To be truly a member of the circle, one must be active in tasks that are associated with the status. For instance, clothes should be designed by the current favorite in the fashion scene, luxury bags should be of a particular brand and design, and only the best should be hired for certain activities.
One of the most elusive mark that one is made is to hire the services of a famous and competent expert (CE). To prove that CE is the most sought after, even members of the certified elite have to fall in line to avail of CE’s services. In other words, one’s social status is not a guarantee that CE will positively respond.
Nothing will stop SA from gaining the favor from CE and thus, she used her contacts to arrange a meeting with CE. SA was welcomed in the home of CE, but CE was not there and it was A Relative (AR) who entertained SA. The talk was successful and SA seemed to have impressed AR. However, talk was not as important as non-verbal responses.
As SA exchanged pleasantries with AR, refreshments were served. Various baked goods were served to SA, but her actions were disappointing. SA did not even bother to touch any of the food that was in front of her. Unknown to SA, AR is a baker and naturally, AR was offended when SA refused to even take a nibble. Then, AR reported the incident to CE, who felt offended as well. It came to the point that CE decided to add SA in his banned list. Thus, SA can wait all her life, but definitely, she will never be featured in any future work of CE.
While SA might be doing as the ‘Romans do in Rome,’ she might have forgotten that to truly blend in, she has to be more mindful of the ‘Romans.’
