Is Owen Wilson the latest international celebrity to be smitten by a Filipina?

Hollywood actor Owen Wilson, star of such hits as “Zoolander” and “Night at the Museum,” arrived last Friday morning in Manila, sans entourage, where he was picked up at the airport by a hotel car and was quite polite in responding to reporters, saying “We’re just visiting.”

The buzz, however, is that he’s casually dating Wendy Puyat, accessories designer, who was  previously married to a Hong Kong-based scion.

Wilson and Puyat were introduced by a mutual Filipino friend.

Wilson was also spotted last Friday swimming at Manila Polo Club.

Regardless of talent, celebrity behavior behind cameras is often more interesting than the actual performance he/she does on stage or in front of the cameras. More often, people are curious as to how celebrities show their human side. Unfortunately, given that showbusiness is an image-oriented industry, a celebrity is expected to behave according to norms. If a celebrity is loved for her pretty face, expect a tirade from critics once the former is caught in bad behavior, such as disrespecting persons or simply screaming out of disgust. Once documented, the celebrity will have to do much damage control because a pretty face should not have a rotten heart, as far as the business is concerned.

Nonetheless, another behavior that will raise an eyebrow or two is the honesty that goes with exploring one’s gender preference, particularly for young talents. At awkward stages of growing up, some young talents are immediately stereotyped if they behave contrary to what is expected for their gender. Thus, when a boy is seen to be soft and effeminate, labels of being gay will be thrown at him. Of course, his camp will have to do a bit of damage control to protect the ward from whether such perception is true or not.

The problem comes when the talent displays questionable behavior. Take the incident of Talented Performer (TP), who happens to be popular and has a strong fan base. Over the years he has been in the entertainment industry, TP has been admired for his flawless performance and each time he goes on stage, he convinces the audience that he has the talent to strengthen his position in the business. TP has an edge over his contemporaries because he is versatile and the audience is aware of his passion for his craft.

While waiting for his turn in a show, TP suddenly got distracted at the appearance of a Newbie Network Discovery (NN). Having inherited the best genes from his lineage, NN looks attractive and given a few more years, will become a heartthrob. Pretending to be playing games, TP would occasionally glance at NN’s direction and would make small talk. Unfortunately, someone from the production quietly caught TP taking stolen shots of NN. Instead of making a fuss, the staff merely smiled at TP, but that reaction was enough to make TP blush and awkwardness reverberated in the room.

During the guesting, the host could not at all do any teasing, or else, the show might get a memo from management as well as the regulations board. Thus, everything went smoothly with NN not having any idea. After their appearance, TP approached NN, asked for his number, and told him that if he needed a coach for performing, he would be very willing to help. TP has, after all, the credibility to volunteer teaching NN, as he does walk his talk. So, now, TP would text NN and his handler to make sure the bond would continue. It seems that someone was struck by love at first sight.
