Insolent Values

Fans are wondering why Adept Actor (AA) seems to be taking a hiatus from his home network. After successful projects on television and in the cinema, AA seems to be absent from the roll of celebrities with projects in his station. Usually, stars in his network are always in projects one after the other. Perhaps, this keeping of AA away from the public eye can make his return more anticipated.

Nonetheless, AA might be an example of someone who has the good looks but has undesirable attitude. AA is allegedly quite unprofessional in his work. His attitude has not escaped the eyes of his coworkers. For instance, AA would come late to his commitments, and as everyone knows, every second is valuable during taping. Thus, any actor who comes late, can affect the workflow. However, AA is a star, and thus, has an attitude that everyone should wait for him.

In addition, AA has been observed to be making demands that make him exude to everyone that he is an important personality. Looking back at his acting history, only when his present network decided to gamble on him that he managed to make a comeback. As his project was an unexpected hit among women, AA became hot property.

With his attitude, people are worried that he might soon lose projects. In his network are actors who are more competent and easier to work with. Management can always prefer them over him, and if that happens, he might have a hard time coming back.

‘Nothing can stop the man with the right mental attitude from achieving his goal; nothing on earth can help the man with the wrong mental attitude.’ - Thomas Jefferson

List of Nominees for 2nd Eddys Awards for Movies

Four relative newcomers and a lady filmmaker who has announced her intention to retire will battle it out for the best director plum in the 2nd Eddys for Movies of The Society of Philippine Entertainment Editors (SPEEd).

First-time directors Alberto Monteras II ("Respeto") and Julius Alfonso ("Deadma Walking"), 26-year-old Mikhail Red ("Birdshot"), 34-year-old Raya Martin ("Smaller And Smaller Circles") are up against consistent hitmaker Cathy Garcia-Molina ("Unexpectedly Yours") in the heavily contested category of the annual awards derby.

Their five works are vying for The Eddys’ Film of the Year trophy.

In the best actress race, Megastar Sharon Cuneta ("Unexpectedly Yours") is pitted against stage stalwart Joanna Ampil ("Ang Larawan"), international award-winning actress Alessandra de Rossi ("Kita Kita"), writer-actress Bela Padilla ("100 Tula"), and Mary Joy Apostol ("Birdshot").

The David and Goliath theme continues in the best actor race as established names Aga Muhlach ("Seven Sundays") and Ronaldo Valdez ("Seven Sundays") go up against Joshua Garcia ("Love You To The Stars And Back") Edgar Allan Guzman ("Deadma Walking") and rapper Abra ("Respeto").

There will be three special awards: the Joe Quirino Award will be given to the late movie reviewer and professor Mario Hernando (Posthumous Award), the Manny Pichel Award will be handed to entertainment editor and columnist Ricky Lo, and Producer of the Year will go to Vic del Rosario, Jr. of Viva Films.

A special tribute will be given to Hernando, directors Mario J. delos Reyes, Soxy Topacio, Maning Borlaza, Argel Joseph, actress Isabel Granada and award-winning actor Bernardo Bernardo.

Organized by SPEEd, the Eddys aims to encourage local filmmakers, producers, writers, and actors to continue pursuing their passion of creating films that mirror the realities of our society. It is slated to happen in the middle of the year.
