Subtlety Getting Back at Him

Was this a case of tit for tat? When Prominent Performer (PP) found out that her Actor Boyfriend (AB) cheated, she took a break from him and hooked up with Handsome Hunk (HH).

While celebrities seem to have an image of infallibility and their relationships seem to be meant to last, the reality is that all of them have feet of clay. They are ordinary humans who are capable of making mistakes and engaging in misdemeanor as well. The big difference is that celebrities have an image that they have to keep, and that is to be perfect or ideal to their fans. Networks are well aware that Filipino fans hold their idols in high esteem and believe them to be role models. If that image is tarnished, the risk is too great that the celebrity will lose his/her following and endorsements.

PP and AB have been a couple for some time now and have been under constant speculation as to when they will tie the knot. The pressure increased when fellow celebrity couples tied the knot. When pressed as to when they will have their wedding, PP and AB have been evasive as to their plans, but both are always reassuring that they would want to be with each other. However, rumors started to spread that something was amiss with PP and AB, as their presence seemed to be missing from each other’s social media accounts.

Well, there was indeed trouble because PP found out that AB had a one-night stand. PP discovered about the indiscretion herself when she was tinkering with the mobile of AB. Thus, PP decided to cool off with AB. Allegedly, this action of AB is not the first, and PP has had enough. What was sad about this incident is that AB was preparing to propose to PP.

When the network found out that PP and AB were on the verge of splitting up, the higher ups stepped in. The split up might affect their image and the cost of negative reactions from fans and endorsements was too high. PP and AB were requested to fix their relationship. To avoid further talk based on them not doing their usual activities together, they were sent to appear in various shows and to look as if everything was okay. Although they were together, hardly did they post photos of being together. Photos showing them together were uploaded by fans or other colleagues who were in the same shows.

As both PP and AB have upcoming projects, they are now under pressure to keep the image that everything is perfect. Accordingly, they are resorting to ideas that they are merely undergoing the same issues all couples go through and not being seen together is not a sign that they are no longer a couple. The alleged brewing relationship between PP and HH will be denied or ignored to protect the image of PP and AB. Thus, to save their careers, PP and AB have to sacrifice the truth and continue pretending.
