Not Again

The pandemic brought out the best among celebrities, who earned praises for their giving of help without asking for anything in return. Frontliners and ordinary citizens benefitted from such generosity. Even fellow co-workers in the industry were not left behind, as many do not have guaranteed contracts or are under a no-work, no-pay scheme. By contrast, certain celebrities have not really changed.
When the production team of a network called certain celebrities to give inspirational words for frontliners, they made sure Respected Celebrity (RC) was on the list. As soon as RC answered the call, The Staff (TS) was shocked as the first question RC asked was about talent fee, but then, she asked how she can have the video taken, as she’s not so into technology. TS then taught RC how to use Viber or E-mail to send the video. TS even sent the details to RC and informed her that the network can send someone, who’ll be in protective gear, to her home for the video if she prefers it that way.
However, RC repeated her question on the talent fee. TS said that the video was free, as the outcome will not be for commercial purposes and the goal is to uplift the spirit of the frontliners. TS sensed that RC seemed to have lost interest. Then, TS said that RC would be given the last frame to show her importance. However, RC said that billing does not concern her, as an appearance fee is more important for her.
RC was pushing for a talent fee as she has been out of work since the pandemic started and none of the producers bothered to see how she was doing. Besides, she learned that her colleagues from the other station were compensated by their management even if they haven’t resumed work. RC continued that she thought the call was for the management to ask how she was doing. Moreover, instead of the management helping her out financially, she was asked to do work for free. TS could not react at first, but informed RC that her sentiments would be sent to the bosses, who could consider giving her a corresponding fee. Finally, RC said that she would just create and send the video to the network.
After a few days, RC had not sent any video and the network decided to pursue the project without her. The production team opted for the talents who would rather do the video for free than RC who expects to be paid to participate for a worthy cause.
