A Game of Ratings

Much has been said about the expectations for a Key Project (KP) of a network. From the concept down to the cast, KP presents a well-thought out plan and monumental ambition. Thus, even before KP was aired, high hopes were pinned on the said project.
However, projects get the axe whenever management sees poor performance in terms of ratings and commercial load. KP, unfortunately, is suffering with the former. Regardless of the effort of the production team, KP is lagging way behind the top-rating show for the similar timeslot. The goal at present is to, at the very least, close the gap in the ratings. For the past months, KP has been unable to do such, which has gotten the management worried.
As KP continues to be on air with way below performance, the costs are rising as well. Despite suggestions on attracting viewership, most are expensive. For instance, a cross-over with a previous popular show was recommended. However, such move would add further costs and has no guarantee that the ratings would improve.
The blame game started in the analysis of the disappointing performance of KP. One speculated that the Cute Lead (CL) might have already lost his charm and is unable to attract the audience. Another insisted that Popular Celebrity (PC) should have been in the cast. After all, CL and PC have always commanded a good following. Nonetheless, the production team could not pursue the PC angle given that the management will not like the idea. Sadly, the production team has been instructed to act immediately or else KP will have to be pulled out due to poor ratings.
