for several years in the industry all have one thing in common, that is, they have survived all the curses, praises, anger, joy, and other emotions directed at them by their respective directors. Only those who have strong hearts have managed to stay long enough. Those who are onion-skinned surely would have opted for other careers.

When Skilled Actress (SA) was signed up for a project, much was expected from her, her co-stars, and the production. Judging on the publicity materials, the producers did not scrimp on the budget for their project. Hence, with such support from investors, the least the director could do is to bring out the best from all the stars. Here lies the problem. Although SA has worked with the best directors in her career, she seemed to be groping during the initial filming of the project.

In most of her scenes, SA had to act with a New Talent (NT), who started in the business only recently. NT, however, has been noticed for her acting skills and pleasant looks, which are reasons why she has various projects. Given that SA and NT have just recently become acquainted, they still could not achieve a certain chemistry required by the scenes. The instructions were clear, but the two could not get their act together. Predictably, the two got a mouthful from the head and were told to shape up.

SA and NT were subjected to the same words and actions, their reactions were opposite. SA allegedly threatened to back out, but NT took the sermon as a challenge to improve her craft. The reaction of SA did not surprise the people who heard it, as SA has a record of being difficult in some of her projects. Thus, the long break did not really change SA apparently.

As SA mulled the idea of backing out, someone whispered to her that in case she proceeds with her plans, she would be charged with the cost of the scenes she had done as well as the possibility of a breach of contract suit. Thus, her attitude would result in dire consequences that would harm her pocket and her reputation. If SA had quit, the possibility of getting a project given the tough competition nowadays would make it hard for her to get a new one. Any producer would opt for a talent who is younger, more talented, and more pleasant to work with compared with SA.

When SA learned that the possible charge was roughly a six-figure amount, she suddenly had a change of heart and just decided to take everything in stride. Besides, this project is meant for her and thus, she should be patient and give her best. Often, SA still thinks she still has the same influence eons ago when she was on top of her game.
