Such Mesmerized Look

Versatile Performer (VP) and Erratic Actress (EA) were scheduled to guest on a weekly talk show to promote their project. For VP, this project is just but one of the series of her movies being shown in the next weeks. However, for EA this project is one that could reignite whatever is left of her career. Thus, VP gamely matched wits with EA and even coined a special tag inspired by EA.

Their guesting included performing the opening for the show. However, two hours before they were on air, EA arrived and allegedly seemed to be wasted. Her mind was wandering off and at certain times, she was not talking at all. Seeing that EA might become unpredictable when they go on with the show, the production cancelled their opening number. So, the host just settled to have an interview with VP and EA.

During the show, several viewers noticed that EA was not in her usual element. She was giving funny answers that seemed off. Some noticed that she kept her mouth agape, which could be a sign of amazement or a sign of not being attuned to what was happening. Of course, VP and the host had to make sure their spiels were able to keep the energy going.

Why was EA not in her element that night? Could she no longer kick her old habit? In a few months, EA will soon have another movie. The industry has been kind to her despite her misbehaviors. The least EA could do is try to shape up and bring back that old magic that endeared her to the public ever since she was a child star.

Actress Angel Locsin will once again wear the costume of Filipina superhero Darna -- but this time on the big screen.

This was confirmed by Star Cinema managing director Malou Santos in an interview with the Manila Bulletin, which was published in its website on Sunday.

Santos’ confirmation finally put an end to speculations as to who will play the Pinay superhero after ABS-CBN had acquired exclusive rights to the Mars Ravelo creation.

“For Darna, we’re already done with the story of her past. We’re already brainstorming. We’re targeting next year for filming. So tuloy-tuloy na ‘yun,” she said in the interview.

Santos said it is Star Cinema’s goal to showcase special effects to offer something new to the viewers.

“Sa ngayon, I think the best production outfit na may ganung kapasidad is Reality. That is why we have a partnership with them. In fact, when we bought the Mars Ravelo stories, gusto namin isa-pelikula ang Darna kung sino si Darna sa panahon ngayon. Definitely, the effects will be different from the past Darna movies,” she said.

In a previous interview, Locsin said she would love to portray Darna again if ever the ABS-CBN management gives her the opportunity.

Locsin said Darna has already become part of her and it would delight her to give life to the character again.

“Ako kasi si Darna, feeling ko talaga eh. Kahit hindi ibigay ulit sa akin ang bato, part na siya ng pagkatao ko. 'Yung magkaroon ako ng opportunity at nagawa ko naman nang maayos 'yung duty ko bilang si Darna, malaking bagay na 'yun sa akin. Pero kung magbabalik ako, okay lang,” she said at the time.

Locsin has already played Darna on television in 2005. The most recent TV incarnation of Darna is actress Marian Rivera, who appeared in a 2009 series by GMA-7.

‘Magic Temple’ movie

Aside from the film adaptation of “Darna,” Santos revealed that Star Cinema is also planning to do a remake of the 1996 film “Magic Temple,” which will be headlined by Daniel Padilla and Kathryn Bernardo.

“Bagong special effects din ang gagawin. In fact, we’re thinking of doing a franchise of ‘Magic Temple’ na limang pelikula. Kapag may ‘Magic Temple,’ magkakaroon ng ‘Magic City,’ etc. So five stories na tuloy-tuloy,” she said.

“The first draft of the script of 'Magic Temple' already arrived,” she added.

Also released by Star Cinema in 1996, the fantasy-adventure film originally starred then-child stars Marc Solis, Anna Larrucea and Carlo Aquino among others.
