Thank you, Secretary Jesse Robredo for your Great Service to the Filipino Nation

A sudden loss, a life so fragile. He was the kind of man people would be proud to be. In the midst of such a loss, we are beset by things that are often so hard to understand - that good people like him have to be the first to go. Sec. Jesse Robredo was the first Filipino government leader who was a recipient of the Ramon Magsaysay Award.

His brief stint as DILG secretary gave the Filipinos a benchmark what genuine public service is all about. To his dying days, he was the Filipino servant first, and ideal family man, second. Great men like him will be long remembered.

Our deepest condolences to his family and those of his companions' families -- Capt. Jessup Bahinting and co-pilot KShitiz Chand, who perished with him. Prayers are therefore enjoined for their souls to be where they rightfully belong -- in God's loving kindness. Amen.

Reneging on Her Reward?

When an actor/actress promises something to a fan, expectations are high that the promise is delivered. For example, actress host 1 (AH1) gave one of her social network followers an I4S. AH1 happens to be very active in social networking, and despite her controversial choices in relationships, she seems to care for her fans and followers. Hardly has AH1 been known to use Twitter to get back at unsavory comments from other users.

However, actress host 2 (AH2), who is younger but more controversial than AH1, seems to be reneging on her promise to a fan. AH2 is also active on her social networking account and has a huge number of followers. One time, she asked her followers who owned a particular account name that she wanted to use for her photo sharing. The said account name is actually quite close to the account name AH2 uses in her social networking account.

To entice the owner to come out and relegate the account name, AH2 promised to give a high-end brand mobile. Soon, the owner contacted AH2 and gave her the details of the account she wanted. Then, the waiting for the promised mobile began. The fan waited. Then, she updated her status by saying that she still has not received the promised phone. The fan even asked someone close to AH2, who gave his assurance that AH2 will give the phone.

Hopefully, AH2 will not break her promise to the fan. AH2, however, must act fast because as days pass, her other followers might be wondering if she kept her word. She also needs all the positive publicity she can get if she wants to regain her footing in the industry. For artists who earn much, a mobile is worth nothing compared to the repercussions of disappointing a fan in the eyes of virtual followers.

No More Burden

Sometime ago, a popular band (PB) created a stir when rumors flew about its impending disbandment. Fans could not believe the rumor as the band was one of the most successful ever in the rock scene. The members of the band all came from other groups that had earlier disbanded. Hence, fans thought PB would never suffer the same fate. The disbandment came quickly and its legions of fans were in shock for a time until it was officially confirmed that the members had indeed gone separate ways.

What gives? Was it too much fame? Was it money? Was it women? Until the very end, no one admitted nor confirmed the reason why the lead singer (LS) just decided to call it quits. LS himself has an interesting history in the music scene. He was originally the lead singer of another band and for a time, he quit and disappeared from the scene. As to why LS initially disappeared, well, he was young and fame and temptation were all around him. Rumors had it that he had to “clean up his act.” He then resurrected his career and became more popular with PB. His songs became more meaningful, and he his performance had soul that made his fans love him more.

This time, LS is too passionate and dedicated with performing that nothing can no longer stand in the way of his career. When he was yet with the PB, he got too tired of the lack of discipline of his fellow members. One member (OM) would bring his groupie to the gigs of the band. Even while they had engagements, OM would disappear and hide in the comfort room to take a hit. There were times when the others were obviously high on something. On the other hand, no one could sway LS to the darker side of rock. Eventually, LS could no longer restrain his band mates, he called it quits and dropped them. LS walked away cleanly and went solo. Now, he enjoys as much fame and no longer has the burden of worrying over band mates who seems to be misdirected. LS has found his niche and he wants to keep it that way.

Enjoining Everyone for Prayers For DILG Secretary Jesse Robredo and Company

Let us all pray for the safe recovery of Interior and Local Government Secretary Jesse Robredo and his companions, including the two pilots of the small aircraft that carried him from Cebu on the way home to Naga. It crashed in the sea of Masbate province afternoon of Saturday. Earlier it was reported that the plane was having some engine problems, but Sec. Robredo and his team proceeded just the same for a meeting in Cebu.

His aide Don Abrasado survived. But Robredo is still nowhere to be found along with the two pilots of the four-seater plane.

Professional divers are doing the rescue, but are being hampered as darkness set in.

Before 8pm, talks circulated that Robredo was rescued by a fisherman, such that family and friends were in jubilation, only to be doused soon after when it was confirmed that it was just a rumor.

Prayer vigils are now being held in La Salle, Greenhills and at the residence of Sec. Robredo in Naga City.

President Benigno Aquino enjoins everyone to offer prayers for the missing Secretary and his companions, including prayers for their respective families for this extremely sad and unfortunate circumstance.

Model Turns Jerk in a Bar

This male model (MM) gained some popularity by getting involved with an actress politician (AP). Factors such as age, interests, careers, among others did not stop AP and MM from getting married. However, the marriage ended quite soon, and both found themselves moving separate ways. Rumors centered on how AP and MM could not get along well, and that their character traits might have played a major role in the break up. As time passed, MM pursued a career in food, and eventually slowly disassociated his name from AP.

Although he might not be active in showbiz, MM is still easily recognizable because he has maintained his model looks and physique. And because he does look familiar, his actions do not go unnoticed. In fact, customers at a bar experienced his boorish behavior. Since the place was crowded, customers were already standing and moving was a bit difficult. Then, while making his way, MM spilled wine at a young customer, who politely replied, “dahandahan lang po.”

Suddenly, MM was piqued, turned to the young customer, and confronted him. MM asked what the young customer wanted, and intentionally spilled more wine on the shocked customer. A companion of the customer held him on the arm to prevent further confrontation. The companion even asked MM to stop. However, MM did not stop even if a bouncer was already holding him. MM continued to finger point at the forehead of the young customer. This made the companion angry because her young friend was helpless. She wanted to retort, but another bouncer prevented her and said that MM was the bar’s model.

The question that came to their minds was that just because MM was an endorser, he could get away with his rudeness. It is a pity that behind his good looks MM has a monster personality.

Just Visiting or Living in the Same Place?

Since the beginning of his career, the relationships of popular performer (PP) have always been under public scrutiny. Not only is PP good-looking, he is also known to be a lady's man. He is charming and has a penchant for younger women. Except for two or three publicized relationships, PP ended up having at least one child with each of the former women in his life. Most of his partners are in the showbiz circle as well.

His current relationship with young actress (YA) is the most controversial one. Some of his family members and fans are not comfortable with the idea that PP and YA are having an affair. YA is not new to intrigues. She was at the peak of her popularity when she moved to another station, where she met and became very close to PP. The relationships of YA are also as loud as PP’s past. YA was linked to actors and public figures, and was even branded a user by someone very close to PP.

While PP and YA are keeping a low profile, their presence cannot be ignored. Both are frequent clients of a resort north of Manila. The staff got so used to seeing them together, and was no longer starstruck at their presence. However, their absence from the resort for a time became noticeable. Some thought that something might be wrong in their relationship but seeing them together on television often banished doubts that PP and YA were no longer together.

In a plush village in the same province, the neighbors were fascinated by the size of a newly-built house. The house is bigger than the typical size of the other houses in the area. Soon, they learned that the owner of the house would be moving in soon. A few days later, a familiar car was parked in front of the house. The same car was used to be seen often parked in the resort. Yes, it was the car of PP. Then, someone saw that YA was a regular in the house as well.

Is the house a sign that PP has already settled down with YA despite the pronouncements of his family earlier? Perhaps PP met his match in YA, while YA saw in PP the needed older figure to put balance in her young life.
