Shocking Conversation

During the taping of a series, the production staff observed that Lead Actor (LA) was not in his element. After many years of doing various roles in movies and television projects, LA honed his acting skills and even garnered praises for his improvement. This time, LA could only deliver an average performance, which was missing the emotional grit that could further strengthen his character. Lucky for LA, his co-actors were there for him to make sure the scenes would not be flat. Such could not go on, as LA needed to deliver.

That day, the scenes to be taped required high emotions and therefore, the production staff was concerned over LA, given that he was not giving the depth the challenging scenes needed. While on break, LA left the set. Taking the break as cue, One Head (OH) decided to look for LA so they can rehearse a crucial scene.

OH moved from room to room and as he was about to check one door, he overheard LA talking to someone over the phone. LA sounded angry and the conversation, at least on his end, was intense. The tone sounded like LA was fuming at the other person and LA was calling it quits (‘We are done, bro. Don’t you ever try to call me again. It’s over, bro.’) Hearing the word “bro” made OH curious and he continued eavesdropping. The next set of words shocked him. This time, LA was accusing the other person as a liar and something graver than lying (‘You lied to me! You did not tell me you were sick! You infected me!’).

The word ‘infected’ rang in the ears of OH. OH, however, was clueless as to what that alleged infection might be referring to, but nonetheless, LA caught it. OH then feared for the intimate scenes LA was supposed to have with an actress, which were later discarded after OH overheard LA.

After a few minutes, LA returned to the set, shaking. He seemed distraught and angry. OH made him relax prior to the take. As soon as the cameras rolled, OH was amused as LA delivered the appropriate emotions and he only needed one take. As OH did not want to pry into LA’s business, the identity of ‘Bro’ lingers in his head.

‘There is a shock that comes so quickly and strikes so deep that the blow is internalised even before then skin feels it. The strike must first reach bone marrow, then ascend slowly to the brain where the slowpoke intellect records the deed.’― Maya Angelou
