One of the observations that is hounding Promising Actor (PA) is that he seems to be taking his career for granted. Among the latest batch of a network’s talent pool, PA immediately stood above the rest with his looks and his talents. PA was immediately given big breaks in major projects, and such opportunities would be a lifetime’s wait for others. PA delivered and the network saw his potential into becoming a great actor.
However, the recent behavior of PA seems to be showing that, this early, he’s already getting into vices that could affect his career and image. For instance, PA showed up for his taping as though he came from an all-night drinking spree. He looked tired and was unkempt when he showed up. The look was in contrast to his role of a highly educated and elite man. Thus, he had to be told to freshen up before facing the camera.
Unknown to him, his co-stars with whom he would have most interactions, have been talking behind his back. Because he seemed to have low regard for hygiene, his co-stars could smell him and they could not say anything. His co-stars feel that once they talk to him to brush his teeth, use mouthwash, and spray on deodorant or cologne before the take, they might be called as picky and stagey. Worse, despite his experience in the production, the stylists are suffering headaches because he does not even bring enough wardrobe for his scenes. It’s not like his playing a minor role in project, as his character is crucial to the flow of the story.
The only consolation the production team has and probably the reason why he’s still in the project is his talent. He delivers the right emotions and knows what the scene calls for. His acting is so good that he can sometimes overshadow the leads. Thus, with his acting, scenes can be shot smoothly despite the frustration he can sometimes cause behind the scenes with his non-regard for a well-kept appearance.
‘Man does not live by soap alone; and hygiene, or even health, is not much good unless you can take a healthy view of it or, better still, feel a healthy indifference to it.’ -- Gilbert K. Chesterton
