This is a tough piece for me to write because Cesar Montano has been my best friend for many years now. I am already an adopted sister of his Manhilot (Cesar’s real surname) clan. So when Buboy (Cesar’s nickname) is embroiled in a controversy, I am appalled by how things can be blown out of proportion, since I know the story behind the story.

Diego’s claims

His son (with Teresa Loyzaga) Diego has gone “Buboy bashing” on social media. He insists that his dad kicked him out of his house (on Scout Rallos, which used to be where Buboy, his ex-wife Sunshine Cruz and their three daughters lived and was later converted into Bellisimo Restaurant).

Diego also claims that Buboy called him a drug addict and would have him picked up by the police.

Buboy has his faults and shortcomings as a father but he has his redeeming qualities. I remember when Buboy granted Diego’s request to buy him a car. If Buboy had his way, Diego would have finished his studies before joining show biz. But he gave in to his son’s plea to become an actor just like him. When Diego figured in a bar brawl at The Fort last year, Buboy immediately came to his son’s defense.

Cesar’s reaction

When the controversy broke out, Buboy called me up. I am not at liberty to divulge everything we talked about.

Suffice it to say that no matter what Diego wants to believe, his dad is just concerned and worried about him.

“Even if my late dad never pampered me and didn’t buy me material gifts because we were poor, I am still thankful to him,” Buboy sighed.

He added: “I never lambasted him for the tough life we had. Our struggles made me learn the value of hard work.”

Buboy said that when he reprimanded Diego, they were not on the same wavelength. Apparently, his son did not get Buboy’s drift.

A father is a father, is a father. Hopefully someday, when Diego becomes a dad, he will understand where Buboy is coming from. Children have to learn that love from parents is not always a “Yes.”

As the Pinoy saying goes “Ang anak matitiis ang magulang, pero ang magulang hindi kayang tiisin ang anak.” I should know. I’ve been there.

It is my only hope that the next time Buboy and Diego argue, it will be about who loves the other more.

Committing to His Comfort Zone

When Influential Insider (II) saw Mature Discovery (MD), she immediately fell for his looks, charms, and possibilities. Thus, in a subtle manner, II took MD under her wing. Her influence seemed to be shaping the status of MD in their network. However, while MD has the talent and the looks, age, unfortunately, prevents him from assuming cute roles, which are definitely attractive to fans. Despite this issue, MD has more projects than his contemporaries.

As showbiz is a cruel industry, talents are discarded every so often for various reasons. One candidate for such matter was MD. Another Powerful Personality (PP) of the network delivered the painful blow that MD would have to move on once new talents are discovered. MD apparently does not connect with the target audience. When II found out, she personally took matters to show that MD was not just going to fade into oblivion.

Using her resources, II produced a show for MD to prove that he has the talent and the looks that could attract a sufficient number of fans to ensure his popularity. Not only was the concert scheduled, promotions were also included in the plan. The lineup of guest was impressive as well. Obviously, the concert was deemed successful, with MD giving his all in his musical numbers. II proved her point that MD is not a flash in the pan.

While everything seemed fine and she could finally concentrate on juggling her work, MD, and family obligations, II learns from MD that a gay group wants to bring him abroad for a series of shows. At this point, flashes of the background of MD started to play in the mind of II. The possibility of losing her toy boy seems unthinkable.

As II knows that a main motivation is money, she thought of ways to make sure MD stays in her fold. II knows the workings of the industry and has seen many talents come and go, fail and succeed, and she could not allow MD to just be lost. Using her influence, she made sure that MD would not be able to leave the network. She assured him of consistent work, which would ensure his financial future. However, an unspoken motivation why II wants to keep MD within her reach is to make sure that he will not lapse into revealing their connection. Blackmail could be too costly, and the only way to prevent such is to make MD happy.
