Fil-Am Malaya Watson in ‘Idol’ Top 10

The sixteen-year-old Watson from Southfield, Michigan was safe in Thursday night’s (Friday morning in Manila) elimination round that sent home Ben Briley, according to “Idol’s” Twitter account.
Watson, whose name means free in Filipino, received a standing ovation from the judges with her performance of the song “I Am Changing” from the Broadway play-turned-movie “Dreamgirls.”
On Broadway, the song was performed by the character Effie who realized she had to change for the better to have another shot in the music industry.
The song seemed fitting for Watson who has donned a new look, shedding the playful little girl’s image she had since she entered “Idol.”
Pop star and judge Jennifer Lopez gave her a standing ovation. “Yes! Yes! Good girl, Malaya! That’s a perfect song for you. A perfect way to end the show!” she said.
“That was a killer. You have an amazing voice, oh my God!” Lopez exclaimed.
Musician Keith Urban said Watson has a “good understanding of the songs that apply to your strength.”
“That song was perfect to play to your strength… What you’ve got inside there that’s going to blossom is magnificent,” Urban said.
Singer-actor Harry Connick Jr. even called Watson a “big-belter.”
“Over the course of this competition, your voice is going to get thicker and better, and it’s going to be a pleasure to watch. Nice job!” he added.
Watson will join the rest of the top 10 in the Idol’s summer tour.

JAG is this year’s gold sponsor of the prestigious annual beauty pageant, which selects the country’s most beautiful women as representatives for various international competitions.
Walking down the runway wearing the latest denim pieces from JAG’s Spring-Summer 2014 collection, each of the lovely candidates looked every bit a beauty queen while wearing acid-washed shorts, bleached denim vests and ankle cut jeans in different styles—colored, reversible, and acid-washed.
The excitement increased further when Miss Universe 2010 fourth runner-up Venus Raj in acid-washed jeans and the reigning Bb. Pilipinas beauty queens, all wearing JAG red ankle cut jeans, marched down the catwalk for the finale—Miss Universe 2013 third runner-up Ariella Arida, Miss International 2013 Bea Rose Santiago, Miss Supranational 2013 Mutya Johanna Datul and Miss Tourism Queen International 2013 finalist Cindy Miranda.
The event was just one in the line up of activities leading to the Binibining Pilipinas Grand Coronation Night on March 30.

Still Can’t Come To Her Senses

People who were once puzzled with FS had given her the benefit of the doubt in the beginning, saying that FS only needed time to process her thoughts and emotions, then everything would be okay. But looking at her demeanor then and now, nothing can be said that she has truly moved forward - FS’ actions speak volumes.
So it seems that the people’s good wishes for her then were all like wishful thinking. Those countless times that FS was overheard by colleagues and friends speaking ill of her perceived nemesis belie her previous pronouncements that she has completely forgotten and has moved on after that hurtful episode in her life.
FS had a fun get-together and night-out with friends recently. Conversations and topics varied, ranging from private to showbiz. Suddenly, someone asked FS if she knew about a new television series starring one of her former Closest Friends CF. FS seemed clueless in the beginning, but later answered in the affirmative.
When pressed further if she was aware of the role that CF would play in the series which is kind of flirty and amorous, FS quipped with gravy-thick sarcasm (translated to English) , “ Oh cool, she fits the role perfectly!”
