Insta Scoop: Angeli Valenciano Disgusted at the Treatment of Filipino Models​, Including Kiana,​ During LA Fashion Week​ Show​

“This is just going to make us tougher. What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger.” - my daughter Kiana on not being allowed to walk on the LA FASHION WEEK opening show. Former Miss Earth Jamie Herrell and Kiana together with 5 Filipino models (some of who had previously walked on the ramp for Fashion Week) were not being allowed to walk of the ramp for LA FASHION WEEK. “No Filipinos allowed to walk on the ramp!” We want to ask WHY? It was bad enough that you didn’t want to allow the girls but was there a need to publicly humiliate them? And there were only three designers on that 9pm slot. And two were Filipino - Rocky Gathercole and Resty Lagare. Filipino models could not walk for the Filipino designers? This lady chose a sewing machine over more expensive, material presents as a must-have-gift as a teenager. To rob her of a dream-come-true opportunity was not nice at all. Guarding Her Essentials

Viewers of soaps would be familiar with usual rags to riches stories and locations usually used to depict poverty and wealth. As most stories of teleseryes deal with problems of the lower class, there are inevitable scenes. For example, other than living in a simple home, characters are seen buying from the sari-sari store or eating at the carinderia.  

Usually, actors who have agreed to play poor characters know that sooner or later, they will have scenes showing them walking in the midst of unpaved, muddy roads and heaps of trash. If the scene could be done in one take, then lucky for the actor. The other favorite scene is eating in the carinderia in the location. Sometimes, flies would definitely be flying around.

When Local Actress (LA) committed to playing the poor female role in one of her projects, she should have already anticipated that to make the plot believable and connect with the audience, she has to be convincing in the role. The scene called for LA to eat in a carinderia while on location. Before the scene could have a take one, LA started her own scene. She expressed fear that the food she might get served from the carinderia might be contaminated. This attitude irked the crew, as they have surveyed the area. LA was giving them the attitude that the dirty surroundings of the location might lead to her death. So, the crew bought food from a restaurant and faked the scene just so LA would be at peace and work can proceed.

Afterwards, the production started talking about the way LA behaved and they could not believe that for someone who was not born with a silver spoon in her mouth, LA could be so picky. As they said, with her fame and apparently being a network favorite, LA is drowning in a glass of water. Of course, the production team has to give in to the wishes of LA, as their project is highly dependent on her.
