The cost of making a movie depends on the projected budget of producers. While some producers make movies for the profit, others make movies simply for the love of it. However, smaller sectors dabble in film production for their own noble purpose, as they have a story that they want a wider audience to know. The theme of such movies often border on unpopular themes that, for most insiders, will not bring in expected profit.
When a group wanted to make a monumental movie as part of their celebration, they approached an Award Winning director (AW). AW who has been in the business for a long time had an inkling of the possible challenges he might encounter as the task was easier said than done. Thus, AW was given an advance of at least a seven-digit figure to start the ball rolling. The cast was announced and the list of actors was overwhelming. The group wanted only the best, and it seemed they were going to get it.
Unfortunately, circumstances that were beyond their control made it impossible to proceed as scheduled. Worse, AW dropped out of the project with nothing to show and opted to keep the cash. The group was at a dead-end as the deadline was coming. Being new at film production, the group approached Actor Director (AD).
AD has proven he can act, direct, and produce, which made him seem to be the logical choice. AD then presented his idea of shooting in another country so that the scenes will be as close to the time period. Thus, the group shelled out more than five million to AD and they only got a teaser video from AD. While the deal seems to be clearer, the catch was AD was asking for a horrendous nine-figure budget in exchange of the finished product. Although the group could easily raise that money, the amount was still excessive and the group was uncomfortable with the idea.
Finally, the group contacted Another Film Director (FD), who has directed commercial and non-commercial films. FD has extensive knowledge and contacts in the industry. His versatility is seen in his capability to direct films and teleseryes. Having been involved in monumental projects as well as non-box office hits, FD knew the ins and outs of the industry. Was FD the one answer to the group?
Instead of taking advantage of the group the way AW and AD allegedly seemed to do, FD advised the group to partner with an established film producer. Thus, after negotiations, script revisions, and a final casting call, the group was seeing their epic come into reality.
